Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy!
Honestly, I'm a bit surprised we don't already have a Greece region, as it's mythology could add easily a hundred new mons alone, and that's without thinking of anything else
Greece is already loaded with monsters that would be right at home as pokemon. How do you think they choose the regions btw.
@@leebulger7112 no idea
@@thedragonwarrior5861 Worth a shot, what is your favorite fakemon in the video.
@@leebulger7112 I liked all of them
Just use the pantheon and other major gods for new legendaries
Funfact, the "Cover Legendaries" are based on Athena and Ares, both gods of War and thats why both are figthing type. But Athena was the goddess of Strategic War and that gives Owljesty the psychic type, while Ares was the god of Violent War so thats why Destrondor is dark type
plus athena was usually pictured with owls
And that's why the games are called wisdom and madness
@@sorashirobara5016 And Ares was associated with vultures. As well as dogs... and snakes... and dragons... and eagle owls... and wild boars.
@@finnover9781it would be cool to see a chimera out of those creatures
“I don’t feel like we have a shield based Pokémon”
Zamazenta: am I a joke to you
I was thinking this same thing lol.
Like… “I don’t know, maybe the cover legendary of POKÉMON SHIELD?”
Bastiodon: *cries in first ever pokémon Shield*
Aegislash 😭
Chesnaught 😭
Mega sableye 😭
This is my favourite fan region, as a big fan of Greek mythology, I think the references and inspirations are fun to guess. --Ladorber and Treelagon are based on Ladon, the dragon who guards the Garden of the Hesperides and the golden apples.
--Peavnos is also a nod to Hera, since the peacock is her sacred animal.
--Dafnos is a nod to Daphne, Apollo's intended lover who was turned into a tree to escape him.
Me too
but peavnos was also a reference to the peacock constellation
Oh good you got it too. I added a few more references he didn't get. Like the Phem part of the cyclops evo referencing Polyphemus.
Also something really cool about Peavnos is that (if I remember correctly) another sacred symbol of Hera is the Lotus!! I just about squealed when I made that connection, it’s a not so known symbol of hers.
Also progladion’s shield is a reference to the aegis (Athena’s shield that bares the face of madusa)
1:03:17 Fun fact: those "little spines" are called the Thagomizer. The name originated as a joke in a comic(where it was named after "the late Thag Simmons"), and was later adopted as a legitimate scientific term.
Why should anyone care? IDK, I just think it's a funny name with a nice story behind it.
Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
The Cancer’s claws resemble Yin/Yang because the Cancer symbol actually resembles Yin/Yang ♋️ and refers specifically to inner equilibrium.
Castor and Pollux are stars in the Gemini Constellation.
I'm a Capricorn
@@jameswaters4081 Cancer (to society lmao)
There is one thing that upsets me and it’s that he called the manticore Pokémon a Leo constellation
as an Aquarius i find it so dumb that the literal Water Bearer isn't water
@@hayothegunosaurus Nah, it makes sense when you understand the deeper meanings of Aquarius. Plus the sky, which is air, is the container of water. Aquarius is the sky that brings the rain that floods the river and feeds the Pisces fish.
Ursaluna has given me hope to one day seeing a new evolution for Houndoom based on a Cerberus. I’m thinking Houndemise or Houndespair but if anyone has any better ideas let me know.
I’m doing something with that, but the name is “Cerberott” because I’m basing mine on Rottweilers and instead of being fire, it’s now ghost.
what about Houndeath for a name? I know its self explanatory but its cool
I made one called Houndevour
Thinking "Houndread" instead. Like in Houndour, dour could be a play on "dire" like a "dire situation", and Houndoom obviously "Doom". So it would start with dour/dire, doom, then dread.
@@Libra-_- and Pikachu has a Gmax form and a Z-Move. Whats your point?
The main inspiration behind Daphnos wouldn’t be Dryads in General. But the Myth of Daphne who was turned in a tree to escape the attentions of Apollo.
As you said another FANTASTIC region by Matz
This region was simply a masterpiece, and I enjoyed every bit of it. The names were very on point, and the colors really popped. Also, the chimerion line was not a manticore, but was instead a chimera. A manticore is a lion with a scorpion tail, and a chimera is a lion with snake tail.
