Surely Analogue are investing (wasting) money in designing and producing these? Surely they'd be better off investing that time and money into a new product. Either that, or if they're looking to make some pennies for their next project, just re-release some of their other consoles. Maybe the Mega SG or Super NT but with the ability to use save states. Maybe release a redesigned Nes for people who missed out on the original NT and NT mini. There's so much more they could be doing over keep rehashing the pocket, and there seems to be a market for the above products. I'd personally love to see an Analogue Ps1, or Saturn, or even both in one unit (which I doubt they'd do). It's not like these haven't been implemented into fpga yet either.
Oh no, I didn't even think of that, they're gonna do aluminum docks too, aren't they? I was so mad when I saw the white dock to match my white Pocket after they acted like the original black one was limited or something. We waited a while for those to become available.
I hate that theirs a price difference between the while and black docks just from one being “limited edition” which is bs since they have the same material and moulds to make a while pocket they can make a white doc also and charge the same 99$ for either black of white.

@@fritzthecat8158 maybe, but at the same time I do sell and trade a lot and usually the end goal is what makes the most business sense, what can be used for video content. Very few things do I keep for myself.
I’m glad you got one. I know personally you’re against this business model but as you said you are a business as well and sometimes you have to bite the bullet. You should make a video now of 10 ways to better spend $500 if you are a collector 😅
I'm ignorant to these Analogues, does it come with any games pre-loaded? honestly not a big deal to me if it doesnt, I can upload my own but just curious
I was enjoying this video and right when you started talking about grainage,.. the mushrooms kicked in. Next thing I know I had an ATM receipt in my hand that said insufficient funds and a Robert Mitchum noir was on TV !
@Madlittlepixel would you be able to do a follow up video? I’d love to know how warm the new pocket gets from a room temp cold start to compare with after regular game play.
does it mean the plastic version also gets as hot, and we aren't aware of it until it's too late ? due to the unit being destroyed by the heat stroke. hmmmm. i guess time will tell. :(
Metal conducts heat very easily and it encases more heat as well. Plastic doesn't have that same problem, the heat can get out just fine. I don't think the metal one gets warm enough to cause much problems though. Battery would drain a bit faster and the battery would degrade faster, but that's about it. Electronics can usually withstand some heat.
Stuff like this tends to be more common with these all-metal casings since it's much harder to work it precisely. Anyhow, these metal things 'look' cool, but they aren't actually meant to be used.
Glad you got one (at what price/trade you did)! It's hard to compare to other consoles, in my opinion. Yes, you can get a Steam Deck; but for people like me, I get motion sickness watching 3d graphics for too long! So I stick with my 2D graphics....hence, I love my Pocket!
I have the silver one on the way. Sold the clear smoke because I wanted the silver aluminium to match it with my silver NT Mini. Aside from that, the other reason is the plastic shell and the cracks that show up in them. Of course I had one on the clear smoke model, on the lower left corner of the screen, just like everyone else affected by this issue has. Crazy expensive this aluminum Pocket, but on the other hand, I got my NT Mini second hand and I paid for it 650 euros, but I don't regret it. I am a bit curious about the Retro USB AVS, how does it stack up to the NT Mini, when it comes to image quality, compatibility with games, etc. @Madlittlepixel, you have both, what's your take on it?
@@SlCKB0Y-sb1kg my NT Mini somehow has a quite good cart slot, which was a nice surprise considering all the people that have pointed out as this being a minus. But aside the price, which is not going to be just 200$ for me, more like over 350$ when it reaches EU, I wonder if it really is performing better than the NT Mini on certain aspects. For example, PAL Kirby's Adventure has some audio issues when I am running it on PAL mode, and I need to switch to NTSC, which will give me the right audio, but sped up. Anyways, it's more of a curiosity, I don't plan on getting an AVS really soon, if ever.
If analogue wants me to spend that kind of money on a device I already own, they better at the very least put a perfect replica of the neo geo pocket mini stick...
