Our Story:
We are six years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our journey!

Takes longer and costs more than planned. That is always the way! Driveway is looking good!
It's the PG way....unfortunately.
Brad you did an excellent job on the driveway project!
So, now that your parents are all moved into their new home on your homestead, I hope they are happy with their move.
It's great that your parents can now enjoy all the projects You and Deb are doing.
Enjoy your Spring!
GOD Bless You All
Thanks for watching and commenting. We've just about got them all set.
Your parents appreciate that, and more likely saw you at times doing it, enjoyed it and took pride on it.
You did a very good job. I appreciate you taking us along and also share what it cost you.
Have a nice weekend Brad and Deb.
Thanks Carmen. Nothing is cheap nowadays, is it?
@@PineyGroveHomestead That's right, it's not cheap anymore.
good job on this.
I do my own driveway maintenance, and I am a novice too, but I am learning. You did every step I do and did it well.
Thanks for watching. It has had a few rains since then and setup really good.
If you raise the front of the grader box then you can grad from inside the box and you can see what is happening. What you did looks very nice. I was just sugjesting what I have done for many decades.
You are not wrong! I had it in more of a cutting angle that I should have.
Thank you... Looks great. The ties are smart.
You did a awesome job!!! It looks great!!!!
Thank you. I was a little stressed working with limestone gravel for the first time, but it came out great and has been several big rains without issue!
@@PineyGroveHomestead that's good. I hope y'all did ok with the big storm y'all had.
Hey just bought a small parcel of land in Oklahoma and am starting a gravel driveway in April. Your video is helpful and definitely taught me a few things so thank you. Ps throughout the video your leveling skills improved from where you started to where you stopped.
It's all a learning process! Here's the front of the building: ruclips.net/video/ukDdhCxLVzE/видео.html
I am from Oklahoma too..
For this being your first time, dang good job, sir.
Thanks! More videos here: ruclips.net/p/PLG5yS75HLzo3RVqEuA0f6IioXV6FtFhHW
I'm no pro with grading either... I mostly do it with a bucket on my tractor, and use my grapple teeth if I want to chew up some potholes or ruts. I think it looks like you did a great job! I find the more times I go over something (and with the longest passes possible) the smoother job I do.... I would never expect someone to go over the rock once and have it perfect!! Great series of videos. Congrats on the nice driveway! Enjoy it!
Like anything, you need to develop muscle memory over time, right?! Thanks for watching.
Absolutely love your channel, great content, great commentary.... i have subscribed.... this must watch content! I love driveway repairs and refreshes with box blades....
Thanks for watching
Great job. I've got an L3901 and really happy with it. Really enjoy the video`s.
Glad you enjoy it! We have many videos of it in action! We just did our 400 hour service video: ruclips.net/video/QwnB-MaMWaY/видео.html
I`ve only got 80 hours on mine and I bought it new in 2015. Should have sold it when I sold our other property, but I like the convenience the few times I do use it. They`re handy to have around.@@PineyGroveHomestead
Looks great! Love driveway gravel grading!
The cost at 5:32. Good to know. thank you for your video,it was informative.
Glad it was helpful! We did another one in this video: ruclips.net/video/Sf0U9w5oVC0/видео.html
Dont kid, yoyrself. You definitely have the skills. Great job. Enjoy your videos
Thanks! With the price of gravel in our area, it's not something you want to mess up!
@@PineyGroveHomestead agree
I'm a decent operator and I always get gravel to where I should leave it alone but I try to do one more thing and end up with a rut or a low spot that takes me another 1/2 hour...lol
I know that feeling. Sometimes you just gotta walk away. Thanks for watching.
Amen brother! Lol
Looks great
Great video! I too am a beginner and your video was VERY helpful! Great Job!!!
Good operator were bad operators at one time, right? Thanks for watching.