Ok so I’m just recently sorta getting into Greek and I didn’t know that so thx lol
The chimera also has a goat head. It still has the lion head, the goat head is just also there. And in some depictions, it also has dragon wings, and sometimes even a dragon head alongside it's two preexisting heads. And in every depiction, it can breathe fire.
Also, a manticore has a human face. A chimera doesn't.
Charon is the minor god who ferries the souls of the dead across the river of death. So Charonture's typing really really really fits, i love it!
The ice electric cow is probably a reference to zeus who transformed himself into a bull when he kidnapped europa, the electric typing is self explanatory, the ice typing could be a reference to the fact that mount olympus and thus zeus is so high up that its constantly snowing.
Heracles is just the Greek way of spelling it, and Hercules is the Roman way. They're the same person. I'm sure someone else maybe pointed this out! Great review!
Aphrodite is the Greek name, Venus is the Romanized name of the same deity.
Also a lil' thing about Poseidon and Triseidon. Poseidon beyond the seas is also the god of earthquakes and horses! So the seahorse really fits this 'mon!
Inferberus's two heads being made out of smoke is really cool and it helps standing out from Electhydra, who also has three heads
The fire starter could be partially based on Apollo’s red cows that Hermes stole as a child in Greek mythos
I love Greek Mythology so I’m really digging these designs
Me too
As someone who read percy Jackson, I agree
I was such a Greek Myth Nerd when I was younger so same lol
Phantegis could be referencing the Aegis, the shield with Medusa's power to turn whoever looked at it into stone. I feel this is portrayed through the designs on progladior's shields.
Him: We don't have a male Fairy Gym Leader
Bede: -_-
But otherwise - such a cool region! I love the Zodiac Pokémon so much!
Do you think the Zodiac Pokemon should have a symbol to show their connection to each other? Or have their astrology symbols on them somewhere in their design.
@@leebulger7112 thats what crabier basically was, at least. PM thought it was yin-yang but its just the cancer sign lmao
@@Cheshieruu Do you think something like that could be done with the other 11 but either way they look amazing.
@@leebulger7112 i mean i sure hope so! But at the same time, if the pokemon are the reason for the legend then they shouldn’t really have to be the one who should have the symbols imo- like it would be great if they did, but theyre not really necessary. To me at least! Maybe if their was a higher form /transformation of it, or an alternate form that might incorporate it somehow.
@@Cheshieruu It does not have to be obvious they could incorporate the symbols in subtle ways like spreading it out the pokemon in different spots.
28:54 fun fact: because the nemean lions skin is impenetrable the only way Heracles was able to get its pelt to wear was by literally strangling it till it either passed out or died so he could then use its claws to cut its own pelt off because it has claws that can cut through anything
Owlejesty and Destrondor are really cool, looking at the dichotomy of the war gods (hence being fighting), Athena being about warfare and strategy (Psychic being able to predict and counter the enemy’s attacks) and Ares being about actual war and the destruction, so being Dark.
You might look up a bit more mythology. Treelagon is based on the guardian of the garden of hesperides, Ladon. And the crab claws on the Cancer mon are referencing the actual symbol for Cancer.
Also Herakles and Hercules are the same hero in myth. The former is Greek spelling/pronunciation, while the latter is the Roman variant. The Roman version is more widespread and known due to...... Well we can all guess. And Dafnos is a reference to Daphne; who is normally associated with a variety of nymphs and dryads. Hence her typing.
Cyclophem's typing meanwhile might relate to the fact that cyclops are renowned metal workers and smiths. They were the ones who made Zeus's thunderbolts. Though the stick and last part of the name probably have to do with Polyphemus. The cyclops who trapped Odysseus and his crew in his cave. And was blinded by a pointed stick shoved into his eye.
My team
Charonture (Water/Ghost)
Harpiezar (Flying/Fighting)
Capricarge (Rock/Grass)
Saberning (Electric/Ground)
Venomusa (Fairy/Poison)
Inferberus (Fire/Dark)
I wonder why the champion only has five Pokemon instead of six?
He he he
And why the elite four only have four Pokémon each
I actually squealed when I saw Charonture. Oops. 😂
I love Greek mythology, and I so rarely see Charon getting any love. Thanks to the creator for remembering The Ferryman of the River Styx!
