I was lucky enough to own a 1983 Haro Sport freestyle, it was white with the white mag rims. I am 53 now and my whole life I have thought about that bike that I greatly miss. I got it at 13 and rode it every day until I was 15 when I got my driver's license and a white chevy step side. We moved away from that home when I was 17 and the bike was left laying in overgrown grass. Boy I had no idea what I really had back then when I was a dumb kid.
Man this story almost brings a tear to my eye….
I owned a 1987 Haro Team Master with chrome peregrine wheels.. great times 👍
I'm not really a big bike guy but watching you restore that haro reminds me of the redline GT I had when I was a young teenager. Also because of you I'm getting my diamond back mountain bike restored at my local bike shop so my wife and I can ride old people style😊😊

I own and restored a 87 FST. I redid mine to resemble the 86 in white because I liked the more classic look. The geometry is a blast! I really love to ride it! Fun stuff!

Awesome. I had an 87 FST. Green. I put white skyways on it and the gyro braking system. So RAD. This brings back memories. Stuff I forgot about like the mushroom grips! We used gasoline to put them on. Well. We were 12 years old in the 1980s so we pretty much used gasoline for everything!

Wow, my old frame! Was my second frame, had the turquoise/black version, only of its kind in Jamaica. Bent the handle, stem, forks, broke the mags, many cranks. But the actual frame took all the abuse and never failed. (Cracked the Dyno in 2 places). The GTs and Dynos felt soo short while this Haro felt perfect for jumping and street. Ended up running kneesavers, Hoffman super forks and 48s. Wasn't too into flatland. Progress lead me to the S&M Dirt bike. Sorry I gave away my FSX frame, had many great years on it. Very nice build, beautiful bike.

Oh God, it's beautiful! I just bought 2022 Sky Way 80's Replica, so happy. This is absolutely amazing!!!! Tuffs just let BMX bikes off, I don't care what anyone says! No knock offs, light blue Sky Way or nothing.
I wanted Peregrines but they are outta control so I went with the copies
I had an FSX. I put peregrine 3 piece crank, rl edge 48s, pitbull in the rear, boa up front, haro fusion pedals, haro kneesaver bars, gt pegs. I loved that bike
Who didn’t use hairspray for their grips is the better question! Aqua net worked the best. That bike is 😍😍

There's this stuff I tried at work called "barkeepers friend" it cleaned aluminum extremely well. I digress the chain ring looked great when you were finished. Piecing a bike together is expensive and so time consuming! Beautiful bike though. Looks gr8

Mine was identical but with white mag rims. Thing was a tank! I got hit by a truck when I played frogged. And I lived!

I used to freestyle on a haro. Ack in the 80s in Coachella valley Memories im 48 now still ride now on a 29 bike😀

Man u can't even imagine how many of those one piece cranks I've damn near folded in half back in the day! Changed em atleast once a week even. My first 3 piece crank was like an epiphany!

I just found and rebuilt a 2004 haro Nyquist R24.... Found some araya special edition Japan rims with redline flip flop hubs to slap on it. Need some paint but runs pretty good for almost 20 years old. Thanks for sharing your bike build. Awesome bike.

Yessir. I missed the 24" Trickstar they released a couple of years ago. Still kicking myself...
Wood bleech works for rusted steel parts. You can get it at home center stores for round 10 bucks, you need 2 of them to treat a big tub full of water. You could do a whole bike minus the frame for 20 bucks. Let it soak for a couple days and the rust is gone.

Bike is killer man. Only the mags kook like a department store mag! I would have did a nice Skyway tuff mag. But hey it's yours and it's badass 😎

Dish soap for grip installation works good as well. After it dries, the grips stay put.
Peregrine mags are RAD. I wanted a 1986 Haro Freestyler with white ones sooo bad. Never did get one.
I would sooner have this than a Soundwave any day, i couldn't understand if a young kid or teenager said its not as cool as a Sunday Soundwave. I would be baffled 🤔 awesome bike 💯👍😊

That's a sweet build. My buddy had one of those back in the day it was the coolest bike on the block. Only thing I would have done different would have been the handle grips, those ones always made my hands feel tingly or like they're falling asleep after a while.

Great video big d the bike turned out awesome reminds of back in the day when I had a few bmx bikes myself. I remember I got this gt Dyno had got it for payment for mowing this guy's yard it was a basket case but it was all there.After getting it put together it was the best bike in the trailer park that thing took everything thing I put it through until one summer it got stolen. I had a 1991 FSX. .It came with 6 spoke skyways. I replaced them with 48 R.L Edge's

I never had a Haro. I had a Redline, GT Dyno, BMX Mongoose, GT Performer and a few others. Nice looking bike. BTW, I now own a Haro MTB tho…

I used to put on grips with spray paint. Little harder to clean up than hairspray I’d imagine.
If you ever have to reuse bearings and they’re a little rough soak them overnight in windex

Woulda gone black pedals, white seat, and white grips. All of the different blues clash but the mags go with the decals perfectly!
I noticed that as well. And I thought the same. Maybe I’ll try this and see how it looks. I did find some lighter blue grips that match better
In the UK, we call those wheels "shatter mags". There's a reason they cost a third of the price of Tuff IIs. Apart from that, lovely build. Especially like the colour combinations.

The dominator seats are repop right now and can be found online for around $40
Seat post is 22.2mm or 7/8”

I have a drain pipe seatpost and almost put it on. I'm a big boi so having the seatpost up high is necessity, lol

Do you remember when Murray had a bmx out I recently found one it a team Murray bmx 20" with a band/ drum brake on the back wheel now the bike ruff but I couldn't see it going to scrap so I saved it now it is before my time and 37 so do you remember see any of these

Hey, amazing build! Have a ‘87 Team Sport myself and was thinking about the same “Peregrine” Vandorm Mags - how are they on the long run?
I'll be honest, I got them for the looks. Haven't ridden the bike since assembling it. I'm a bit too big for a 20" bike, just have fun building them.

Actually I was thinking about the same thing since legit Peregrine mags are pretty hard and darn pricey to come by but finally I told myself if I was to spend a fortune of my old school Haro, I’d at least put a pair of Skyways on them, which I did eventually. Although I’m still thinking about the mags you got, those aero spokes on them look way cooler than your average Skyway tuffs.
My UK viewers have commented these as “shatter mags” so you may want to be careful if you’re going to rip it on the half pipe or something 🤷♂️

Spectacular build. If I was doing it I would throw some Araya 48's on it and a Fusion 3 piece crank and possibly some '88 kneesaver bars in black and chrome, but other than that it would look very similar to how you've done it here. The colour accenting is really well thought out and I love the MKS graphite pedals in blue also.

It does absolutely look as cool as I remember but I would have went with different parts. Course, there are those who would go with different parts than I would use but I would have updated and upgraded with the same repop parts those with those bikes would have used back in the day. I would have found a "teamdisk" spider. One came on me "Slow ride". I would have upgraded to a haro or profile sealed American BB and some Haro Fusion cranks, Fusion Pedals and a teal fusion or Group1 stem. I'd have put a profile Elite freewheel ( 3/32) like the unidirectional and better engagement with a still retro look. And, I would have gotten a silver Thomson Elite setback seatpost. Only looks slightly different but they are indestructible unlike the ones back in the day that would always bend at the seat mast. I would have went with a one inch Threaded sealed bearing headset. Still, bad bike.
yeah man, the cool thing about bikes is you can customize them pretty much any way you want. I would've used the Haro Freestyler bars and maybe Skyway mags as my only changes, but I'm happy with it overall.
