I just read about him in the newest issue of Rolling Stones Magazine.
Put perfectly. If not for Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters, we would just have had the loss of Kurt and Nirvana and all the things that could have been. Dave/FF's energy and positivity were the perfect antidote to that. He needed to make that first record, and we all needed to hear it. Just like with "But Here We Are", it was communal grief therapy with good-old fashioned guitar riffs and screaming. ❤

Oh Momma Grohl, I cannot imagine what strength and faith it takes to tell your child it’s ok to drop out of school and be a rock star. That must have been so hard, especially being a school teacher. I’m glad she did though because her son is a beautiful soul and a badass musician. Congrats to them both in the doc.
How cool is this, while traveling all over the country she asked him to keep an eye out for a good place to retire. Seattle he said!

I remember Alex Lifeson having an intelligent discussion with his whole family about the same thing while around the dinner table. He was I believe 14 or 15. It's on film; look it up here.
She gets it. She knew her kid was supposed to be on that path and nurtured it. She's awesome.
In the book she talks about how hard it was, as a teacher, to sign the papers for him to quit school. However, she also knew that music was in his soul and she wondered what kind of mother she would be if she tried to take that away from him for a piece of paper. Most of the moms in the book speak to the heartache of watching their child give a part of themselves to music and the fans. It's a good book, I highly recommend it. If you do the audiobook you can hear her read it and a couple of interviews between her and Dave.

I watched an interview with Taylor Hawkins a couple of years ago & he said that Mamma Grohl is the best person ever to have backstage at a show! She’s supportive and funny and gets the beers in when needed!!

“Then when I joined Nirvana...” Man it still feels so weird to hear someone say that. Even as a fan since 1991.
I love the fact Dave never rested on his laurels from Nirvana. Even when he made his first Foo Fighters album (he played all the instruments and literally recorded it himself), he purposely did it to disconnect it from any Nirvana references.
And ever since, he rarely ever mentions Nirvana unless asked. His career and talents speak for themselves.
Just think he could have been a Heartbreaker.
Dave is such a great guy. He’s just as great in person as he seems in interviews. I’ve met him several times. After a few minutes, you forget he’s Dave Grohl, the biggest rock star in the world, and you think you’re hanging with one of your goofy buddies who loves music as much as you do.
He remained graceful and low key about his Mom and the Green Day contagion...
One of the better Fallon interviews I’ve seen. He seemed to really let his guest speak with little to no interruption through this interview. It felt like a normal conversation. Well done.
I was sort of anticipating Jimmy telling a Paul McCartney anecdote but Dave was probably at the same party so no need.
His questions also feel way more natural and reactionary than usual. He's not just jumping anecdote to anecdote looking for the biggest laugh, he's letting interesting stories be told...
@@jonnbridges I'm sure he's trying to work on his interviewing skills, prob his greatest weakness compared to the other late night hosts but he does other things the others won't even attempt. I like all 5 network late night shows and just watch the ones that have the best guest that night or catch the RUclips clips later.

My dad and his friends went to high school with Dave Grohl. My dads' close friends even used to jam with him! It's crazy to think that guys I grew up watching play who were putting me on to Dave and all the music of their time are somewhat tied to that, and I still love hearing their stories. Dave is one of the most authentic, REAL people in the world. I just watched a Jim Carrey documentary, and Jim said something very profound. He said that all people are “actors”, and they put on an act every time they leave home because they want to be perceived by people in a certain way. So they “act” in a way which they believe will cause others to accept and subsequently “like” them.
Dave does not act. Dave is always Dave, and we still accept and love him. I try to live my life as Dave does. Be more like Dave.
