Yes it's heavier and slower than the European competition, but you know it's going to have Honda reliability, plus it's a couple of grand cheaper where I live...very tempting.
What always gets me about reviews on these types of bikes is when people complain about weight. Compared to my KTM 1290 SAR the Honda 450 is light. Compare my bike to a Harley Electra Glide and my bike is a lightweight. If most of us want to remove weight from our bikes the best thing we could do is eat a little less and exercise more. Looks like a great dual sport bike to me.

Awesome bike and glad to see Honda finally stepping back up to the plate. But there starting to beat this bike to death and why is nobody talking about the new X!!
So if I would get one of these, I would definitely port the head and open up the exhaust a bit so it can breathe. Then build the bottom end with a lower compression piston and then find a small turbo. Take off the heavy muffler and put on a lighter muffler and some other lightweight parts. That'll make highway stuff easier as well as for stuff requiring lots of load like a big hill or thick mud.
Andrew Imhof, I agree too. However, if someone is 50/50 street/dirt or even 40/60 this bike is a viable option. Someone like me on the other hand, into 90 percent dirt and as little road as possible to connect trails, real trails - single track preferably, I’ll take an EXC/TE/Beta any day. I’ll prefer to take a FX or Beta RE and do what it takes to Duel Sport it. Sometime I loving living in Az.
@weldingblaster1 Anyone honest knows that the KTM line has quality issues. The Honda is heavier because it comes with proper lights front and rear, that don't fall off after a month. It comes with a rad fan. The subframe is made to carry a bunch of weight on it, for years to come. Try putting a rear rack on the Husky! That plastic subframe will crack and fall off! Yes, it is heavier, but it'll last for years and the extra 15% performance I am losing doesn't bother me. The funny thing about h.p. is that the Husky/KTM 450's make less power than the Honda. Also, to rid these bikes of the lean fueling costs the same on the Honda as the KTM.
Reality sucks! The KTM/Husky 450's make LESS h.p. than the Honda. The KTM 510 c.c. motor in the EXC makes less than 3 hp more than the Honda!! Check out Dirt Rider Magazine's dyno test.
The problem is the 650L is a nearly three decade old dual sport, they're not comparable. I have an 08 XR650L and it's not even close to the same league as a CRF450L.
To my knowledge, you cant find a lighter dual sport for less money, nothing between 250-500 cc’s. The xt250 and wr250 are close but this is a 450 afterall.
I ride my 450x and made it street legal also paid way less for the bike new compared to this. Had to pay about 20 bucks to get it street legal in my state and my bike does great on trails and tracks this is an “okay” bike from Honda but KTM has already been doing this Honda needs more time to perfect this so I won’t bother buying this model until a few years from now when they fix a lot of these flaws
I wasn't about to wait either! I Picked up a 2012 450x in 2014 for $5895. OTD. Plated it and been rippin' everywhere since then. Now I've added the 18 Africa Twin to my stable! Two Awesome bikes IMO!

Agree about bad quality on 690:s atleast. About a handfull of gyus I know here in Sweden have had a lot of problems like broken gears, bad exhaust cam rollers, igniton problems and so on. The Honda costs 13.000 euro here and the 690 about 10.000.
Two friends of mine had many Ktms, and they had leakage problems, broken threads, shattering in the gearbox oil. Personally I had a Beta RR 450 (ktm engine) and I also had leakage problems and a lot electrical problems

Seriously, the MSRP is only about $1,000 more than a CRF450R and any other 450 moto bike for that matter. Also, it is about that much cheaper than any of it's competition. Someone who was ACTUALLY shopping for a brand new bike would have to face the facts: this is what is costs... as far as I'm concerned, they nailed it with this thing!

@Grand Caymans anyway speed of 80-90mph is Ok for enduro, it is more important how fast you get it