I think the wine evolution is supposed to be Dionysus the gif of wine, partying and madness
Also owlejesty is definitely Athena
Kind of wishing we saw a ghost hades Pokémon give it a bident (2 pronged trident) and an ability that increases evasion (to reference his helm of darkness that allows him to go invisible)
I really like the Pegasus Pokemon, the typing fits well!! I would probably switch electric out for Ground tho, as Poseidon is the god of earthquakes and horses (horses would cause earthquakes with their hooves). Electric/flying is amazing tho, I absolutely love the idea of a flying storm horse
Honestly I also wish the first stage was mono-Flying as well
I think one thing poketubers tend to forget to mention is which Pokemon would Jesse and James use in that region. I would like to know for the Cornera region.
As a Greek I loved watching this. It's pretty good! I also love your own region
I’m not sure if anyone mentioned this but in one story about Artemis she transformed a man who was a hunter that used a bow into a deer for his transgressions🦌
For those wondering, dafnos is based on how Dafne, while being chased around the world by Apollo, had rea (pretty sure I misspelled that) turn herself into a tree
Love this line, though it seems a lot of people are of the same missed moment kind of situation. So many of the dark and ghost pokemon have that "houndoom" skull on their chest, but I took it as a clear representation that it was like "these pokemon are evil" or "These pokemon come from the Underworld" kinda theming. And that skull being something seen on a dog already usually associated with that just made them all fit a general aesthetic to match that idea
But a fakemon Pokedex isn't a line
For a Greece based region I feel like some things that are must have are
Have the gym leaders and elite 4 represent the 12 Olympian gods
The champion based on one of the heroes
Have a side activity of a camp like they had in the anime with the name the camp being camp half-blood as reference to the Percy Jackson series
Have the evil team be related to chronos the titan of time
Have pokemon based on both the gods titan and and mythical creatures
Also I feel like a poseidon based pokemon should be a horse with the typing being water and ground because poseidon is the God of the see, earthquakes and horses
For a Japan region I feel like some things that are a must have are
Have the gym leaders and elite 4 represent the Shinto gods
The champion be based on one of the samurai
Have a camp like in the anime called camp Yokai to reference the Inuyasha series.
Have the evil team be related to Orochi the dragon serpent.
Do you see how that sounds nothing like what Pokémon would do and how it isn’t a “must.”
The Poseidon based pokemon is most likely a hippocampus. There's no need for it to be a horse with water typing since it's already a water horse.
- Palladwine may be a portmanteau of palladium and wine; palladium is a term assigned to anything, usually some kind of sacred relic or icon, that would provide protection/safety, particularly in the context of a large population like a city, nation, or ethnicity
- the shape of Crabier and Glaciancer are more likely a reference to the shape of the astrological symbol for Cancer, ♋︎, which looks like a 6 and a 9 tilted to the side
- the Caduceus is the twin-snake staff of Hermes. Hermes' Roman counterpart, Mercury, is the ruling planet of Gemini, which was probably the inspiration to make the Gemini mon the twin snakes. the Caduceus, however, is not typically a medical symbol; the reason people often mistake this is because the true medical symbol is the similar-looking Rod of Asclepius, which has no wings and only one serpent around it. Asclepius is the god of medicine; Hermes is the god of heralds, travelers, merchants, orators, and thieves
- Taurus is an earth sign; the fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Saggitarius
- Triseidon also incorporates Poseidon's hippocampi, the merhorses that pulled his chariot and are the basis of the scientific genus name for seahorses
- Owlejesty's fighting secondary type is probably a nod to Athena, whose symbol is an owl, who was a goddess of wisdom but also could kick ass since her wisdom included the purview of tactical warfare
- Menelao might be a reference to Menelaus, a Spartan king involved in the Trojan war
- Cassiopeia is the name of the mother of Andromeda, a princess that Perseus saves (and later marries)
- Learte may be a reference to Laertes, the father of the hero Odysseus
- Urania is one of the divine muses, and held dominion over the field of astronomy
- Circe is a demigoddess who was a powerful enchantress that held her crush Odysseus hostage for a year and a half and also poisoned Scylla and turned her into a sea monster
- Castor and Pollux are the twin demigods born from an egg (Zeus sired them as a swan) who are the mythological figures behind the constellation Gemini
- Cassandra is the name of a Trojan priestess who was cursed to utter true prophecies but never believed (she told basically everyone that their actions would lead to the Trojan War)
- Enea may be a reference to Aeneas, a Trojan royal who was said to be the ancestor of Romulus and Remus in Roman mythos (the Julian line or Roman emperors trace their ancestry to him) and also the ancestor of British legendary kings (Arthurian legends trace him to Aeneas' grandson); PS Enea was another name for Europe at the time
once again sorry for the big word vomit, people probably already mentioned all these
Good insights
Also Cyclophem is pretty obviously Polyphemus. They should've made him look blind though....
