  • On Wednesday 31 January, the Welsh Affairs Committee will be holding morning and afternoon evidence sessions scrutinising the decision by Tata Steel to close its blast furnaces in Port Talbot as it moves towards greener steelmaking in the UK. The move could lead to just under 3,000 people losing their jobs at the Port Talbot site.
The evidence session in the morning will hear from Tata Steel’s Global Chief Executive and Managing Director of Tata Steel, T. V. Narendran, Chief Executive of Tata Steel UK Rajesh Nair, and trade unions.
Meanwhile, in the afternoon, the Committee will hear from the Minister for Economy at the Welsh Government, Vaughan Gething MS, and the Secretary of State for Wales, Rt Hon David T.C. Davies MP. This can be watching on Parliament Live: parliamentlive.tv/event/index...
Members are keen to examine the impact of the decision by Tata Steel on the local community, the Welsh economy and manufacturing in Wales, and the future of the UK steel sector.
