Gurdwara Bhai Karam Singh Jehlum! Historical Facts Of This Holy Shrine Situated Bank of River

- Jhelum is an ancient city with a number of historical sites which getting out of the site because of they have been neglected over the time and often left abandoned. The "Bhai Karam Singh Gurdawara" is one of those sites.
The sacred site of Gurdwara Bhai Karam Singh is showing its splendour in the Bagh Muhalla, Jhleum on the river bank of River Jhelum. No exact date is mentioned when this Gurdawara was built, but the sign plates shows that it dates back to early 1920s. Earlier, It had only small piece of land; but gradually, with the mutual contributions of various people like Raies e Azam Lahore bawa Dinga Singh, Bhai Karam Singh Ahluwalia, an outstanding two floor Gurdawara was built. The most prominent name among all the contributors was Bhai Karam Singh Ahluwalia; that’s the reason it’s being associated with his name. According to the historian’s the expansions of Gurdawara took it 6 years from 1938 to 1944.
Front door of the yellow colored building opens in North-West side; in a less crowded street of Bagh Muhalla. Unlike other Sikh Gurdawaras this exterior of this building does not have any minaret or arches. Entering the beautifully carved wooden front door you have Gurdawara has a big hall in its middle with a remainder of the foundation, which was possibly used to install holy Guru Garnath Sahib. Contradicting with this; some people have other opinions saying that it’s a remainder of the foundation of Palki and Guru Garnath Sahib was placed over it. There is a text written over it in "Gurmukhi" language. Text starts with the word, "Ik Onkar" which means God is one.rooms on your both sides.

Thank you for the guided tour of this heritage building.... unfortunately no restoration has been done to retain the beautiful structure. Nevertheless, it’s still gratifying to be able to see places in these videos, where our parents grew up, even if we can never visit them! My 92 year old mother grew up in Jhelum....her house was very close to this gurudwara pre partition from 1929-1947
Another very emotional clip in the video is to see the name of my brother in law’s late parents ‘Sardar Sawan Singh & his wife Bibi Mela Devi’, who did sewa of the gurdwara back in the 1930’s. .... their names are engraved on a stone in punjabi & are quite clear in the video. Thank you so much!🙏🙏

If both mazabs were same, today, this gurudwara and others on that side would not be in this condition! In Maharaja Ranjit Singh's time most religious places were covered in gold, weather it was a gurudwara, mandir or masjid. It is quite disturbing when one cannot see any sikhs around these places.

What a beautiful building. If I had the money I would have fully restored it and leave a fully functioning langar khana. Such a shame that a building of such magnificence has been left unloved for so long in the Jhelum that is so amazing.
You can still see Gurmukhi scripts on walls of Gurdwara. Sad to see Gurdwara in bad condition. WaheGuru!

My home city. I have been to this building many times over the last 50 years
As always, I look forward to your videos even though they leave me sad. Where is the Pakistani Sikh Sangat?? We see some of them during functions but what is their input towards these empty places? They probably are doing a lot but we can't see anyone around. Because we can't see them about their normal lives, it is not a comfortable feeling for the viewers when it comes to contributions for repairs. Thank you for the video and please keep up the good work.
As a Pakistani, I am really sorry to see the current state of this Building. We should preserve these buildings but I think because there is no Sikh or might be few Sikh in that area and it will be hard for them to look after this building so that might be the reason or poor state of this Gurdawara. I wish Pakistani Govt takes care of all relgious places. Pakistan Sikh Parbandak Commitee should step forward and acquire their religious places and look after all Gurdawara, I am sure all Muslims will help them.
Respect our old culture , whether it is Hindu or Islamic.