This was one where I didnt think the purchase id make up the money in views, but the trade was mostly stuff I received for review so it kind of made sense to me. If the video does ok, than thats a bonus
Analogue is supposed to release an N64 FPGA console in 2024, and they haven't even shown the console yet, let alone giving us a release window or a price. Instead they are fleecing customers as much as possible with these overpriced devices while claiming the plastic Pocket is out of stock. This company is a complete mess.
I showed the weighing of it in the video as picture in picture, also put the weight in text afterwards. was maybe 4 ounces more... something like that.
Sad how expensive new portable electronics are (phones/consoles/etc). I bet if Sony or Microsoft were to release a new portable console it would be around what this thing costs. After your review, yeah definite pass.
$500 for a novelty device that people tinker with for a few hours to test out ROMs before it inevitably collects dust in a drawer. Seems like a good idea.
I wouldnt say its a novelty device, $500 is dumb though for the Aluminum version. But my original plastic Analogue Pocket is probably one of my most used consoles for the past few years. Obviously I cant speak for everyone as I am sure many probably have let theirs collect dust.. but I get a lot of use out of mine. So yeah dont spend $500 for these, if actually intrigued by what it does wait to get a normal version.
Analogue's marketing can be hype, but there is nothing Hype about FPGA emulation, Ive been playing emulators since Raine and MAME day1 and the responsiveness, and sound reproduction accuracy alone make it a must play.
i've got black classic version + dock... cool stuff but loading time on big games (NeoGeo / CPS / IREM) is a mess !!! and when i want to play quick for 10min for exemple... i take my rg35xx... shame on me, but damn the loading time dude !!!

Didn't fold if I traded stuff I mostly got for free..
@@Ryuujin1078 not a fold, but yes, understandable if he had
@@fritzthecat8158 maybe, but at the same time I do sell and trade a lot and usually the end goal is what makes the most business sense, what can be used for video content. Its mostly business and not personal taste. Most likely I will sell the Pocket at some point or even trade it, people dont realize it but a lot of the stuff I have gets cycled through for content ... Very few things do I keep for myself.
@@Madlittlepixel That's interesting, I thought you must have a huge collection of stuff. Glad you got it, I wanted to see that thing working.
@@ChuckmanFilms He didn't fold guys he just went from a straight line to a 90 degree angle...
I’m glad you got one. I know personally you’re against this business model but as you said you are a business as well and sometimes you have to bite the bullet. You should make a video now of 10 ways to better spend $500 if you are a collector 😅
I would never pay $500 for a small handheld console I rather buy another Steam Deck instead for $500
I’m selling mine for 350 bucks
I'm ignorant to these Analogues, does it come with any games pre-loaded? honestly not a big deal to me if it doesnt, I can upload my own but just curious
no, it plays original gameboy to advance carts and some other carts with adapters and has separate cores for roms.
@@marks5757 they’re great but definitely get a regular one, not this aluminum one
"Analogue Pocket does not play copyrighted rom files, or dump game cartridges. It plays legacy game cartridges directly via the cartridge slot."
Ok Mr. "I'm never going to get this... like ever. The price is insane."
I was enjoying this video and right when you started talking about grainage,.. the mushrooms kicked in. Next thing I know I had an ATM receipt in my hand that said insufficient funds and a Robert
Mitchum noir was on TV !
Bro what
I honestly had faith that you would keep the "not worth it, period" position...
No
Maybe
Metal conducts heat very easily and it encases more heat as well. Plastic doesn't have that same problem, the heat can get out just fine. I don't think the metal one gets warm enough to cause much problems though. Battery would drain a bit faster and the battery would degrade faster, but that's about it. Electronics can usually withstand some heat.
On the original one the plastic on the bottom is so sharp. It just cuts into my pinky all the time. When I hold it. Do the metal ones do the same?
I always thought the initial release was going to be alloy but then it was plastic. They really dropped the ball on this one.
Mine is also hot like a mf 😢 i hate it. Thanks for the video
I cant justify buying this, but I do appreciate you covering this, sir. Always enjoy your takes.
