    Helll yeahhh Matt Dale! Didn't hear or see turkeys allday. I was walking out of the woods at night and a Gobbler started going off. Marked him on my map and going his way in the morning.

    A friend of mine showed me a good fly down early morning tactic. Use your hat to make it sound like the hen flying down. I always use a boonie and after my trees calls, I will wait a couple minutes and slap that hat against my hand or leg simulating the wings when she hits the ground.

    Excellent point. I’m like you in using soft tree calls, just enough to let him know that you’re there. Then nothing else until he’s on the ground. Made the mistake of calling too much a couple of times, and I’ve seen them sit in the tree until 9:00. He’s waiting for that hen that he can’t see to walk under him.

    I liked to hear you admit that bc I somewhat roosted my first turkey ever the other day and I knew hi general location I debated whether to go straight back into the woods ,in a valley and over a hill...but I thought maybe he was in that valley. So I decided to go the long way to get up that hill....he was on the trail at the bottom of that hill if Ida took my original plan I would have been where he barely couldn't see me maybe 70 yrds away 80 tops, but when I got directly under his roost tree I hit my cigarette and he flew off and hit the ground in the dark

    I move to an area that's historically been a feeding area if he goes the other way on me. If you know a spot where he's strutted in the past it's even better. That can be a good time to use a decoy.

  • @samanderson3478

    When you were talking about his view and how if you're real close and he is looking for that hen but cant see her and will think that it isnt right, can you use a decoy?

  • @randlerichardson5826

    I’ve killed several gobblers by calling the dominant hen in I make the same calls she does and she can’t stand it most of the time. Like you said Matt nothing is a sure thing when it comes to turkeys.

    Dale, I’ve been chasing this gobbler that roosts on a pretty steep hillside. I’ve been hunting him from above on a logging road. Do I need to be on the same level as the roost tree? Should I be below where there is a creek bottom? I haven’t tried that yet and may this weekend.

    Do turkeys come through thick laurel or is it a blockade because I had one coming on the other side of a laurel thicket and then be stopped

    • @zoellerzoeller105
      @zoellerzoeller105 5 лет назад

      Any thicket can & will act as a blockade to Turkeys.

      Shoot Man, I have had em run to me just for walking in the leaves. When that Turkey is Ripe in Early Season, he is Coming.

    I bought one of those mouth calls and man does it tickle my mouth. I can’t make a turkey sound to save me ass. I really do think if I try to use this thing in the woods I’ll end up all by myself. Might scare everything away for miles.
