    Well, I have been gifted this HOTAS by a friend (who has acquired a Thrustmaster T1600 M) and I'm gonna use it to learn how to set key binds in Elite Dangerous.
    Your review is very helpful in setting my expectations for this HOTAS realistically.
    When I can afford it myself, will (of course) move to a better alternative in time. Thank you, Respectfully Yours, R

    The closet Hotas in price to the X52 is the Thrustmaster T16000 Hotas for around 180-256 on amazon(more leading to the higher price due to demand and shipping issues). I would love to get a vkb gladiator nxt but it is only a stick and with it's shipping cost with tax to my area would make it cost around 280usd which is close in price to a full kit thrustmaster T16000(stick, throttle, and paddles if in stock) or a Logitech G x56. I wish there was more mid range hotas set ups in the 100-200 range as this is dominated by Logitech and Thrustmaster with 2-3 options and all other companies I see that make Hotas in this range are from unknown companies, bad reviews, and due to their product shipping would add around 80usd to them and thats a big no go for me. Nice vid

    They actually use 16-bit hall sensors in x52. It's just they also use some convoluted double magnet design for some reason. Which in it's turn makes this stick as it is - non linear and janky. But you can actually fix that in like an hour with a couple of small flathead screws and a drop of superglue. Also time to release some x62 or even x72 is waaaay past due. Change that stupid mouse knob for an analog ministick, chage gimbal for a pincer design, some reimagining of grip wouldn't be unwanted also. Maybe recent revigoration of this market will make them move their asses.

    @BartAnt84 2 года назад +1

    Few years ago, I've used to own Saitek X52 and for me it was a great hotas. Today it's also a good option, but IMO only as a used one.
    As for the your issues with the sensors. It's actually quite known issue with this stick. But it can be easyli fixed. Just stick extra magnets to the ones already in the base and all deadzone dissapears and the stick becomes very accurate.

    • @FalconsLedge
      @FalconsLedge  2 года назад +1

      The issue is not fixed by magnets. I have tried the mod, it does not fix the accuracy problems, in fact in many respects it makes them worse. It gives the feeling of it being more accurate, but in reality its not. I don't think there is any way I'd recommend this stick over others available at the same price point. it is 20 year old tech still being sold as new today. Fruthermore Logitech doesn't care about flight sim hardware, don't buy from a company who doesn't give a flying crap about the segment you are buying from.
      I get that you had it and didn't have problems with it. This does not make it a good product. A good product is defined when it out competes its competition. In this case it just doesn't. I would much rather have a Gladiator NXT stick only than this HOTAS. The NXT is orders of magnitude better than this thing.

    • @BartAnt84

    If you said that it was like this from the day you got it (wich I don't think it was), it would've been OK, but a 13+ year old stick has obviously lost performance over time and isn't as good as any newer one.

    I bought my x52 couple weeks ago, so it's pretty new. First thing I noticed watching this is that mine doesn't have "Flight Control System" written on the stick. And a fun fact, the momentary switches on the stick don't work properly, from the moment I unboxed it. The 3rd one from the left is (T5 to be precise), doesn't click to the up side unless I switch it from the furthest left point.
    And the HOTAS has incredibly cheap feeling. Even though it's my first ever HOTAS, the first moment I get my hands on it, I thought "huh, this is piece of crap".
    But it gets the job done. At least for now.

    Back in 2015 when my Saitek ST200 USB bought with Freespace died I did consider it but at the times I wasn't sold on HOTAS (I tended to play old-ass games that often don't even support throttles and almost never twist) and all the cons I heard about scared me off, so I went with a CH Products Combatstick which was probably the most low-maintenance stick I could afford back then, I'm only thinking of changing it because Windows 10 broke the software that did calibration and input filtering and CH Products is not bothering with their gaming lineup anymore even though they are still making them. And yes, the design was a red flag for me too. You could kind of tell they tried to make it look "impressive" to compensate the overall cheapness of the set and if my memories of the review in 2015 served me right it stil worked back then with many reviewers praising the sapacey-wacey looks.

    The nub was useful to me to slew around the Radar and Maverick Curser in BMS. Until it started to fail. And if I am not mistaken it was mappable. But I cannot remember since it is more than 10 years ago. But I am 99% sure it was.
    The Thrustmaster T16000 has not enough POV's and no 1st and 2nd detent trigger which is needed in Falcon BMS or even in DCS in certain models.
    So for all other games it might be the better option. But Falcon BMS and DCS needs a proper HOTAS with many Rotaries and POV's. Unfortunately. And the budget is a thing when comparing a 120 USD (used) X52 to a way over 300-400 USD HOTAS that gives the same functionality.

      @@sharkpyro93 unfortunately you aren't really wrong. There is turtle Beach that has a stick that is a bit better than the Logitech sticks. But the VKB NXT is still better.
      If I was not able to afford anything above entry level I'd go with a Gladiator NXT. Save up a bit and choose a throttle. TWCS if the others are too much.
      I don't recommend the Logitech stuff for anyone. I just finished my test of the X56, and while id say it may be a step up from the x52, sadly that isn't saying much. I'd rather have one gladiator NXT and no throttle than have the x52 or x56. I'd take one NXT all day over a Logitech hotas.

    The t1600m is an absolute piece of trash by comparison, you're quite deluded in this review.
    If you knew how to properly calibrate your stick, you would get super precision and no axis drift, and with Teflon spray on the plastic ring at the base of the gimbal, you'd have a super smooth motion.
    I don't disagree the VKB is a step up in some ways, although the warthog has way too many problems of its own.
    But the x52 is a popular stick for a reason - it's very precise when calibrated properly.