When your #57s get integrated with the dense grad (road base) a good topper for ease of maintenance is #11s (chips) there called #11s in Indiana. #57s roll alot, like a whole lot. Hard to keep them in your driveway for long periods of time, great base but I perfer a topper on my driveway. Good luck and good job
Thanks....maybe because it's limestone and not granite, but this driveway has locked in like concrete. We've had some toad soaking rains here in Florida and not a single rock has moved. Amazed the heck out of us!!
Watch the videos on a grader scraper. It is the tool you want. Great choice on the limestone and remember you are never finished
We did this one next! ruclips.net/video/Y3eNXzum-uQ/видео.html
Cost isn't just there at Piney Grove! Each time we need dirt or millings etc. we get hit with your way out west! We're about 20-25 minutes from the city of PSL, We are in Florida as well. Just another way for them to make more money while they can. We hope prices come down in the near future. Your property is looking good.
Thanks for watching. We just did another gravel project....prices went up!
I need a load for my driveway and maybe some topsoil, I’m afraid to call to get the price 🥴, you did a great job Brad 👍🏻🙋🏼♂️🙂
Depending on how far you are from the quarry, it can be pricey! Thanks for watching Luc.
AWESOME Job..........................
Thanks. It's holding up well to downpours!
good job my man
Thank you! 😃 Here's another gravel project: ruclips.net/video/Y3eNXzum-uQ/видео.html
Its a flat driveway. It would be fine with anything but pea gravel. Looks good, and fun!
Here's another gravel project: ruclips.net/video/Y3eNXzum-uQ/видео.html
Wonderful! Thank you! How long did that take you?
I had to dig it out first, so probably 4 weekends. You can scroll through this playlist and find all the videos on the process: ruclips.net/p/PLG5yS75HLzo3RVqEuA0f6IioXV6FtFhHW
how do you like the asphalt millings?
We prefer them but they've gotten pricey! Here's a recent video about them: ruclips.net/video/V6Bz6DvSjyQ/видео.html
What do you use to plow the snow?
We are in Florida....never snows here.
@@PineyGroveHomestead oh okay. I moved to Montana from Cali and new to the snow. I have a long gravel driveway, been looking for ways to plow the snow or snow blow it without picking up the gravel. So far the plower on my zero turn just scooped the gravel up.
Still searching lol.
How well has this packed down over the last 11 months?
It's perfect...not a stone has moved! You can see it in the background of this video: ruclips.net/video/UCip7Zy11ig/видео.html
Great video! How many square feet did you cover? And how many yards are in one of your loads? Thanks!
That was the second video on that gravel spread, here's the first: ruclips.net/video/4DKx6sLC_nM/видео.html It was 40T of road base and 40T of gravel.....2 dual axle dump truck loads of each.
I think we talked about coverage in this video: ruclips.net/video/Sf0U9w5oVC0/видео.html
I'm sorry, but this goes against every road standard out there. Your top coat should contain 15-18% fines, which is how you get your compaction. That clean gravel is a nightmare. Won't compact, moves every time you drive on it, and develops potholes. Always design either slope or crown into your roads, water is the biggest killer on roads. The right equipment makes all the difference in price. We just did 1500 feet of driveway lift for $6,800. But the grader is our bread and butter, crowning and sloping in just a few passes. You have the ability with your box blade to crown and slope, it just takes more time.
It's almost a year old with lots of driving and torrential Florida rains. Pretty much the same as when I graded it in that video. You can see it in the background of this video: ruclips.net/video/UCip7Zy11ig/видео.html
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
This is not easy to get right
Agree! People that get it right the first time are very skilled. We got there eventually.
Test
test!
Nice job sir, I think it came out as good if not better than a contractor would have done. I'm purchasing raw land in northern Idaho soon and I need to install a 1000' driveway on it and I'm doing it myself as I'm a decent operator on excavators and track loaders. I figured my cost at abut 10k for the job not including the cost for the excavator of course
Yes, you can definitely do it! Here's another gravel project: ruclips.net/video/jvUWgklkTLA/видео.html
