      CycleCruza those horsepower and torque numbers are not for the bikes entering the US market my man. Those power figures were released for the bikes that are being sold in Europe, Japan, China and other countries that have very strict smog laws. We wont know the power figures for the US market forsure until we get our first shipments but the industry rumor right now is that it's supposed to have 38-42 horsepower and an equal amount of torque

    • @corvette_jake7225
      @corvette_jake7225 6 лет назад

      Ryan T this is exactly what happened with the wr250r. When the specs were first released everyone was in an uproar because it was stated that the wr250r would only have 15hp, but once it came State side we saw 20hp plus. They do this all the time with motorcycles, they release the European specs first

      why though? KTM is European and street legal and has shittons of power.

    It's almost physically impossible to have the same power as the CRF250L Rally...24hp and still pass emissions. They would have to run it so lean and choked down it wouldn't be reliable at 12:1 compression and 450cc. Honda is a multi-billion dollar company. They are breaking ground here.... 25hp is ludicrous. I like the channel brother, but you are listening to dead wrong speculation. It will be mid to high 40's easily. Mark my words..

      This was VERIFIED from HONDA :www.hondaprokevin.com/2019-honda-crf450l-review-specs-motorcycle-dual-sport
      From his blog: "Quite a few people have expressed concern on multiple forums, comment section below and on social media etc that the CRF450L’s horsepower rating on this page is a typo or incorrect. *The horsepower rating below is not a typo on my end. The 2019 CRF450L horsepower and torque numbers are directly from Honda* Thanks as always for the feedback though guys, you keep me on my toes when it comes to information like this and at times I do make mistakes so having thousands of extra eyes on the information can be helpful."

    • @bwxmoto
      @bwxmoto 6 лет назад +11

      CycleCruza it wasn’t a typo on his end, it was BS info from a Honda representative. There’s no way in the world this bike only has 25hp.

      ADV Forum - Lengthy conversation with Honda Dealer about this bike. This bloke knows his bikes back to front, including rebuilding, ergonomics, compression, suspension etc..
      When I informed him of some of the specs floating around for the bike he laughed his ass off......
      According to him the bike will be mid to high 40's BHP (Laughed that a 450cc would be same output as the underpowered 250L) "That's one hell of a restrictive metal corset" he stated.
      All the increased detail internally is aimed at increasing service intervals to 8000 - 10000km for oil/air filter. ("No point dicking about with the engine if service intervals is the same as the MX versions, what would have been the bloody point..!")
      The rear frame can take loading, "Not hauling 200kg beer loading, but extra fuel/rotopax, camping gear no worries.", also stated "Yup the fuel tank is the size of a bee's d.......k...... but honda looking at giving a 11L or thereabout option then there will be a safari option within a very short time frame." YAY!....
      Will be interesting to see how much BS has been published about this bike and what is indeed fact.... I tend to believe him more than the internet as he'll honestly slag any bike he thinks they cocked up on even if he's selling it... ("250L should have been a great bike, small fuel tank and ridiculously underpowered", according to him LOL..... )

    It's got a throttle stop like the wr450. Takes five minutes to remove. It will make over 50hp. It's going to be a great bike. My 2014 wr450f made 20 horsepower when I got it. You take the throttle stop out in 5 minutes and put a plug in it's place. Makes over 50hp in 5 minutes. Buy a Vmax by the way. Yes it's heavier because it has quality components.

    Where are you getting these numbers from man? The CRF450X that this is based on, with same compression, piston etc pushes 45 hp...

