- RMS Orion was built by Vickers Armstrong in Barrow-in-Furness for the Orient Steam Navigation Co. Launched in 1934 she was one of the most innovative passenger ships of her age, a landmark in the evolution of the modern liner. In 1934 Orion was a ship of the future.
I just wanted to tell that I'm thankful for your group's work, and I could see from the behind the scenes videos how much enthusiasm is this done with.
My family boarded the the Orion in Vancouver in May of 1956 to travel through the Pacific to New Zealand where the younger members of the family survive.
It was a turning point in our lives having left England just after the War. Our parents wanted a better life for their family, something New Zealand did so well.
Long live happy memories of s.s. Orion.
Amazing model, beautifully filmed!
A well detailed ship with a well narrated documentary. Good photography. Having said that, you missed a very important thing and that is a good view of the model as a whole!! How did you missed that?:)
My Granny and Grandpa; Uncle, Aunt and their 3 month old daughter, my Aunt's mother in law, and close friends of our family all sailed on ORION from Tilbury to Melbourne in March 1961. I quite clearly remember going on board to see the family off; knowing full well that we would be following them on RMS ORONSAY in a month's time. What a beautiful ship was Orion and Oronsay. I loved the Orient Steam Navigation Line; especially her livery and everything about them. Unfortunately; Bloody P&O took them over with those lousy white liveried ships, and changed all Orient Line boats to that crappy white colour. I don't think ORION however had a change of colour as she was scrapped in 1963. WONDERFUL MEMORIES.......WONDERFUL DAYS!!!! I still relive that trip in my mind frequently and have even dreamt that I was onboard ORONSAY a few times.
