    Very nice drill, but for those of us who primarily use public courses a bit impractical. I've yet to encounter a practice green that is (1) flat or almost flat for that distance; and (2) would allow one to commandeer that much of the green for any length of time to the exclusion of other golfers.

    • @chrisjenkinspga1356
      @chrisjenkinspga1356 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for your message. My golf centre is a public centre and we would welcome you to practice this at any time. If your course doesn’t have a practice putting green, then perhaps an option might be to take the last tee time and do a little practice out on the course. The green doesn’t need to be flat either. In fact practicing this on sloping greens is actually more beneficial. You can then practice from all angles and develop better visualisation of how a putt might break. Let me know how you get on ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️

    When Colin is in his stance looking down at the ball, he has to think the reason he is using this grip is because he is a relatively poor putter.

    • @chrisjenkinspga1356
      @chrisjenkinspga1356 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for your message. I’d imagine he retains more positive thoughts than this, although of course we don’t know what is actually in somebody’s head. It’s actually very interesting that many young golfers are using this method and they’ve never experienced very poor putting. When you understand the biology of muscle anatomy, there is evidence that this method may provide a much less tense putting stroke allowing for better putting under pressure

    • @mashurst5902
      @mashurst5902 3 месяца назад

      @@chrisjenkinspga1356 your insight is correct, many young players have adopted this putting grip perhaps without ever trying others. However, Colin is a young man and was a pretty good putter, in fact won a major tournament using a previous grip. As we have recently witnessed, Colin still suffers putting woes and I predict he will change his grip again because it isn’t his nerves, it is his mind. Thank you for your replay, I am a Colin fan and still believe he will reach his potential.

    Keep in mind that the principles of swinging a putter are the same as swinging an iron or driver.

    • @chrisjenkinspga1356
      @chrisjenkinspga1356 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for your message. Yes they are similar, although the putter face has more influence over ball start direction than other clubs. The more loft on a club there is then the more influence path has. For example, the putter face is approximately 95% dominant over the path in start direction, a driver 85% and the % drops down through the irons meaning the path increases influencing start direction. We also try to get the ball rolling without back spin when putting, and every other club requires back spin to get the ball airborne. This again requires different impact dynamics. All of this requires fundamentals in set up and strike, so worth thinking about ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️

    What degree of toe-hang would be best for a putter using the claw grip?

    • @chrisjenkinspga1356
      @chrisjenkinspga1356 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the message. The angle of toe hang depends on the length of putter and your posture when standing to the ball. If you tend to stand tall when putting with your eyes inside the ball, then you would require more toe hang. If you like to be more on top of the ball with a shorter putter (like me), then I would go for a more face balanced putter. This is because the stroke will be less arced and a face balanced putter will keep the face a bit more stable. Let me know how you get on ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️

    I am a decent golfer, the flop shot is my favorite shot around the green and I use it all the time even from very tight lies.My set up is similar to yours but I move less the body than you do and I use more the wrists.An other difference is where I hit the turf.If I want the ball to land only few meters away from me then , in purpose like a bunker shot , I hit the turf four-five centimeters before the ball at a very high speed.Instead if it is a long shot I hit the turf just next to the ball like you did on the video

    • @chrisjenkinspga1356
      @chrisjenkinspga1356 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the message. Yes you can certainly play those short ones like a bunker shot (as long as the lie isn’t too tight). When opening the clubface a lot, it’s a good idea to push your hands down lower (between your knees) as this squares the face (if you’ve opened for more loft)and allows for more “flip” through impact ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️

      Hi, I would set your metronome at around 80 bpm. Another great idea is to find a piece of music (or a play list if your are going to practice for a long time) that matches your bpm. For example, I like mine at around 85 bpm which matches a song by The Verve called “Bitter Sweet Symphony”. I find this a great tune to practice to and it really helps me to find my tempo. Works really well with chipping and pitching too 👍! Let me know how you get on ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️

    I tool two eighteen inch long 1/2" re bar and duct taped them to my 25 year old Odyseesy putter to add weight and stability through my putting stroke. My hands were spazmatic and I wanted to find a wag to quiet them down, allowing the hands to facilitate the natural back and forth movement of the weight. I ended up adding 3" in length to my putter which allows me to stand more upright, saving my back in the process, enabling me to practice putting for hours at a time without straining my back. Now, with the claw grip, it really has become a much more predictable and confident stroke, where the predominant movement is limited to the shoulders, which is not ideal because those too can stray off line. So now I just have to figure out that last piece of the puzzle is that cracks the code of movement. Maybe it's in rockin the lats? But over all, I think the claw grip is a huge improvement. I tried putting with 1 arm but it's not reliable. I tried right arm, and left arm. I think training with 1 arm is important.

      If you stare at the coin long enough, you’ll see a shadow of where your putter and the ball was in your set up. It’s great to get into a habit of seeing the shadow on longer putts too 👍🏻

      I tried it and can confirm it works great when you keep your eyes looking at the spot behind the ball after you putt it. My last round I had only 12 putts in the back nine! 👍