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  6 лет назад +3

      CRF450X is not street legal, therefore was not neutered. CRf450l has 3 ring piston restrictive modified air box and a heavy crank. Power is reduced drastically. Read Pro Honda Kevin's blog on the crf450l, he deals directly with Honda: www.hondaprokevin.com/2019-honda-crf450l-review-specs-motorcycle-dual-sport

    • @sumgui6010

      bro my CRF250L is 22hp and only 20lbs heavier and half the price, I don't really trust his break down - I highly doubt he got his hands on one and put it on the Dyno... I also heard 19,000 miles as the first major service (also supposedly honda verified)... lots of talk going on with this bike, but I would hope and assume the 25hp estimation is inaccurate. It obviously won't be a KTM, but I would be happy with like 35hp and 19,000mile service intervals.. hell I love my 250L just like you love your WR250 haha

    • @SINIS0RSA
      @SINIS0RSA 6 лет назад +7

      Sum Gui Honda itself has confirmed the service intervals:
      600miles Oils/Air filter
      1800miles valves
      ~19000miles rebuild

    I was in a Honda dealer in Australia yesterday and the sales guy told me two versions will be available for Australia. He actually saw it last week at Honda hq in Australia. And I've seen Facebook photos to declare one of them is in the country. Now, in Australia we have this thing called lams. For learner riders. They get same bike, but restricted. All of us full licenced riders get un restricted. The 25 horse power version sounds like a lams bike. He told me that we can buy restricted or un- restricted. And all is needed to change the from one to another is ecu swapped over. I guarantee, the un-restricted version will pump out 40-50 horsepower at the crank. I was considering a wr before this was announced by Honda but now going to wait till this is available in October. it will shit all over the 20 year old, drz. This dealer sold Suzuki, Honda and BMW. He said it looks great in the flesh and they've not done a half assed job on it. I commented on reading that it had 25 horsepower from a internet site in the states and he said that they have really strict emissions controls and they get their bikes choked up from the factory. This will be a game changer. Expect, Japanese manufacturers to follow suit.

    25 horsepower is horseshit. I have a 250 starter bike for my daughter and it has 25 horsepower. If a 450 is only making 25 horsepower that is an extremely inefficient engine.

    Also I have a friend here in Cypress California that is an engineer for Yamaha. He tells me they have no plans of pursuing the KTM, Husqvarna, Beta business.
    Mostly due to the difficulty of getting a large single cylinder to pass smog requirements. He told me that the smaller boutique motorcycle manufacturers mentioned above,play by a much more lenient set of rules then do the big Japanese companies.

      CycleCruza fair enough, not knowing the specs beforehand I can see the disappointment. But being reasonable the only way they can transform a hot motocross engine that measures maintenance intervals in hours into a reliable dual sport with maintenance intervals way further apart was to detune it. Honda is just being honda and keeping it conservative.

      Another thing, I don’t think Honda is stupid enough to put out a bike at this price point and have such little power. You’re talking like crf250l power...ya know, a bike they already fucking make. They wouldn’t release this and with such little power and expect it to sell on brand loyalty alone. That would work in their favor about as well as a lead ballon

      CycleCruza it makes no sense because its bs you clown. Yes I understand to be euro 5 compliant it needs to be restricted but not by that much, it's either got a throttle stop that's easily removed or it's simply just bullshit information. The majority of non high performance 250cc motorcycles on the market today make around 20-25. Honda aren't stupid they will not spend millions of dollars developing a new motorcycle for it to be no better than their 250 for gods sake. And at the price their asking? Common........

  • @grahamhancock4904

    Detuning doesn't change the bike as bad as people might think. It usually brings the horsepower down but ups the low end torque. So on paper it won't look as good but the power is there where street riders and trail riders need it. Hopefully the 450 will be better than it looks on paper

