I watch this everytime I wonder: "How tf did I end up here liking KPop..." Edit: Everytime I rewatch this video, Joana got her research spot on (with the MLA citations that *were included at the time* ). When she said the choreography is Cirque Du Soleil quality dancing, she's 100% correct. The smallest details from stage presence to singing, dancing, member formation, synchronization, and even facial expressions are key to making a K-Pop dance performance a reality.
Good points. I just want to add one more aspect of the onset of the k-pop: Early 90's it started. Yes, that period coincides with the progress of the democracy in Korea. As the military dictatorship disappears, the internal barrier was removed. Next in 1998, the new president in Korea removed the another barrier, this time external one - imports of the foreign cultural products, especially Japanese ones, were entirely opened. Actually that was a springboard for the exports. Like or not, politics determines everything.
