    For $1,600, I'm expecting this vacuum to pick my kids up from school, and run other various errands for me. It's the least it could do at this price point. Great review.

      I've seen in comments they are not made the way they used to be; after the 90's and early 2000's, they cheapened manufacturing. They're still good vacuums, but they're overpriced and require a lot of touch-up, professional maintenance (kinda like performance sports cars).
      I recently got a model that's only a few years old, all the same basic features as the one in the vid just not bells and whistles. But I got it refurbished for relatively cheap and 2-year extended warranty. But it did suck up half the salesman's shoe even with untied laces which was really impressive. See how it goes.

    I bought a house 10 years ago where the original owners/builders had passed away and the children left many household items as part of the sale. A Riccar N2000 was part of the lot. It looked old, but loved, like everything else. I was going to donate it but the central vac system (probably as old as house so 40 years+) died so I used it in a pinch. BEST VACUUM EVER. I have a Dyson V8 for quick daily pickups, and a new central vac system, but still after 10 years nothing beats that Riccar. I've joked that we bought the Riccar and got the house for free. Never had a single issue with it, that thing will suck the color right out of your carpet. It's a "buy it for life" vacuum, so while the price is high, when this one goes to be with the great vacuum in the sky, I'll be collecting cans to buy another.

    This review actually started me down the path that ended up with me getting one of these at our local shop, used and refurbished for *well* below the chest-clutching prices on the sticker. I was initially planning the Hoover Hushtone, but looking into the reviews and stats on this one, and handling one in person to get an appreciation for the build quality (including the guy at the shop pulling it literally open for me so I could see how it was built internally) I was sold. The build quality is extremely good, the performance is top-shelf, and parts are readily and *locally* available should something go wrong. I plan to have this one for 20+ years. That it did a good job cleaning my carpet goes without saying. We have a lot of sand and fine dust that blows and tracks around where I live, and my Dyson simply wasn't getting it out of the carpet, I could pull the fibers apart and still find a significant amount in the lower portions of our medium-pile. The Riccar was able to remove that. My goal, generally, is to reduce my wife and my allergy and sinus issues by better deep-cleaning. Have to see if it can do that in the long term!
    For anyone who hasn't played with one of these, think of the step between, say, a $100 generic from your local big box store, and a Dyson Animal 2. Then do that step AGAIN above the Dyson. For comparison, my last vacuum that this one replaced was a DC-26 that had served me for quite a few years, and I actually really like overall, and will still readily recommend for someone who can't afford the price of something in this kind of range. This is just *that* much of an increase beyond it.

  • @PowerSax911
    @PowerSax911 5 лет назад +67

    Also, for those shocked at the price (it's a lot, like absurdly a lot), your local vacuum shop will give you a discount off the sticker price.
    Another benefit of going to a local shop is that they might have a used one at a steep discount. I got a Brilliance ($1000) for just $400 because it was used. A local store worth their salt will clean and fix up any issues before it heads to the floor for sale.
    Mine picked up a bunch of grit after having new carpets installed. This thing is amazing and agitates like none other which is where its cleaning ability really comes from. Would recommend a used one. Riccar is definitely not worth the sticker price but is worth every penny if you can get the price down to something reasonable.

      We quite often will sell the previous generation R4P which brand new about 6 years ago was $1499, we will clean it up for you replace the strips, filters and whatever else it needs for $299, we are clearing out the old style R40P now at significant discounts, that one doesn't feel quite as balanced as the one in the video but still easy to use nonetheless and has many of the same features

    • @philsalvatore3902
      @philsalvatore3902 День назад

      I have one too. It was at a thrift shop not running for $7. Only thing wrong was it was clogged and the overload protector had tripped. I cleaned it up nice and use it from time to time. We also have Huskies (god I love Huskies (: ) . The one thing I have noticed is that the way the hoses from the nozzle base up to the back of the bag chamber are attached causes clogs. The hose sections have the female end upstream and the male end of the next section fitted into the female end. This creates a lip that catches hair and before long you have a clog. Really frustrating. The Vibrance design is a copy of the old Panasonic Jet Flo design, a great design, but Riccar implemented it poorly. Panasonic hoses don't jam like this. They are better fitted and there is no lip to catch stuff and create a jam.

    A note on the Kenmore… the two motors is one dedicated for suction and airflow with the second motor running the brush bar.
    The only difference between the 31140 and 31150 are the height settings, brush bar design, dirt sensor, and belt vs beltless/direct drive.
    There are not two suction motors on the Kenmore like there is on the Riccar

    • @One-Day-After-Another
      @One-Day-After-Another 3 месяца назад

      Another youtuber found that the Kenmore had excellent suction at the cleaner head... but didn't do great on low pile carpets at all... In fact he said it was horrible and he would only recommend it for medium to higher pile.... I wonder why though? A vacuum with that much suction at the head should clean it all.... I don't get it... that's the second time I've heard that watching reviews about the Kenmore..

    • @philsalvatore3902
      @philsalvatore3902 День назад

      @@One-Day-After-Another Interesting. The brush roll is really large diameter on them because the drive motor is built into the inside of the brush roll. It might be the brush roll shape is wrong or it doesn't spin fast enough, don't know. The idea goes back to an early 2000s Panasonic canister vacuum, the MC-P600 sold only in Japan that had a power nozzle with the same sort of direct drive brush roll. I have one. It's a strange machine.

