  • This pace putting distance control drill will allow you to understand the correct amount of swing and more importantly the timing of the putting swing. In this video I demonstrate no matter how far away from the hole you are the swing pace should always be the same. If that sounds strange then watch the full Putting at Pace video on how I explain green putting control and it will leave you with that all-important putting drill to practice on the practice greens.

    Very nice drill, but for those of us who primarily use public courses a bit impractical. I've yet to encounter a practice green that is (1) flat or almost flat for that distance; and (2) would allow one to commandeer that much of the green for any length of time to the exclusion of other golfers.

      Thanks for your message. My golf centre is a public centre and we would welcome you to practice this at any time. If your course doesn’t have a practice putting green, then perhaps an option might be to take the last tee time and do a little practice out on the course. The green doesn’t need to be flat either. In fact practicing this on sloping greens is actually more beneficial. You can then practice from all angles and develop better visualisation of how a putt might break. Let me know how you get on ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️

    Thank you . The 1 2 thing , was the clicking moment for me . I just started the game at 40 . I have played for maybe 5 months tops. I’m have way decent at putting . In the sense my ball is always rolling end over end . But that’s where it stops . I just couldn’t get the speed . After watching part of the video I went right to the speed mat I have . Easy and it works . Thank you again.

    This is a great drill, Chris! I added a couple of tweaks ... half a point for a lip out and minus 2 points for a 3-putt.

    Thanks Anne. Great video! I've been playing for 35 years and took some time off last few years dew to illness. I'm now 74 but putting is my weakest skill now days eyes don't help in reading greens.

    Thanks. Do you think I should have same tempo for all my clubs? i.e. all irons & driver

    • @chrisjenkinspga1356
      @chrisjenkinspga1356  11 месяцев назад

      Hi, it certainly wouldn’t harm you to try and swing the golf club at a similar tempo. This would help you to complete your back and through swings and to not rush or snatch in your down swing. Let me know how you get on

    What speed would you set on a metronome app???

    • @chrisjenkinspga1356
      @chrisjenkinspga1356  11 месяцев назад +3

      Hi, I would set your metronome at around 80 bpm. Another great idea is to find a piece of music (or a play list if your are going to practice for a long time) that matches your bpm. For example, I like mine at around 85 bpm which matches a song by The Verve called “Bitter Sweet Symphony”. I find this a great tune to practice to and it really helps me to find my tempo. Works really well with chipping and pitching too 👍! Let me know how you get on ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️

    what brand of putter are you using ?

    • @chrisjenkinspga1356
      @chrisjenkinspga1356  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi, this is a centre shafted “Yes” “Emma” putter. It was made for me by the late Harold Swash, who Phil Kenyon also worked under. He was one of the first real putting coaches, but he is sadly no longer with us.

    Keep in mind that the principles of swinging a putter are the same as swinging an iron or driver.

    • @chrisjenkinspga1356
      @chrisjenkinspga1356  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for your message. Yes they are similar, although the putter face has more influence over ball start direction than other clubs. The more loft on a club there is then the more influence path has. For example, the putter face is approximately 95% dominant over the path in start direction, a driver 85% and the % drops down through the irons meaning the path increases influencing start direction. We also try to get the ball rolling without back spin when putting, and every other club requires back spin to get the ball airborne. This again requires different impact dynamics. All of this requires fundamentals in set up and strike, so worth thinking about ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️
