If I was interested in getting a joystick for Star Citizen, and I did not have much money, what should I get? Awesome video as usual!
Dual Winwing ursas, 115 each free delivery in the us
What do you mean dead ecosystem?
How many combat sim sticks have they released in the last decade? Zero, dead ecosystem, not being developed, nothing new on the way aka dead
@ Makes sense I just wanted to clarify what you meant 👍
@Lucky_Gamer4876 you bet. Just know it's not personal, if Logitech came out with an updated stick that was great tomorrow, I'd be singing their praises.
thank you for saving me from a $200 mistake
@@RedTTHayo you have no idea how happy that makes me to save someone from this pain.
How did you get off the grippy stuff? Mine didn't become stick through use, but instead in storage. (Apparently this rubber crap can deteriorate over long years despite not being used and then "rub off" on whoever wants to use it, which is somewhat gross. I'd gladly have my throttle and stick all shiny without buying new hardware just because a worthless rubber surface turned ugly. ^^
@@縞鰺-o3c well I decided to fly to the center of the galaxy in elite dangerous one day and it took me 3 days off jumping. I picked it off a little at a time. That was 10 or so years ago
@@FalconsLedge you literally peeled it off manually? Guess I'll have to plan a trip to Sagittarius A* myself. 😅
@@縞鰺-o3c Yep! I peeled it off going to that grouping of worlds that is fairly close to the core, I didn't actually go to Sag A. I haven't played ED in ages, I prefer the SC loops.
The flight forge website doesn't appear to have a working shop or price for the device.
I'll contact the owner and let him know there is a problem.
Great review! I am currently using X56 and I have a problem with stick to base connection so the buttons just stop working every now and then. That really sucks the fun out of playing when you have to reattach the stick to base mid-flight. I have a video suggestion for you: list of controllers in different price points that you'd recommend? For example: 1) Beginner - for someone who is interested in trying flight sims but not willing to spend more than $200 2) Someone who uses X56 and is looking to upgrade to something actually functional $350 3) ~ $500 hotas 4) best the money can buy I would be super happy with just a written response though!
@@rumalus category 1 is already done posted about a month ago, category 2 coming this week, cat 3 probably 2 weeks, category 4 late Nov!
@@rumalus for your post here specifically, for beginners I've been recommending the Winwing Ursa minor, is a huge value for the buck. For someone looking to upgrade from the x56 id suggest a tad more than 350, spend 420 and go for Winwing Orion 2 If you are limited to 350 specifically and no more I think I'd go for Ursa Minor for primary hand, Ursa Minor omni for off hand, another great option for that price would be Gladiator NXT and TM TWCS. If we are including shipping the top end products outside of Winwing are tough to get a full hotas under $500. VKB offers one, the NXT and STECS, it's a good setup, but for 500 of my dollars, I'd want metal internals, which unfortunately the VKB solution I mentioned just doesn't offer. And that's not a knock on VKB, their hardware is really good. Best of the best, well that becomes very subjective. If really depends on what you do. In the top end the Winwing Orion 2 falls a tad behind in features and finish internally. The VKB gunfighter 4 is a great solution when paired with the MCGU grip. The sad part is that there isn't a left hand version, and there is not a metal equivalent throttle offered yet from VKB. They say there is I've coming, so that will help their top end offerings. For Virpil, the warBRD is I'd say if fairly similar to the gunfighter, certainly in specs and features. The gunfighter handles extensions better. The Virpil T50CM3 gimbal is the best spring/cam gimbal on the market. The downside with Virpil is that the Constellation grips have some issues in my opinion, so much so that I won't use them. Now, they do offer the new FLNKR grip, but I haven't used it yet, but I am interested. They also have the new aero grips which appear to have addressed some of my issues with the Constellation. So I'm eager to try them out. There are other options for grips like Thrustmaster, Tianhang, realism, etc. so that's the route in took. Furthermore, what you select really depends on what you do. If you fly helos definitely go for the T50CM3 if you are going spring/cam. Best dead stick experience I've had. But then you get into the force feedback options, and force sensing options. Software is a big deal in FFB, right now id say VPFORCE has an advantage here. FFBeast and Brunner are VERY expensive. Moza has decent hardware from what I can see, but their software is a bit behind. They are closing the gap so we will see how that goes. We also have Winwing coming out with a FFB very soon, Virpil and VKB sometime in the future. Force sensing I recommend if you fly majority F16, otherwise stick with the spring/cam or FFB. Tianhang is a great bang for your buck option here, things like realsim is an option if you want to spend a fortune. WW offers a Force sensing unit, it's ok, but I recommend if it you want to go force sensing, best to just go with a Force sensing base from the beginning.
