Comedic timing impeccable on everyone's part- even the panic-stricken Maggie! The self-consciousness of all participants was exploited for full comic potential.
Just to mention, at that time, the term " sick mind " was a sort of slang for being unconventional or for having a dark imagination. But not in the sense of being a deviant or dangerous. It was related to the term "sick humor ".
"You certainly can't think of yourselves as having sick minds, three catholic good girls from Jersey, c'mon." Why-oh-why couldn't they just have answered (truthfully) something like "Well, funny you should ask Tom, as we're about to write a song called 'Sex Is For Children' for our next album"... OR, maybe that's exactly why they even thought of a song title like that - to spite the hapless Tom, hmm? :)