    I’ve been riding dirt bikes since 1973. Your facts are 100% incorrect! I own a modified 2009 WR250R which I LOVE!! I also own a very heavily modified 2006 Suzuki DRZ 400S with an RM fork on it--don’t ask it was a royal pain although it is as great as a 5 speed carburetor fed dual sport bike which needs a sixth gear can be. I also owned a lightened up modified KTM RXC 620 (They have a 608cc LC4 MOTOR). I also had a 2004 KTM 525 MXC-G Desert Racer with a six speed tranny and a stock 3.5 gallon tank. The first KTM was modified by and the second one was purchased from the same dealer in Las Vegas. The heavier RXC 620 will wheelie with just the throttle at over 9,000ft. The 525 KTM would pull a wheeliie in gears 1-3 again NO clutch was needed do do this from 2,000ft--10,000ft plus. Un-modified, HONDA’S CRF450L will wheelie with throttle only at 5,000+ft.. THERE IS NO WAY IT COULD DO THIS ON 25HP!!!! By the way the two older KTM’s I once had used racing pumper carburetor’s and they developed 50-60+HP depending on the bike. The bike I test rode today with far less modifications than my 2009 WR250R and the KTM’S I mentioned would EAT THEM ALIVE FROM 2,000-10,000 FEET!!! Only the 525 MXC-G could give it a serious run for its money. Will the CRF 450L ever beat Husqvarna 501 or the KTM 500 uh NO 50cc is a lot to overcome when bikes are fuel injected. Can the CRF 450L be uncorked so it runs so close they can’t ever lose sight of it on their heels? YES IF ALL THREE ARE RIDDEN BY COMPETENT RIDERS OF SIMILIAR EXPERIENCE. IF THE CFR RIDER WEIGHS 50LBS LESS THAN THE TWO AUSTRIAN QUEENS THEN THE CRF COULD BEAT THEM. IS THE WP XPLOR SUSPENSON BETTER THAN THE SHOWA? Yeah. Enough to beat the CRF? I doubt it and I love WP suspensions! Put a 50 lb lighter rider of equal skill and experience on the CRF450L AND IT WILL EQUAL OR MOST LIKELY BEAT THE AUSTRIANS!
    There is one area where THERE IS ZERO QUESTION AS TO WHO WINS HANDS DOWN AND IT IS HONDA BECAUSE HONDA ABSOLUTELY MOPS PLANET EARTH AGAINST KTM, HUSQVARNA AND ALL OTHER EUROPEAN MAKES--WITH A MUCH LARGER NETWORK OF WORLDWIDE DEALER SUPPORT WITH HIGH QUALITY PARTS WHICH COST A LOT LESS THAN THE AUSTRIAN AND OTHER EUROPEAN BIKES. I rode KTM in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Cost of parts, new bike quality and reliability below Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki eventually lead me to get rid of all my KTM’S what back when people were still asking “KTM, WHAT KIND OF KAWASAKI IS THAT?” I’m serious!
    Have I test ridden the new bikes? YES!!!!! I’m ECSTATIC TO SEE THIS SURGING OF THE EUROPEAN DIRT AND DUALSPORT MARKET BECAUSE NOW PEOPLE KNOW KTM IS NOT A MODEL OF Kawasaki!!!! We have MORE CHOICES OF HIGH PERFORMANCE AND QUALITY DUALSPORTS than we once did in motorcycles!!! (O.K. I admit my last statement isn’t true but it sure as heck seems like it!)
    One last suggestion, unless you personally own, have owned, OR have a family member, friend or a dealer with a bike who is willing to let you seriously test ride it I suggest dialing back the unsubstantiated “I AM THE AUTHORITY/EXPERT” rhetoric and commentary!!!! Now to be AS FAIR AS I CAN BE TO YOU, I must tell you, the 25 HP is supposedly for some European Union countries. HOWEVER, AS I AM NOT A EUROPEAN I WILL NOT STATE THIS AS IF IT IS FACT!!! ALSO I AM NOT GOING TO FLY OVER TO EUROPE TO VERIFY THE THE VALIDITY OF SUCH A STATEMENT!
    I read this and some U.S.& Canadian Rocky Mountain Honda dealers looked into it and they feel fairly certain this is correct-BUT ONLY FOR SOME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES! However, even the HONDA Dealers wouldn’t make a concrete statement about castrated EUROPEAN CRF450L’S. With 45 years+ of riding experience I know the bike I was fortunate enough to try at over 5,000+FT altitude is a mid to high 40’s HP stock bike which is whisper quiet!! It could easily be legally uncorked to enhance performance up to between 50-60+H.P.-depending on your budget and state-with an equally impressive increase in torque. Outside of Comradefornia this bike has definite potential far beyond stock. Bikes don’t wheelie at over a mile of elevation above sea level when they are built as big as the one I rode on with only 25HP!! SORRY CYCLE CRUISER BUT IN THIS CASE IT IS YOUR “facts” WHICH ONLY HAVE 25 H.P.!!! I DO NOT MEAN TO SOUND RUDE DISRESPECTFUL OR CONDESCENDING BUT YOUR “facts” aren’t even factual they are FLAT OUT WRONG ERRORS!!! NOW BEFORE YOU JUMP ON ME OR OTHERS ATTACK CYCLECRUZZA, PLEASE REMEMBER WE ARE ALL HUMAN AND WE ARE ALL ALLOWED TO MAKE A BIG MISTAKE NOW AND THEN!!!! AND THIS IS PRECISELY WHAT I’M CHALKING UP YOUR COLOSSAL ERROR TO IN THIS CASE. I’M STILL GOING TO FOLLOW YOU!!!!!! ONE TIP-(or piece of advice from a guy who was riding when rear mono shocks didn’t exist and remembers when they were new and is closing in on 50 years of riding)-ON REAL NEW MACHINES, IF THE FACTS DON’T JIVE WITH WHAT THEY SHOULD BE, RESERVE JUDGEMENT AND COMMENT UNTIL YOU HAVE TAKEN A LOT MORE TIME TO VERIFY NUMBERS OR YOU HAVE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!! Now admit your error, and get back on your bike and keep on cruising so I can follow the AWESOME CYCLE-CRUZZA who made an understandably human mistake. DUDE YOU STILL ROCK IN MY BOOK AND I LOVE YOUR YOUTH AND ENTHUSIASM!!! SO KEEP RIDING AND KEEP AND SHARING PLEASE! YOU DO AN EXCELLENT JOB SO I/WE’LL SPOT YOU THIS MISTAKE!!!!! PEACE AND HAPPY TRAILS.

