In this video, we travel back in time to when Destiny 2 first released in 2017 in order to see what it was ACTUALLY like back then. Players were very excited for this sequel, but ultimately it left many in the community disappointed. We'll dive into tons of different topics like the controversial double primary system, armor shortcomings, and the (lack of) endgame that existed at the time. This was a ROUGH period for Destiny gamers, and ultimately, it left Destiny 2 on the brink of collapse....

Another thing missing from D1 was LMGs, they didn't show up until Festival of the Lost 2018 during Forsaken with the Thunderlord quest, theb Hammerhead, the first legendary, came the next season in Black Armory. The breach launchers were alongside the drum ones competing for a slit despite being worse in every conceivable way except in pvp, where after a huge buff you'd you like 8 shots from 1 brick that had HUGE 1 shot blast radius and could be banked around corners and detonated when you wanted.

Warmind doesnt get talked about enough in Destiny 2's history. The game just wasnt fun to play and the had Escalation Protocol, Ikelos Weapons, and halfway throigh between Warmind and Forsaken they did a TON of buffs. Exotic weapons and armors changed (graviton lance, sunbracers, sunshot, tractor cannon, etc), they buffed ability and super regen, added power scaling, etc. Warmind ran so Forsaken could sprint.

I've been around since D1 in 2014. I remember the "good ole days" of D1 when we used to run the Nightfall strikes on each character to get enough Motes to buy exotics from Xur. Those were actually really good times. Everybody I played with back then has moved on, died, or been abducted by aliens. I took a couple of years off but came back a few months ago and have been enjoying the newest content. But with nobody to play with, it's not as fun as it could be. Yes, I can use matchmaking sites, but it's more fun when you actually know the people you're playing with.

I think a lot of the people saying that a fresh start in a new game wouldn’t be so bad have zero clue just how awful the combination of “huge screwup of every good part of the formula” and “also you lose all your shit from the last 3 years” was. It was a truly baffling trail down the path of “what would make things easier for us to make and balance” rather than “what would actually make things fun for the player”. Just baffling.

it feels weird to be playing a game that is on the brink of extinction once again. But this time around, i do not think the ball is in bungie's court. The game has grown old and stail. We've essentially seen a game be born in 2017 and watched it grow up to get old enough to be on its deathbed. And whereas bungie is holding onto life support, it feels like many members of our community have already turned our backs on destiny.
I guess it's the natural order of things. All i can say is: thank you destiny for all the hours of enjoyment you've given me. And i'll continue to enjoy my time with you until the end is here.

Years later after BL launched and I quit the game for a while, I went back and tried d1 and it wasnt until then that I really understood why people thought the game was complete garbage and they thought it deserved to be deleted. You didn't mention the way you aquired the kinetic legendary mod. The energy ones could be bought from the Gunsmith, whereas the Kinetic ones had to be obtained by basically gambling. You had to turn in a few of the blues(I think 4, but it's been 7 years, so maybe I'm wrong) and get a random one hoping it was kinetic.

I used to play Apex legends since it came out. With the game getting worse and worse, I switched to destiny last year. Now that I see how much it has improve over the years, shows me that even with battlepasses and such, you can show the community you want to give them a better experience. Unlike EA and Respawn, who are constantly shitting on their community. Im glad I changed games.

I never got to play destiny 2 when it was released but I do wish we at least still have the red war campaign that is the only thing that I absolutely loved. That's the whole reason I played destiny 1 was for the story it had me hooked

I only started playing the game right before lightfall dropped, and I have legitimately regretted how much of this game I've missed.
Honestly... im not the most patient gamer at times, if I'd have played back on 2017 I don't think I'd have stuck with it.
Makes me feel less bad about all the time I've missed lol.

Ive been around since destiny 1 back when it first came out 10 years ago. It was very different at that time there wasn't much to do once one was done with the campaign. The multiplayer was amazing but over it felt more bored, personally I lasted longer playing Call of duty. Also, it was much harder to obtain exotics back in Destiny 1 in 2014-2015. I would gain maybe 1 exotic every month. And obtaining legendary gear was as hard as getting exotics in today's D2 2024. Most of the guns were either green (common) and blue (rare) at that time and planet vegetation pieces could be consumed and used as currency and it was quite common back then but it was completely forgotten about and replaced over the years.
      Still playing Destiny 2

I stopped playing for over a year after some friends and I found we had nothing to do after the first raid. Even the exotic wasn't worth it.
I don't regret it, I had so much more fun playing BF1

How awesome would it have been if vet players would want to pursue a shader only available from the fireteam finder, after taking someone that never raided before on one. What a cool interesting way to offer incentives for sherpa raids

i started to play destiny with the launch of destiny 2. As a new player it was realy fun.
1 system i remember was realy good and taht was the upgrade system to make equipment stronger.
you didnt need upgrade mods to upgrades your gear.
every legendary and exotic items gave after dismantling so called legendary shard´s. im sure they had no cap because i never reached it.
and you coud use this shards to upgrade your gear out of stuf you got 4-6 shards and for an upgrade you needed 10.

I had a good exotic that u thought was great before with great stats rolls and since it was a older helmet the perk were wasted since I could not change it with the new system which sucks :)

You mean content *theft?* Now, we still don't have a truly cohesive *BASE CAMPAIGN* for free players in particular. If you were to tie all campaigns we have together it's still a totally disjointed pile of islands of content, separate and segregated.

Vanilla Destiny 2 sucked, but the campaign was fun, and the 60fps on my PC was a nice upgrade. Other than that, after beating the campaign, id rather go back to Destiny 1.
Problem with Destiny 1 is they eliminated the cross platform progression between 360/One or PS3/PS4, which we totally utalized in our house. Once that was done, Destiny stopped getting my play time and money.
So I played Halo MCC instead that sorta got patched enough at the time to enjoy it more than Destiny.

I hate the term content vault so much. Like can we stop pretending that they are holding the content for future release? It’s been years since Red War and Leviathan, as of now they show no plans to return them. We should just say it as is, Bungie took away the content.
