For the F-16. I have a friend who run a Virpil setup & he told me that he use the side button of grip as TMS Left, Down, Right & depress on the mini-stick as TMS Up ( he setup the mini-stick as his TDC ).
I have a throttle with the tdc, do not really a solution for me. You can actually click the wheel left and in, so those can be used as the DNS, but honestly doesn't work great
@@FalconsLedge yea. Its a shame Virpil software doesn't allow a quick-swappable between using the mini-stick as Axis or digital button like in the case of VKB MCG. Even with the MCG Pro I can make the mini-stick into digital button ( POV ) whenever I play Western bird & change it back to Axis whenever I fly the Ka-50
@@richarddo7881 the Virpil CM3 gimbal is the best on the market. But the constellation alpha is not the best, the MCGU and the WW F16EX are both better.
@@FalconsLedge I really like the 'wheel' on the Alpha grip, so if Virpil listen to your suggestion & make a new Alpha grip with a HAT switch replacing the lower button on the face of the grip, + having a swappable mini-stick module then I'm sold on Virpil. The way I see it, the Alpha Prime offer no substantial improvement over the normal Alpha except having fancy LED light which I couldn't care less. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why they make a grip the same price as an MCGU but offer less functionality :/
@@richarddo7881 I also don't think the alpha grip is good ergonomically as a side grip. Considering the grip portion of the stick is based on a center stick grip, this was a mistake in design mostly made from what appears to be asthetic reasons
Currently mounting this as center stick setup with extension to use in VR and with motion. Would be awesome if they support mounting to 3030 and 4040 aluminium extrusion more easily. Also got collective, throttle and ace predator pedals (went crazy and all-in). Loving the quality but cannot compare to others because its my first set. Good to hear your comparison. thanks.
Yeah I look forward to the comparison. I've used all the top end high production sticks. I drilled two holes in my monster mount plate and made it work.
Not sure if this helps but I made my own extra long 4080 desk mounts, Monstertech essentially, to use with a 200 extension, and bought @qr4rigs for my CM3 base and CM3 throttle. Works really well for me. You can detach from the extrusion in about 5 seconds. Rock solid.
The grips sounded a bit hollow, I love my mcgu but missing an equivalent left stick. Hoping for the scgu oder mcgu left or a Virpil iteration that has changeable modules like flnkr for the alpha prime series
Damn that Z-twist does look insanely light! How have you found that during normal use? I did see some other people say this was a deal breaker, and it ideally needs to be locked and pedals used instead.
Nice video mate. Glad i found your channel. I want to upgrade my TM Warthog hotas. I want to use an extention as well. I want to have best base (Virpil i guess) and a metal stick (winwing). I fly warbirds, ka50 and F-16. What would be the best combo?
Virpil has the best gimbals, VKB MCGU is the best grip followed by the F16EX from Winwing. If I were in your shoes I'd buy the Virpil CM3 and use your TM f-16 grip
@@FalconsLedge thank you for the quick reply. I also watched your nice VKB MCG-U video as well. I have very small hands unfortunately. I will give the TM to my brother so i need to find a new stick. @@mayacakil I have some qualms about the constellation alpha as a side stick, but it works pretty well as a center stick. You could always pick up a second TM f-16 grip
Having stuff mounted to your desk permanently greatly increases the footprint of your play space and space is a premium in many parts of the world, much more expensive than things like a joystick.
The majority of mounts are removable not permanent. Also, I look for the ideal scenario, your scenario may vary. The experience between mounting and not n mounting is absolutely huge. The CM3 is designed to be mounted. If you aren't mounting get the warbrd. It's also better mounted, but at least it's designed for desktop use. It should also me mentioned that the CM3 does not come with a desktop plate at all
I hate how the Prime brought the ministick to be forward of the input cluster. On the standard alpha the face of the buttons and ministick is more even. This makes the ministick much more uncomfortable to use on the prime, and is my biggest complaint. Transitioning from the side-grip hat to the face buttons and crossing over that ministick is much less comfortable.
I think it's a bad design overall as a side stick, and the face is not well designed at all, as it's centered on the stick and it should be oriented slightly toward your thumb. It's the difference between building something that has a particular asthetic and something that is functional and ergonomic.
@@FalconsLedge I completely agree. it's a clumsy and lazy design IMO. I am currently running a MCGu with an adapter and standalone blackbox with a Cm3 gimbal for my center stick.
@@casoblantly that is actually what I'm considering doing myself. The MCGU is the best grip on the market, but the CM3 is definitely superior to the Gunfighter