Hephestaus, Artemis, and Charon starters is a really cool idea.
Brandon, in case you didn’t knew, the Finaqua line seems to be inspired by Charon, one of Hades’ underlings
His job was to be the Underworld’s ferryman, helping the souls of the deceased get across the river styx with his boat
Hence the water/ghost type
I love Greece and greek-stuff mostly the food and mythology. This was hella cool. Also, I'm early so yay ig.
great region! But the water starter felt kinda odd to me... The fact that it is purely based in the water is kinda cool but it just doesnt really feel like a starter to me because of that. Also its design didnt change much through the evolutions, it kinda just literally got bigger.
Agreed. I think a seahorse that could be on both land and sea would be more fitting. It would fit a theme between cow, deer, and horse and horses are considered sacred to Poseidon.
I was hoping it would be something like a Hippocampus throughout the line
If anyone wants to skip to the evolutions of the starters here are the times
Calflaze: 1:02
Fawnee: 1:35
Finaqua: 2:10
Bullarge: 18:20
Fawnade: 19:00
Bladarine: 20:00
Hefestaur: 32:10
Artemeer: 32:55
Charonturne: 33:05
Really interesting to look at. What a coincidence that I was actually working on my own Greece based region.
If you want to be unique and different from everyone else, do more research and put things beyond Classical Greece (what most people think of when you say Ancient Greece). We have so much history and culture that people just ignore it and only focus on one thing. This is my advice as a Greek, but of course do whatever you want, just saying. Good luck with your project 👍
Gorgeous region! However, I firmly believe that the Ippoly line would have been a much better fit for a water starter.
I love that both of the legendaries are both related to Athena, since she's the goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategies, and the Madness legendary has that warrior headdress. Olygleus as the third legendary makes sense, too, since Athena was born from Zeus's head.
Yup, the Madness mascot is based on Ares, the God of War that deals with blood, gore, and destruction, who tends to be the rival of Athena
Cool Idea:
Make the legendary trio based on Poseidon, Hades, and (even though the legendary is already based on this) Zeus.
ye it could've been like a palkia/dialga/giratina thing, because Poseidon and Zeus are usually in the for front and hades was given the underworld/basically forced to be the ruler of it so he's not on mount Olympus like the rest. so 3 diff games like diamond and pearl, and platinum as an alternative but its hades
edit: nvm they did the 3, but instead based it off of athens vs sparta which i like much better tbh! and including zeus/olympus which is also pretty cool
Steeleon is so cool its like an ancient Greek themed animatronic
the bug types do please me, just got to the trapinch and i am very intruiged
"We don't have a Cyclops Pokémon"
Dusklops "Am I a joke to you?"
If you look back at the Darmanitan Madness Form, you can see a second face. The eyebrows now being a mustache, the bottom line of the dark splat around the eyes being a fanged mouth, and the circle beneath being like a goatee.
I've never seen a pokemon that isn't a bug, but evolves into bug.
I think it could work so well, tike a lizard that gains an exoskeleton and compound eyes...
This was great! Pokemon fit perfectly with the Greek Mythology theme, and I liked the trainers and Elites as well. I know the champion has the same name as the 7th Kalos Gym leader - but we can have another Olympia - they repeat names for characters in the anime. Too bad we didn't see the criminal organization of the game - then again that might have been covered on the original channel. Props all around.
10:35 fun fact, the mythical origin for the Aquarius zodiac constellation is he is the cupbearer of Zeus who Zeus "employed"(kidnapped) because he thought he was hot
I love your channel thank you for making my day happier you just earned a subscriber
“I don’t think we have a shield based Pokémon”

5. Inferberus (Fire/Dark) (if I choose Charonture) (nickname would be Hades, no duh) OR Triseidon (Water/Steel) (if I choose Hefestaur) (nickname would be Poseidon, duh)
6. Terralisk (Poison/Ground) (nickname would be Salazar, Harry Potter reference)

Doing this reply at the 10:30 mark without glancing at other comments cause well I had a thought that would be totally cool and I don't wanna wait till the end to see how plausible it may be.