However, with this update, it appears Honda made $10K gutter trash called a CRF450L, thus this update video. It's not called being Bi polar or flip flopping. @Gerry Nicholas - Also, the DRZ only has 5 gears and is *25 lbs heavier* with not all that much more power and requires a little bit more maintenance compared to the wr250r, especially the carb maintenance.. WR250r valve check is at 26,500 miles vs DRZ400 at 18k miles. The Wr250r valves are known to NEVER go out of spec either, even at 50k miles.

    I have a theory that some minor uncorking will bring this bike alive. The 250l has 20hp. I just can't imagine almost double the displacement would only be capable of 5 more horse. I just seriously doubt it but I could be totally wrong.

    That bike is marketing & engineering genius for the manufacturer. It will generate residual income far beyond what it is worth; however in this business endeavor as a single paying customer it's best to heed the strategy, apply it to your business and let them find another sucker. Thanks for the tip Cruza.

    The reason the bike has so little HP is because of European emission laws. You can take out the restriction of course, probably even somewhat legal in the states, but not doable in Europe

  • @toddkurtz7635
    @toddkurtz7635 6 лет назад

    I own a 2017 ktm500 excf. You need to understand some basics of dyno numbers. The 63 hp claimed by KTM is a crank horsepower number on a non US bike with no reed cage and richer efi mapping. A stock US ktm500 excf makes approximately 40 horsepower, give or take 1 or 2, at the rear wheel. A stock crf450r is much stronger on top than a stock ktm500excf. Having said all that, I removed the reed cage in the intake, removed the perforated screen from the exhaust, and added a JD efi fuel tuner. The bike now makes about 50 rear wheel horsepower. The Honda will not have 24 horsepower. Don't be ridiculous. I hope I have educated you on dyno numbers.