    Reason it deep cleaned carpet better than other 2-motor uprights, in addition to better brush roll design, is the brush roll motor doesn't just turn brush---it has a fan like an Oreck or Kirby. Only Tacony 2-motor uprights (so far) have this feature. The triple row of brush roll brushes combined with higher brush roll speed also mean each carpet sweep equals 2 to 4 sweeps with anything else. In other words, 30 minutes cleaning with the Riccar equals the brush action of 1 hour to two hours with any other company's dual motor. Big time savings.
    We also do our own testing, and S40's always pick up more dirt than we put down.

    In this instance, a powerful vacuum with a very stiff bristled brushroll, have you ever looked at the debris in the bag to see if the vacuum is removing actual carpet bristles when it scores so high (135%)? Hard to imagine a vacuum scoring significantly more than 100% over and over, and convincing myself it just keeps finding more and more dirt.

  • @philsalvatore3902
    @philsalvatore3902 День назад

    Yes the Kenmore Elite has "two motors" but it is not a tandem air machine like this Riccar with a dirty fan motor spinning the brush roll and blowing dirt into the dust bag in tandem with a conventional clean air suction motor pulling suction on the bag chamber. The big Kenny has one mondo suction motor and a separate brush drive motor built into the center of the rotating brush.
    Incidentally Kenmore had a tandem air canister vacuum in the late 1980s called the Ultra Vac. It was only sold for around six months and they are exceptionally rare.

      I used one of these for my cleaning business and they suck at cleaning floors! It is great for surface cleaning but not good for deep cleaning. They have a model called the auto x boost which is supposed to put the brush further down but the dealer I went to never told me it did that. Super disappointed in it won’t ever buy one. They’re sturdy yes, but cleaning and filtration sucked. No shut off switch and auto height adjustment isn’t good.

      My Riccar Radiance Premium R40P is total junk. My 1997 Kirby G4 with Kirby HEPA bags pick up massive dirt and dust my $1600 Riccar leaves behind every time. Riccar uses cheap imported parts that don’t fit, expensive to replace and cost of ownership goes up really fast. For me, Kirby is the best value and awesome performance year after year. Riccar truly sucks on all levels except for all the dirt and dust it leaves behind. Go with Kirby.

    If you haven't found out by now, the aluminum wand will lose its firmness and get loose/rattly with use after only a few years; it's not very secure. You won't lose suction I don't think but it is extremely annoying to have a wobbly tip. (I got a refurbished older/more basic model with most of the same tech just without bells and whistles and noted the fiddly wand. I got a new one with my purchase.) I do need the deep clean on carpet between two cats and battling fleas right now. The model I have is also a lot lighter, I estimate by at least 5-6 lbs or more.
    Also they might be a bit needy in the maintenance category in the same way a performance sports car might.

      Rainbow can't compete with good modern canister vacs. Water filtration vacuums are a gimmick. Not only are you losing 40% of your suction by pulling debris through the water, your only filtration comes from the expensive HEPA filters in the vacuum.

    Great review! I have to say though, your airflow numbers seem low from what I've seen online. I have an older simplicity tandem vacuum that looks virtually identical to this and found it difficult to seal to my airflow box due to the rug plate design, but once I got it sealed, I measured just barely shy of 100cfm with both motors on, and 76 cfm in hard floor mode.

    • @Blackheartvacs
      @Blackheartvacs 5 лет назад

    This is a great alternative to a Kirby if you want versatility for tools, though my Kirby is still running. But i also have to keep it upstairs because it is so heavy. So. I bought a Dyson Canister vacuum for the main floor because ot is mostly hardwood and a few area rugs. My reconditioned Kirby and my Dyson together cost as much as that single vacuum, so no thanks on that.

    It is always worth checking out your local dealer for deals and specials and the service you get through a dealer is second ro none versus getting something through amazon where you may or may not get good service and even so you end up shipping your machine out to who knows where and they just send you back a refurbished unit and no more warranty after that.

    I think that vacuum is the best dragon you could possibly buy what's a bag but you know how you said direct aermotor I've always thought that if you said something or drop like a big wood chip or a large now I'm afraid that the nail get walked in there where they would stop the fan from moving so the motor we didn't turn it off fast enough would sit there and hum until I smoke and caught fire like one of those HP videos where he destroys vacuums so yeah Fair Motors in the past sorry 😲

    Very impressive vacuum for sure. However I think that two motor design doesn't have any benefits. I have measured Vorwerk VK 135 to have 100 cfm from the cleaning head and suction was also very impressive. Much more than the Riccar. Vorwerk uses only one motor.
    It seems to me that Riccar has superior cleaning head design to deep clean well. Well done video like always :)

    • @VacuumWars
      @VacuumWars  5 лет назад +1

      Yes I tend to agree that the extra motor was probably less important than their head design, but still both were needed. I would like to test one of those Vk 135! It looks like an interesting vacuum.

  • @JohnMcMahan5
    @JohnMcMahan5 5 лет назад

    Great video. In the instructions the Kenmore says to use the lowest setting to deep clean. I wonder if that would make a difference. That's the only thing I can think of besides possibly the brush roll being inferior. What do you think?

    If it still has the standard noise maker that is added to all vacuum cleaners to artificially make then obnoxiously loud then I don't think it's very luxurious.