@@FalconsLedgeThanks for taking the time and writing such a detailed answer!
@@rumalus it's what I'm here for! To help folks out!
That looks great and the price it is offered at...wow. The time to print and assemble the components seems like this is a labour of love as opposed to make me rich. They should however give the arduino a unique identifier when they upload the code.
@@cammy9r yeah I agree on the Arduino thing

yes i like your video
Im getting into helos.. got the Logitech rudder pedals and find them cumbersome and quite heavy.. also the toe brakes arent any fine and are quite unconfortable to use.. would be the VKB smoother and more compact? i allready own a NXT Gladiator EVO and a SEM and i love both of them to dead..really happy with VKB so far
@@sparrowlt the VKB pedals are very accurate, and easy to use. They will help your helicopter flying quite a bit over the Logitech. And if you don't need your brakes even better! One great thing about them is that they are made for use in an office chair unlike most replica style pedals
@@FalconsLedge I tought the toe brakes would be important but the more i use the logitech the less covinced i am because i use an office chair...my cockpit is a desktop so i cant "bolt" anything down and i do move the chair with moving the pedals .. and in the other hand i dont know if its the logitech or me i find hard to fine tune the helicopter inputs with them..for planes i dont use them as until now the NXT Gladiator twist worked quite fine for that and i was even begining to fly helios with that twist.. but it became clear pedals were necesary

Ok so I need to ask because I tried looking into it and I have no idea why mine didn't come with any tool to handle this. What do I use or get to just remove the springs or if I ever have to replace them? I'm very confused with that and I don't want to break it just trying to remove like 1 spring to convert the left stick to a sort of throttle? And I can't seem to find anything that would show or explain how you do that with the Ursa Minor?
@@RaccoonRezillo I used pliers
@@FalconsLedge I worry on breaking it with pliers and hard to find ones that be small enough XD Aside of doing that, I really don't want to have to go back and forth putting spring on then taking it off saying I'm screwing it to a mount and switching between 2 games that I want it on or then off... Star Citizen I want it on, then DCS I want it off. Is there a possible way to just code it or use some sort of driver (which I can't also seem to find one that made just for it) to make the left axis up and down be as a relative control so it like the throttle would go up more from it position more you push up and then when it centers, it stops moving the throttle? Would that be possible or is it just easier to keep on removing and adding back that spring every single time I switch games? XD
@@RaccoonRezillo they have these well for the lack of a better term ... Zit poppers from Walgreens that could easily remove and reinstall them

I have this stick, not true. The stick has served me well for the time i had it. The ergonomics do have some faults but its a good option in the 230 dollar range
@@JOHNREBELIV ah yes, the "I've had it for a long time, so it must be good" fallacy. I don't come to this conclusion just by pulling it out of my backside. I've used this device, and all of its competitors. This thing is an absolute pile of crap, and nobody should buy it. And what's worse is it's made by a company that hasn't created anything new in this industry in a decade. Don't invest in hardware from a company that doesn't give a crap about your hobby. Maybe it was a good buy when you bought it, but there are better options today in that price range like Winwing ursa and gladiator NXT. Lasting a long time isn't a feature that sets devices apart in this industry, it's a standard, almost every device at this price point and above will last that long. There is nothing wrong with you liking it. Lots of people like a lot of objectively bad things, and that's just fine, but my videos are out here to help people avoid potholes like this device.
@@FalconsLedge I will admit, there are options leagues better than the x56, and possibly cheaper, however calling it a complete pile of crap is just plain wrong. Also the bit about it being overpriced is sorta wrong? Idk I picked it up for 200 bucks tops brand new and it worked fine out of the box My point is, it's not a total piece of junk, That's fine if you don't recommend it, but calling something it a total waste of money and time is just a bit wrong imo.

