I carry a Leatherman Style PS when I travel. It has scissors, pliers, a screwdriver/file, and tweezers, but no blade (except for the scissors). It is TSA compliant. TSA will sometimes want to look at it, but it always makes it through because the scissors are TSA compliant. I find the scissors serve as a perfectly functional blade when I need one. I've been carrying it for 2 years now and other than an occasional slowdown, it's never held up travel for me. I started clipping it to my keys almost a year ago, and put my keys in my backpack for security, and haven't been stopped for it since.
The aroundsquare interview was definately the best episode. Incredible. Who would of thought there was so much substance to 'manipulative' fidgets. I really hope you guys try and incorperate that format somehow into tthe future of carried away. You guys go so deep on the theory and philosophy of edc concepts i feel like its really what sets you apart and makes your content unique. That ep was the perfect example. I would love an interview style ep once a month with others in the industry. There are so many big names that i feel you would get so much more out of your brand of discussion than the countless others that chat with them. Just go through all the big idea cards as guests, haha. What's more, no faster way to grow the audience than having on big industry names wih their own followings that watch anything they appear in. This is the formula that comedian podcasters in the US follow and it can blow up their growth really fast getting the right guest on. A happy medium between epic conversations with guests people might not be familiar with like the aroundsquare founder vs types like Ben Banters who gives gold and loves coming on shows for a chat is a winning formula. While the format of eps currently is solid and works really well each week i also feel that leaving space every now and then for a unique idea for an ep segment where you guys do something unusual like build out a edc for each other or to a specific budget could be really cool as a segment rather than just quickly mentioning 'i've been carrying a brass carry' for example,at the start of the show. I think this would help avoid the segment format getting stale. Being a bit of the early days of the show and combind with the current winning format. As a new watch nerd i also want to hear whats on your wrists each ep as part of what you're carrying.. Also i feel that bernard hesitates in sharing certain items based on that it might come across as cheesy or bragadocious or it might just not be well recieved. From my point of view as a fan, if it pops into your head to share and talk about dont hesitate. Its easy just to preface that its cheesy or whatever the thing is while you share or show and tell an item but i just want to see and hear about it all through your point of views. Mikey is fearless with his show and tell even if he sometimes misses the mark, it doesnt matter because what hes saying is still interesting and its something cool to see, paired with interesting and or personal commentary. The perfect or correct answer can sometimes get in the way of simply interesting content. Sorry for all the feedback. i hope i'm not out of place sharing. Just wanted to give my opinions to help my all time fave pcast.
Dude i laughed outloud at the curse word knuck bandolier! . And I have a key organizer that has pocket clip, and my knife has pocket clip, my flashlight has pocket clip, my pepper spray has pocket clip, and i was considering a wallet with pocket clip and the thought came to my head if it might be too much. I like the convenience of pocket clip access, but now too many objects in that area is too hindering. 😅
I travel with the Mini Sailor by NexTool. You can remove the knife blade. TSA might inspect it but they won’t confiscate it. I pair that with a Nite Ize DoohicKey Keychain Multi-Tool which has an innocuous box cutter on it. Both reasonably priced.
I'd love something like a Leatherman Micra with a pliers instead of the scissor and a small scissor where the blade is I've ended up swapping to a Skeletool with a sintered replacement for the blade that I can stick a small disposable blade in. 99/100 times I want a blade I only really want a #11 xacto and I want to just have a multi tool stuck in my regular bag. The Gerber Rebar is a great tool, it's just pretty big
Leatherman has one called a PS style. Has pliers, scissors, nail file, flat head screwdriver, & tweezers. There is a CS style that has a knife. Makes sure it is PS style. I’ve been flying with it for years.
Lost a Swiss Army knife-free tool to TSA idiots because it 'looks like a knife'. Almost lost a tactical pen. No common sense with these people. Only EDC travel with stuff you're ready to lose.
@@CarriedAwayPodcast The lesson here is, (1) don't take anything you can't afford to lose and (2) have a duplicate in your checked luggage. There is no rule that says the TSA has to follow their own rules. If an agent feels like taking something, they will.

Kind of unfortunate that Leatherman retired the PS. Time to grab any available stocks left online! -- Mikey
Yep. This is exactly what I have as well. Now I understand why it wasn’t mentioned. Didn’t realize it was retired.
I have 2!

Sorry to hear bro. Yeah it really seems like a matter of luck and just not worth it most of the time 😔
