I'm only here to read all comments from RUclips professionals that don't own a CRF 450L, but will tell this guy everything he is doing wrong! I am pretty sure Honda installed that on the bike and Honda knows what it is doing. But then again Honda is a new company and doesn't have much of a record for building solid engines.
Dankwheelie mentioned this on one of his videos. Page 25 of owner's manual =About a (minute) after the engine starts , push the fast idle knob back all the way to full off.
It's a race engine out of the 450r.. probably doesn't have all the electronics a normal street bike would have.. saving weight.. plus it's adjustable.. everything on this bike is adjustable..
When it's still in the crate un assembled does it have engine oil in it or does the dealer put it in I'm picking up a brand new CRF 450R in 10 days and I told them not to put gas but I'm worried if they do have to put the oil they're gonna put normal low quality 10w40 in it to save money.
I believe they come through from the factory with oil in them all ready.. gn4 Honda oil. Dealer just checks them when it's uncrated. They now use 10w30 now also. All should be good for ya.
Honda tech told me 10W40 till break in at least, I was thinking synthetic, Tech said no, makes the engine run cooler??? any thoughts??? Had to return my bike to the dealer, back fires and stalls constantly every time I'm down shifting or even warming it up in the driveway it back fires.
No its not on this FUEL INJECTION model. Motorcycles with fuel injection don't need chokes because the air/fuel mixture is regulated by the ecu. It measure all kind of data en then provides the correct amount of fuel/air. The only thing he is doing right now is reving a cold engine.
Gator.. go to CRF only .com and go under the 450L... The ones I got we're the zeta zc handguards.. don't know off hand the part numbers.. Everything I got for that bike came from there.. good luck man.

I'm still waiting on the owners manual, can't believe the dealer lost/misplaced it. must come with some sort of tool kit as well. Had to take the bike back to the dealer, back fires and stalls constantly, haven't had it out in the dirt yet, SUCKS. Anyone else have this same issue???
My dealer didn’t know about it either. When I mentioned the knob he just shook his head like it didn’t exist. When it’s below 50 degrees, it starts way easier with the choke
3 minutes on high idle? Not good for the engine mate, you don’t need to increase the idle it’s fuel injected...just start it give it a minute or two at normal idle then flog it 👍🏻
Grant Schelfhout straight up. I don’t even use the choke. But always let her sit on idle before I run it. Once that oil gets everywhere and it’s all warm. Just hold it flat
You dont need to have that "choke" on to cold start the bike. It's just a idle adjustment screw. The KTMs have them on their excf's. Not really a choke.
Ok it's an enricher ok lol.. everyone has the answers probably don't even own this bike.. I read the manual.. it is used for cold starts .. 50 degrees or less.. If not used the bike is very cold blooded.. and has to be started numberous of times.. starts right up the first time and I push it back in within 10 seconds. Works great for me..lol
My ktm 350excf has the exact same thing. Starts ups just fine in 30 degree weather without having to pull it. Your Honda will start up just fine without it. either way the 450l is a awesome bike. I'm glad that came out with it.
Husky 701 Enduro would be better for what you paid for 38hp, the 701 has 85 after a Rottweiler Performance kit. Dont start with weight, the 701 is extremely light. Thats a 7k bike .
Your wrong.. nobody paying msrp... It is 42hp to be correct.. and your buying a very light race engine dual sport.. who cares about a tach..lol.. this bike isn't for beginners.
bombidude Cycleworld put this overpriced toy on their Dyno, it only did 38HP. , so you have to put money into it, to make more power...Did I mention it’s over priced 👎🤮
I saw a 40 dyno and honestly i dont care. I have a cr250r with 50hp and i wouldnt be surprised if ppl is abke to achieve that wwith a few simple mods. 40hp is more than enough already but to each it own
i’d get a motor off choke as soon as possible...i’d even test starting the 450L without the choke just to see what’s possible but don’t start it inside an enclosed room...a carbon monoxide poisoning death awaits you
You did not read the owner manual as per Honda's suggestion ;) Seems like you are running the engine inside a closed garage - nice way to poison yourself.

That's not a choke, its a Idle tuner.... You can adjust the idle speed with it.

Bruce.. your wrong.. it's a idle adustment yes but also pulls out to enrichen during cold start.
No such thing as a choke on a fuel injected bike... You're just revving a cold engine to 4500 RPM's right away, I wouldn't recommend that.
My 2001 gsxr was efi with a choke
engine is not under load and that isn't 4500 RPM.
It’s just a fast idle. As the computer doesn’t have idle control.