@@object1084 I totally get it man, you have a device, you see a video saying don't buy it. So you watch, and disagree, not because what I'm saying isn't true, but you like the device, and because this is the best thing you've used for an extended time, and I'm sure you researched your purchase (a decade ago) you believe you have the best bang for your buck. And at one time you did . The problem is, Logitech bought the company that produced the x56, and did absolutely nothing with it. No innovation, no improvements, no new products for the ecosystem. Why? Because combat sims aren't mice, or audio devices, by comparison it's super niche, and so Logitech doesn't give a crap about combat sims. It's a dead ecosystem. I created my channel years ago to help people get the best bang for your buck. And I seek to help people avoid problematic devices Like..... Products in a dead ecosystem from a company that doesn't care about their hobby. If you want to know where my opinion. Just bought one for 140 bucks, upgrading from a keyboard and a PS2 controller strapped to my chair with a cord and a tablet with Touch Portal which I have to see through an oculus quest 1. I've seen a comparison between this and the X52 and I liked this more, can't afford anything else for hobbies unfortunately, even if they get my brain trained like DCS. If I won't have fun with DCS offline (not gonna go online) I'll come back, else whoever you are and you care and I still didn't edit this, lmk. Edit: So the stick is, indeed, not very ergonomic, but all the buttons are there and it's only a matter of time until you get to know how to use them the best. The overall materials of the stick are fine for the most part and I don't see problems with the spring if not the stick not "centering"/"zero-ing" but nothing I would worry about since you can set deadzones, it's very accurate and the stiffest spring is also very stiff and I will probably change it later. About the throttle I've had a chance to open it and the construction is very very cheap on the inside and is very easy to break the side knob which sets the throttle stiffness, however is as easy to break as easy to fix but still... don't tight it too much to save the hassle of unscrewing 10+ screws on the base later on. I really like the plastic and the switches are so satisfying to use, it's full of buttons and looks like they keep spawning the more you look at it; you may get overwhelmed but for the most part you get a lot of buttons for binding everything you need. It's an HOTAS I've bought second-hand, it was around 130$ and for that price and maybe 40-50$ more I wouldn't put all the hate the video's publisher has indeed put, I'm having much fun and I like the style, looks and feeling. I'd say instead it's worth it, but if you find other options that you like more or better deals well... make your choice!
@@smoothie3d46 if you like it good for you, lots of people like bad products, and from the sound of it you got a great deal. I hope it serves you well.
@@FalconsLedge For sure! You've made a very good review, I can see you're an experienced user, but some people can't get anything better for the price or their location, and sometimes it's just personal opinions. There will always be something better, but it's also good to enjoy what you have or you can get. This said keep up the good work, love your content.
@@smoothie3d46 this is where you are wrong unfortunately. The Winwing Ursa Minor can be purchased for the same price as a retail x56 and it is 100x better. And this is a big reason why I do this. I want to help people get the best they can for their money, no matter how much they spend. I hope you have a great day!
@@FalconsLedge yes you're right, in the US. I live in Italy but whoever asks me for an hotas outside of my country I'll consider this option, I searched for this and couldn't find it anywhere unfortunately. Is it only the stick? Seems pretty solid anyway
@@smoothie3d46 the stick costs 115 and has a Omni option so can be used as a throttle
I need to replace my first ever stick but want to get a higher tier HOTAS, when will your review of the top end HOTAS be released? 😀
@@TWC_BullDog October, how much are you looking to spend
@@TWC_BullDog and what to you fly
i do still plan on buying this, as i have used my friends x56 and it felt fine flew for about a hour. Ofcourse i do plan on upgrading when i get used to flying with HOTAS (the x56 will be my first one)
@@CoastalAtom don't, it's not worth it. Speaking as someone with infinitely more context and experience with basically everything in the market don't. "Flew fine" is only your observation because you don't have experience with other cost equivalent sticks. Buy Winwing ursas, or an Ursa and a TM TWCS, it is infinitely better Don't buy products from a company that doesn't care about your hobby! They haven't innovated or come out with any new combat sim hardware for over a decade
Built the Laserwing miniFFB with RMD x8 Actuators and Odrive Pro drivers instead. Much sexier👍
I've got the standard version of this one and what do you mean by the detent on the axis? Just the natural stick-to-the-center of the spring? Because I don't use the springs in mine, and there's no detent in the center.
There is, you are just used to it. once you fly with a stick that doesn't have it, you'll know what I mean.
Software flat is terrible, well made, great handling.
i love your setup man!!!
@@MonkeForce23thanks its all different now that I am running a NLR cockpit
can attest, garbage tier stick and throttle - throttle is somewhat better than the stick but still not great. 300 bucks down the drain
@@lotuschamp7796 agree,I returned the one I tested because I was so disappointed