The Presence of a Aquarius pokemon makes me wonder... 8 gyms + 5 Elite 4 members ( 4+ champ) = 13...
Each of the 13 could feature one of the 13 signs on thier team as an ace
Aquarius
Cancer
Virgo
Aries
Taurus
etc... with 13 being Ophiucus the snake bearer
of cours ethe only real issue is... fire cow starter which likely means Taurus inspired pokemon is the fire starter though Flint did rock Infernape so we cant rule out the idea of a gym leader or E4 using a starter heck Gardenia used turtwig, though i'm not sure if Infernape was Flint's Ace or not.
Just saying itd be a fun idea and now to resume the vid and see if the other signs show up.
29:04 “I really design its aesthetic”
😂 I meant I really dig it’s aesthetic or I really like it’s design, I merged them

37:09 mummeon yasssss! That’s what I was thinking, nothing beats the mummeon idea 🙌🏽
Zamazenta be like: am I a joke to you?
Heracles and Hercules are essentially the same being. Heracles is the Greek version of the name while Hercules is the Roman version of the name
Zamazenta and The literal SHIELD POKEMON:
Am i a joke to you
11:24 I mean, Girafarig has two brains, so a design like Leoxin could work.
Im actually working on my own region! Pokémon Blazing Bolt and Ghostly Ground. However, im pretty young and can only use pencil and paper.
The firestarter line also reminded me of the Brazen Bull. 🐮
progladior is most likely based partially on perseus because the shields have more of a medusa look and perseus used a shield to look towards medusa without directly looking directly at medusa
charonture is ghost type because it is supposed to be based on charon the person who carries you from the shore of the river of stix all the way to the fields of asphodel
1:09:30 probably owl+majesty+destiny
Cassiopea is the name of a constellation. Also we do technically have a male fairy type gym leader, Bede
55:08 seconds in, and I believe the wine mon was inspired by Dionysus, who’s the god of wine
Leoxin and Chemerion actually more based on Chimera. You can tell because of the snake tail. Manticores have scorpion stingers for tails and typically (from what I’ve seen) have almost dragon like wings. Sorry if this came off as rude, I’m just fascinated my Chimeras. Usually they also have a second head that’s a goat, but I guess not this one.
The shadeon having that spell tag on his forehead was a good touch imo
3:32. I don't know where this bird is going to go yet, but I hope it gets the steal type and becomes the clockwork owl from clash of the titans
3:58. I am disappointed
I am making my own pokemon religion based on the Greek isles, and the three big gods all have sacred birds. For Hades, it's the screech owl, for Poseidon, the frigatebird and of course Zeus has the eagle, so, not how I am currently handling it, but it's cool. Very, very cool.
Destrondor is based on the god ares, who is the god of unrestrained war, which can be associated with madness. One of his sacred animals is a vulture.
Just some hydra facts
The hydra is a snake, not a dragon
It has 9 heads, not 5
It can't breathe fire, but it did spray poison
Thank you

I was thinking of making a region based off of Ancient Greece. The region's name is Olympia, and the Games' names are Pokemon Light and Dark. the fire starter is a phoenix, the water starter is a hydra and the grass starter is a hippalectryon (half-horse (front) and half-rooster (back), including the tail and wings). The legendary Pokemon are Chaos, Apollo, and Erebus. Chaos created Apollo and Erebus (the god of light, art and music, and the god of the shadows and darkness) and it depends on which game you get which legendary you get.
The gym leaders are the Greek gods; Artemis (Normal), Poseidon (Water), Apollo (Fire), Athena (Psychic), Ares (Fighting), Hestia (Rock), Hephaestus (Steel), Zeus (Electric).
that is all I have done (sadly)
39:37 "Hercules" is just the Roman name for "Heracles." They are the exact same dude, just for different audiences.
Really liked your chrimerion take. And from a psychological take i would like to see a nature evolution on whether or not the snake and lion like each other as familiarity can breed fondness it can also breed contempt