I knew you would get one, lol. Glad you warned us!
Looks like the d-pad moves around a bit in the housing. Does that happen with the plastic model?
Stuff like this tends to be more common with these all-metal casings since it's much harder to work it precisely. Anyhow, these metal things 'look' cool, but they aren't actually meant to be used.
Yep that thing is going to overheat… calling it now
The nice local guy❌
Analogue ✔️
You guys know why? Because normally the noir ships at early August so right now there’s only analogue has the noir Lmao
Glad you got one (at what price/trade you did)! It's hard to compare to other consoles, in my opinion. Yes, you can get a Steam Deck; but for people like me, I get motion sickness watching 3d graphics for too long! So I stick with my 2D graphics....hence, I love my Pocket!
hard pass at any price, looks nice though
AVS is awesome.
@@SlCKB0Y-sb1kg I know it is, but I am interested in any advantages that it may have over the NT Mini.
@@alexandruc.5647 It’s $200 instead of $800-$1000 or even more. Also, the cart slots are not at all problematic like many on the NT mini.
And to think i was crazy buying a 100$ metal gold controller lol
So thats $746 Australian no thanks 🙏🏼
Plus Shipping + Taxes
I wish they rerelease the NT mini.
If analogue wants me to spend that kind of money on a device I already own, they better at the very least put a perfect replica of the neo geo pocket mini stick...
The color thing - almost like dithering in print??
The trade will probably make up the cost hopefully from the views.
How much more does it weigh? Did I miss that in your video?
I showed the weighing of it in the video as picture in picture, also put the weight in text afterwards. was maybe 4 ounces more... something like that.
@@Madlittlepixelsorry I missed it. Thanks for the info!
Idk why anyone would buy this besides collecting of course, you could just buy a normal analogue pocket or just buy a modded gameboy for so much less.
Designed to degrade over a shorter lifespan... the FPGA emulation FOMO is hype
Analogue's marketing can be hype, but there is nothing Hype about FPGA emulation, Ive been playing emulators since Raine and MAME day1 and the responsiveness, and sound reproduction accuracy alone make it a must play.
I can’t lie I only bought the noir to go with my nt mini too lol.
i've got black classic version + dock... cool stuff but loading time on big games (NeoGeo / CPS / IREM) is a mess !!! and when i want to play quick for 10min for exemple... i take my rg35xx... shame on me, but damn the loading time dude !!!
I thought you hated it and Analogue! Trading is no different to buying it, you still spent the money. Shame on you.
Mine doesn't even get remotely warm.
What core is this?
People are really upset what a grown man does with his money?
The same people that will buy vga sealed and graded products (video games) for thousands. But act like this thing has no use.
I love aluminum handhelds, love that color of grey, and I can afford it. I bought the noir, can’t wait to hear all the people who think they’re better at spending my hard earned money than I am. Sorry, can’t hear you over my smile!
Nipple and dimple aka convex and concave.
I didn’t because (YOU SAID NOT TO) 🤦♂️ now I wish I did 😢
Now you have 500 dollars more for more important things in life. At the end of the day, WE should not forget that this thing is a toy 🤷🏻♂️😅
I mean..I bought a “natural” one ..for full price..but yunno...
..I also have a noir NT mini, as well as a silver NT mini..so maybe I’m just..stupid 🤷♂️
I love the metal body... but the thick bezel is noticeable .... 😒
$100 TOPS
I figured you would find a way to get one. No hate i totally get it. I do the same thing with different products
Honestly, half the stuff I buy thats either for the channel or gaming stuff in general I wind up winging it this way .. selling stuff, trading things... it usually works out to my benefit where im not spending as much as it seems. Gotta get creative at times to not go broke, just didn't think Id have people offering to make deals on trades on something like this.
@Madlittlepixel that's what I do with my handhelds. I buy most of the ones available. If I don't like it I sell and put it towards another one. If I like it I keep it until I don't anymore then sell it to get another one
Analogue should recall this because it's a red flag
Overpriced
