Fantastic side by side comparison! Pausing to keep the clips relatively in time with each other was a great idea. It's great to see Kai doing his thing as well
Now we need one more video with the skinnies ! One of these days I'm going to do a crawl control test and compare skinny versus wide from at traction perspective
The only downside to long travel suspension is cost, there’s no other real downside to the LT. Mid Travel has more downfalls than long travel for wheeling like this, medium rock crawling. Mid travel has better on road manners and “less maintenance” and cost much less but a tuned long travel is just so capable and can do slow technical stuff as well as high speed where is can really shine. If money was not an issue the majority of people would choose long travel but if budget is a worry mid travel is the way to go. I’ve seen people with a long travel front suspension and a mid travel or extended travel rear which could be a good choice for heavy Overlanding rigs. Great video, I absolutely love the side by side views showing the difference between the 2 FJ’s. 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
I think both maintenance and safety are two aspects highly overlooked when it comes to a LT setup vs mid-travel. To me not going to LT on my FJ was way more about reliability/maintenance/safety than it was about cost. Just a quick search of the forums shows endless threads about squeaking joints and all kinds of other upkeep. People relatively new to the 4x4 world seem quick to want the best setup for offroad possible and seem to completely forget that their vehicle spends 80+ % of the time on the highway. This doesn't even begin to address all the safety issues around not running sway bars. The amount of offroad enthusiasts out there driving their families around in loaded up vehicles that would horribly fail a simple moose test is kind of frightening. Now don't get me wrong, LT is absolutely amazing, I just think people need to be more realistic and realize they will probably never do anything more difficult than what the mid travel FJ performed pretty flawlessly in this video. Just my 2 cents, both of those FJ's are badass and I love how clean each build is esthetically.
Probably a long shot, but it would be amazing to see the Blue FJ redo this exact trail but with the new Apex Designs "KWIKLYNX TOYOTA SWAY BAR DISCONNECTS" and get to see side by side footage of how different the FJ flexes in the same situations. Manual disconnects would make for a pretty great mid travel setup that is somewhere in between both FJ's in the above video, while also not loosing any of the on road safety the sway bar provides.
Did the blue FJ still have its swaybars connected or disconnected? That would make a huge difference. I dont feel like my GX460 with KDSS bobbles like that blue FJ did on Trail 11 at 1:30 and I am running the same 6112/5160 setup.
@@4WDisLife I think the results of the comparison would be a lot different if he had just the front bar disconnected. It would have been much closer to the long travel FJ I think. Leave the rear bar on so that the IFS is forced to work a little more and keep the truck flatter.
@@Jay-me7gw I was thinking the same thing with regards to the sway bars. I believe that Kai has a HD rear sway bar and no front sway bar per his videos on his white FJ LT. So, the blue FJ should do the same HD rear sway bar and remove the front sway bar to see if the blue mid travel FJ articulates close to the long travel white FJ. More of an apples to apples comparison. I copied Kai's setup with a HD rear swaybar and no front sway bar. My 2003 GX470 now has a 12" cross travel index articulation. I also have extended length rear shock, extended rear coils, and extended rear sway bar end links.
@@MHam1 Yeah exactly. I sold my kdss GX460 and bought an LX570 which has normal, although relatively soft, sway bars since the AHC system handles a lot of the body roll. I am thinking about trying it out with my front sway bar disconnected to see how it handles offroad. Its pretty good stock, but once in a while you can feel the front end kinda take control and do the head bobble thing. I dont wanna totally remove it since I use the truck to tow.
These videos are absolutely fantastic! Totally hooked on the off-road engineering content. Quick question though-those sleek white cushions in the white Fj at the 0.52-minute mark, any chance you could drop the link? I'm eager to explore those beauties. thanks!
I would think this also translates to a smoother experience as a passenger? My wife hates being shaken around off road. Maybe I could justify 5k in wheels, tires, suspension? 😁

Tinkerer Adventure's long travel FJ is badass! Great video Cong!
Thank you JonDZ! I am back in action!

Good video. The long travel FJ has a fantastic stance. Would like to see a Jeep Gladiator on the trails with its long wheel base.
I do have the footage of a Tacoma going thru the same trails, editing them soon.

Good video thank you, I really like long travel especially going fast off-road I just wish it didnt cost like $15k plus for it
Thank you for the comment man. I am the same. Love telling travel but can’t justify.

Love your videos. More G-Wagon content please!
Thanks man. I will try to get the g wagon friend to come out more often.

I would agree. Maybe that extra 5k is worth it then! do it!
I'm sure you're looking at a lot more than 5k for that, that's probably more 5k in suspension alone.
How much travel for each vehicle? Maybe add to the description?
What’s the front bumper on the long travel FJ?! Looks clean
Would like to see how a 6 inch lift with 35s would do here too
Great video!!
Thank you!
I went to AOAA this day instead of the main group to Rausch. I have long rear & mid front, I wish I was there to be the 3rd factor lol
***and I have the beefed up rear sway, with no front.
@@Echo22WC oh that would been great if you were in the video…we could have seen the difference in articulation in your setup versus the blue FJ
did the blue FJ have a front sway bar?
White Fj Cruiser suspension: ...................a little over 2 inch of lift front and rear
For Clarity, is that Body Lift or Suspension lift? Thanks
Suspension lift
Super video
Thank you!
how u doing?! very perfect . 🤞
Thanks for commenting.

@@4WDisLife la blanca. yo tengo con 35 y se ven como la azul y tengo una azul . Gracias por el dato
What length rear shocks are in the white FJ?
Did the blue FJ have the swaybar disconnected? I imagine it did but unsure
the white FJ has front sway disconnected, while the rear is a beefed up version.