    I think this is a case where the very smart engineers at honda are saying "we've looked into it, and the 25 hp and 23.6 ft lbs is exactly prefect for non competition trail use on a bike this weight"
    And honestly? They're probably right- this bike is probably fire off tarmac... You could almost justify it over the KTM if it's going to run like a Honda. But with those service intervals? No way

  • @myronstambaugh761
    @myronstambaugh761 6 лет назад

    Those are not frequent service intervals for a bike that will be mostly dirt ridden. This is a dirt bike with plates. Regarding the weak HP: everybody is going to uncork the engine first thing which will drastically increase the HP. It IS going to be expensive which will have folks just going to other brands.

    just like ktm's, honda has put restrictions in the airbox and give it a lean map so it can pass emissions. just remove restrictors and load full power map tu ecu. 40+ hp in 5 mins of work.

  • @WatataWilly248
    @WatataWilly248 6 лет назад

    The 2018 CRF250L makes 24hp, I can guarantee that honda isn't making a 450 variant for 1 more horespower I expect the numbers to be around the 450x numbers. Coming from a DRZ owner this thing is going to have everything the DRZ has been lacking its entire life. Fuel injection, lighter weight, 6 gears and LED lights out of the box just to name a afew. Slap some street slicks on this thing and you'd have one badass supermoto.

  • @jacobrobinson5055

    As this may all we'll be true, Japanese bikes are regulated a lot more than European bikes such as metal gas tanks on KTM's where Honda's have to have metal gas tanks. European bikes are also exempt to other US regulations. Also are KTM's 49 or 50 state legal cause I'm not sure on that without looking it up. For the Honda, with a little work done like off-road exhaust, cut out airbox, reset the ECU, and throttle stop removal, you would have a really strong machine. Now I understand many people will argue this by saying they live in states or counties which require vehicle inspections so they can't "red sticker" their bikes. I understand in some places that's a problem, but up here in North Georgia where I live we don't have that problem so we can modify to our hearts content. It sucks to be under those regulations and if that affects you then definitely buy the KTM but if not and you're a huge Honda fan, buy the Honda and make into the kick-ass bike it deserves to be. That's all for today folks, I'll see y'all next time!

    You're wrong. KTM, Husqavarna, and Maico all have street legal dirt bikes. 2stroke and 4stroke. And yes 2stroke is legal for street use here in U.S. . the Maico 685 enduro is a 2stroke U.S. steel legal dirt bike in all 50 states because it meets Euro 4 emissions standards. The best part is it has 86 horse ponies and can do 120mph on the street. Has tons of low end torque and flywheel for trail riding. Electric start or kick. Comes with turn signals, brake and high/low beam head lights. Mirrors sold separately. The 2018 Maico 685 enduro is the most powerful street legal dirt bike on the market at this time. You can have one shipped to you from Germany for around $11,000. Plus could you imagine the dirty looks you'd get from all the prius drivers out there when you role up next to them on a 2stroke scream'n demon. Bet you can't show me a better enduro.

    Also the inspection intervals are a pain in the ass at those KTM, what comes on top of this is that the modern EXC 4-strokes are pretty much done after 140 hours of running without an complete rebuild...Those bikes are made for profit where for example my 2011 Husaberg FE 390 runs after 400 hours of riding just as new. And this bike has never seen more the a valve check and fresh engine oil. I can't say if the Honda takes more hours than the KTM but if it does it would be my way to go!

      If true, that is quite a failure. I dud hear that the Euro version with more strict emissions limitations would take a hit to power, but that the US version would surpass 40hp.

    That HP restriction is, as you mentioned due to emissions standards that Honda want to meet in the US AND! europe.
    Ill bet you can unplug it an get similar power to motocross version that it is based on. Like with all other enduro bikes from that are sold in europe with street legal 10-15 HP to meet emissions standards.
    Most of the times ist only: Throttle restriction, closed air box, sometimes a mapping
    >2x HP done.
    Of course it wont be street legal as the stock EXC 500 or any other unrestricted enduro/MX bike would be.

    Maybe I missed it but it seems that you forgot to consider torque. It would be more fair to compare this bike to a stock WR250r, crf250L, and DR-Z400S. European enduros/dual sports are in a completely different class. Come take your WR250 to Florida, we have some gnarly trails now that everything is wet. That would be a pretty cool video.
