This song was played in two different movies: first in "Hannibal" in the Florence part and in the end credits and afterwards in "Kingdom of Heaven" during the leprous King Baldwin IV's funeral.
Once upon a time the devine Creator has made an incredible creature: Man, who is able to invent an artefact that may distroy himself and mankind; but also may create a song like this. How is misterious the mind behind this creation. What a wonderful song!
Picture in ones mind a balmy Spring (October) evening at picturesque Paróquia Santa Rosa de Lima, in Costa Azul, Salvador-Bahia with this Beautiful Aria being played in the grounds welcoming guests to our Wedding. That was our memorable event back in 2008, and every time we hear this being played it once again takes us back to that memorable and joyous occasion. Lifetime memories are made of such as these.
Or.... picture a grimy street in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, a terraced house with a leaky roof and peeling paint where someone hears Vide Cor Meum without needing to capitalise random words like "aria" and "wedding" as noxious self-love overflows.
Hannibal is still my favorite movie of the 2000s and this aria is a very large part of the reason why. It set the mood for the entire movie ( particularly the scenes in Florence). But for me, it has transcended the movie and become something much greater. It has left a permanent impression on me.😊 Bravissimo Mr. Cassidy!! And thankyou!
Makes me feel like I am accepted by my savior in heaven... the gates open up and I start to see everyone I had lost in my past life , people , pets . Joyous !
sorry to hear that...When My ex wife and I met for the last time in our relationship I watched her drive away down our long driveway...This was playing on the classical music station.......Its bitter sweet to say the least...... that was 5 yrs ago never heard from her since........But I am at peace....... as the song says.
For "special" souls that focus, hear, listen, feel, and love most innocently, yet savagely, with their entire being, to the extreme exclusion of all else.
One of the most beautiful italian/latin arias written by an irishman for a profoundly violent movie starring one of the greatest Welch actors. I doubt it would be made today. Not woke enough.
The Cadets did an absolutely beautiful arrangement of this, which can be found at 7:55 of ruclips.net/video/jnZdZagaEyk/видео.htmlfeature=shared that link.
I can't stop listening to this piece.
I find it soothing playing this in the car while driving to work in the early morning before traffic. In that sweet spot before the morning begins
Tried Katherine Jenkins?
Me too
Me too, fabulous, like merry Xmas me Lawrence, So intense!
Not just a truely amazing composition but in combination with the timing in the Hannibal series an absolute masterpiece.
I think that this must be one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written!

It is QUITE theatrical.
How do you listen to Swift or Madonna after this?
Now that you know better,...there is no excuse.
Jonathan Swift?

Its because he loves a woman more than himself.

Um dos sonetos mais belos de Dante Alighieri, simplesmente sublime.
This makes me cry so much and my hairs on my neck stand up I love this aria so much xx
Sounds like high pollen count.
This is one of my favourite arias. Mournful, yet so hauntingly beautiful. I'd like this song to be played at my funeral when i die
La seconda apparizione di Beatrice a Dance nella divina commedia, splendidamente trasposta in musica.
Questo esprime il desiderio del cuore e il bisogno dell'anima e del cuore di avere amore ed essere amati da un altro.
Incredible piece of music.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Such a beautiful composition transcends language or understanding it is truly music for the soul.

tx so much for adding the lyrics, esp the note about the Florentine dialect.
I wentt to the cinema to see Hannibal and nearly everyone in the audience stayed to listen to this in the credits.

Gracias Hannibal, también podemos aprender de música mirando el fondo del abismo

Oooh! You sound "special".
That actually falls under the heading of obsession, not love.
This music speaks volumes for it's self.

"umilmente pascea" would perhaps better be rendered as "(she) humbly fed"?
È italiano antico. La traduzione corretta sarebbe Lei umilmente giaceva o umilmente riposava.
It's so beautiful yet so tragic considering the movie it comes from
