    Thank you Angies for these technics. I am Samer from Sydney. Usually I sing in the church from my young days. I like the way you explain things and doing the vocal exercises understandable. ❤

    This is the first time I learn of the cup techniques over the straw method [back pressure ] to improve my vocal singing. Normally I prefer to use a harmonica / music recorder / kazoo wind instrument to improve my breathing and singing techniques. Thanks I can use the cup for my voice recovery therapy from over singing over the weekends.

      Ok great. That will reduce swelling. Make sure it’s gentle to start with. Also tongue out should help reduce the squeezing/compression that is happening too.

    I sing highnotes easily, but i think my mid range is blocked, i struggle singing the easiest songs, any tips for that?

    • @JoshElliottMusic

      Same here. My head voice is strong and effortless. It’s the middle and upper chest voice where I’m getting locked. Every video and coaching program seems to be about the “high notes”. I wish there was more focus on this middle area of our range.

      Hey. So 5-10% of people have this challenge- check out my low notes video. Do you have a weak talking voice or is it just when you sing? Ar as in car 5 step sticcatto exercises are a great place to start working from G2-C4 - tongue out can help with connection too. Just be careful. They can wear you out initially so better in small 2-4 minute workouts a few times a day. Let me know how you go.

    I practice in the A#3 scale and can belt out till C5 but not beyond. My voice cracks after that. Any idea from where should I start the mixing and how to smoothen it out so that it sounds like one voice? Right now my chest voice and head voice sound like 2 different persons. Any help would be very useful :)

    • @AngiesVocals
      @AngiesVocals  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there. Yes so that’s a typical heavy chest tendency which means the muscles aren’t mixing as you go higher. You will actually need to start adjusting from the D4/E4 - just in exercises for now. Double arpeggios or 1.5 scale where you do very light/quiet scales to teach the voice to mix as at the moment the muscle/air balance is too strong.. going light resets it. Once it’s mixing you can start to increase the volume. Tongue out should also help while you are retraining the muscles.

    My head voice is strong and effortless. It’s the middle and upper chest voice where I’m getting locked. This is why I’m not able to bridge and feel I have to belt in mid chest range. I seem to have the opposite problem that most people have. Any ideas?

      @@AngiesVocalsThanks for the reply. I wouldn’t say I have a weak speaking or chest voice. It’s quite the opposite. It’s too heavy and belty. So I have a really hard time singing lighter and thinning out the voice. That’s what I mean by the voice getting locked. It’s locked into a heavy coordination. Probably due to many years of playing in loud band in bars with poor monitoring. I’ll check out the exercise you suggest and it seems like the cup exercise might be good for me

    • @AngiesVocals
      @AngiesVocals  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@JoshElliottMusic ah yes. That’s quite common. Cup might help but also light oo, ugly bubbles through your mix on 1.5 scales to start to gently teach the folds to mix. Also tongue out is great - you’ll need to roll around 3-4 on a cycle to start to break the cycle on that muscle memory but it can and will lest. To work in a new way. That’s what I used to sing like.

    Where can I buy a good straw? I see a lot of *Drinking* straws in Amazon, yes after I typed and searched for "Singing Straw"... will those work? They are iron-reusable straws, get those? Thank you!

      I was wondering the same thing but also, what size of straw, it looks like she’s using one of those small Starbucks straws but that obviously restricts a different amount of air than a larger straw from normal fountain drink or does it even matter, I hope we can get an answer.

    • @AngiesVocals
      @AngiesVocals  7 месяцев назад

      Hi - there are some great options on straws out there - some of my students use the ones from the shops and there are some small metal ones that will help depending on your goals - developing the lower area of your range needs a larger straw - middle and mix needs a narrower straw and any higher mix/whistle tone needs a smaller straw again. I'm loving these ones bit.ly/SingingStraws it's hard to get the sizes as accurate so these are tailored for different resistences in your voice. Great investment.

      It's tricky to find straws the right size - have a look at these - they are the ones I am using in the video bit.ly/SingingStraws it's hard to get the sizes as accurate so these are tailored for different resistences in your voice. Great investment. I have tried various ones from different shops which you can try but these ones are developed for specific pressure to develop different areas of the voice.

    • @AngiesVocals
      @AngiesVocals  8 месяцев назад +7

      There’s 3 straws. 1 strengthens chest/mix, 1 develops connection in middle mix voice and the other strengthens high mix/head voice. So you can use the one you need to develop.
