"The man is a legend" - truth.
I kinda gave up on the Opeth Top 5 videos for now. I got overwhelmed. 😂I'll get back to it.
I laughed so hard when you said "I have a top five per song"😂. Really like your reactions, thank you!
Love from Sweden ❤
Fully understand you, hopeless task to single out top 5, especially given their transformation throughout the years, some days you want the raw early black metal Opeth, other days proggy-mania Opeth, other days all parts in the middle.
To help you, maybe a top-5 Opeth per style - black / death / acoustic/ covers / prog or similar.
You are very entertaining to watch🙏
I'm talking about specific Top 5s, not just their Top 5 songs. Like, top 5 o-sitions, top 5 intros/outrs, top 5 demon scares, etc. :)
Opeth is one of the greatest bands of the last thirty years.
One of my favorites in their ballad category. It can't get much better than this!❤
Fun fact: Ghost Reveries is a pseudo concept album BUT Isolation Years is the only song that has nothing to do with the concept. Mikael said:
"I had intended to do a occult concept piece lyrically and got off to a great start with some downright evil lyrics like "The Baying of the Hounds" and "Ghost of Perdition", then I did "Isolation Years" which had nothing to do with the intended concept but I liked it so much I decided to ease up on the concept idea in favour of this one lyric."
It's a gorgeous song that make's me wanna reach for the Kleenex box.
So sad, and so beautifully done.
My mother just lost her best friend of 12 years, 2 weeks ago to lung cancer and this hit me heard for her.
I dare not play this in front of her.
She's lost.
Still, such a beautifully done song and Ghost Reveries MUST be listened to IN ORDER to get the entire story.
Have a great rest of the week and weekend Lauren!
Great reaction. The deep cuts on this album are all god tier. When youre done with another demon song, i'd really recommend listening to Hours of Wealth. Mikael's best clean vocals IMO, and very different from anything else in the discography
❤
Oh hey she's still alive!! Been awhile
Thank you for reacting to one of my favorite Opeth songs. I can't explain to you the emotions this song evokes in me.
If you want to hear another short song, listen to Patterns in the Ivy. It's just piano and guitar, but the dissonant harmonies between the two are amazing.
Love your show, Lady L. 🤘😎🤘
(again, lovely hair.)
The song which got me into Opeth and they have been my absolute favourite band for a couple of years now 😊
Been waiting for this since you first started with Opeth! Thanks for this
Wow, yes. That one is so poetic. And as people recommended here - listen to Hours of Wealth from the same album.
Now I have to go back and enjoy you falling out your your chair at the first demon appearance lol
Not only is this one of my favourite Opeth songs, it's one of my favourite songs of all time - simple yet effective storytelling.
Just beautiful. Thanks Lauren
This song is hauntingly beautiful the way only Opeth can be. I hate that I don’t have this album on vinyl.
Have you ever checked out The Mars Volta? they’re in the top tier of Prog Rock bands in my book. Way different from Opeth and other prog bands you react to, but I think you’ll enjoy their energy. Maybe start with “Inertiatic ESP” or “Eriatarka”
Edit - also, “Cicatriz ESP” was mine and many other people’s first Volta song so that’s also a great jumping off point.
🙋🏻♀️
Hey, if you ever want a chill and fun opeth video, listen to "mellotron heart"! It's porcelain heart, but played only played by the Mellotron.
I'm happy that this video finally came out. This is one of the my favourite Opeth songs, and I try to recommend it to you since your first Opeth reactions. I knew that you would have liked it! So, if you liked this one, I bet that you will love "Routine" by Steven Wilson. I think you made a video a long ago with "Arriving somewhere but not here" by Porcupine Tree, and you were not so enthusiastic about it. I have to say, Steven Wilson musical albums as an individual are something different from what he did with PT, I think that would be a good start, you'll probably fall in love with most of his discography!
You probably know by now cause you filmed this over a month ago but since you asked in the video: Isolation year is the only song in this record that isn't tied with the theme of the other ones, Mikeal said in an interview that he had this song for a long while and because he liked it so much he decided to insert it in this record as he had some time to fill. You can think about Ghost Reveries as a concept album with the addition of "Isolation Years".
This song wasn't originally meant to be on the album, so it feels slightly out of place as the closer when you listen to the whole album. The Grand Conjuration, which is the previous track, was supposed to be the closer.
Ahem....Jan 30, 2022 I commented that you should listen to this. Good things come to those who wait!
Just wait til you hear more off of Damnation. Full of songs like this one.
Please you just have to do “Beneath The Mire” the only song you haven’t done from Ghost Reveries. The most underrated songs ever , still one of their best. Please be the first to react to it 🫶
No one does brutal or beautiful quite like Mikael & OPETH and I don’t think anyone does or has done “brutiful” better(.)
And to think this utterly poignant beauty of a song to end a gleaming gem of an album just came off the heels of one of their most brutal tracks, “The Grand Conjuration”, that really had nothing to do with the rest of story, just shows you how seamlessly he can mash the two extremes together, and make it work……perfectly!
I’m like you on the fade-out thing, Lauren, but I think an album’s LAST song should slowly fade away to signal there will be a return! And, if you loved this one, you have to….Have To….HAVE TO checkout “Hours or Wealth” on this same album, you will not be disappointed.
Thanks, ✌🏼, 🤟🏼, & 🤘🏼!
Disturbingly captivating.
It's a beautiful song,what a band.
It's an amazing band
Am stuck with it 15 years ago untill now!
When you listen to them songs you'll find other bands songs not as the same quality!
just do your top fifty-five, I'd watch!
🖤🤘
Out of context, but I have a hot take. 😵💫 Still life is better version of BWP. So many epic #ositions
i kove this song so bad
Since you seem to focus a lot on lyrics and like depressing ones.. have you heard Bonnie Prince Billy? Songs like "I see a darkness", "Black" and "Grand Dark feeling of Emptiness". If you feel like stepping out of the rock genre for a bit.
Hey Lauren
Hey, Paliv! :)
Mikael is a god....try continuum
