When I was 14, I picked up The Island Story (1987), a 2-disc compilation celebrating Island Record's 25th anniversary. I was educating myself the history of rock and pop. This song is on that collection, and it was my introduction to glam, years before I discovered Roxy Music or got deep into 1970s Bowie. And I thought of Sparks when I first heard The Last Dinner Party. It makes total sense that TLDP would cover this unlikely 1974 hit.
This has to be one of the best cover versions I've ever heard. Absolutely brilliant from start to finsh. I mean, just listen to Emily's guitar playing ffs!
Brilliant sound, excellent vocals and your lead guitar work - take a bow! Your cover of ‘Call Me’ is amazing. Blondie created that hit 40 years ago and you have done Deborah Harry & the band incredibly proud. We will be watching & waiting for more musical genius!
@@madi469 only made a few comments. Don't hate them, but they are mediocre.....and as there is still freedom of speech (for now) then I will say what I think. Fellow lesbian here haha 🙋♀️ Just out of curiosity, have any members of TLDP ever openly talked about being queer or is it just presumed from their songs and such?
It's a nice cover, but the original version and the remake that Sparks did with Faith No More in 1997 has more guts. That said, I hope that the album will be a big hit for TLDP. 🙂
Thought of this Sparks song first time I heard their track “Sinner”. Played both songs back to back for my wife and she was like “meh… maybe”… I feel slightly vindicated to see them do a cover of it.
Video editing gone mad, and the studio audio lacks guts. The recent live, audience shot Dublin version with Abigail in the black top and red dress is much more enjoyable and gutsy - or the besuited one at the L.A. Fonda. You get to see the dancing. Face it! they're much better in live continuity - in every way.
This is FITTING...'cause I knew these Ladies "HAD IT" from the GET-GO!! Is it just a coincidence that I'm featuring SPARKS on my next Radio Show?!! There's definitely some kind of "Faye Vibe" @ work here!! 😉
Excellent choice as a cover. I always felt like Sparks never got the recognition they deserved, kinda like TRex. Well, TRex was big in England but not so much in the US. Anyways....great song, great performance.
Such a difficult song to sing but Abigail absolutely nails it perfectly
But she still can't reach those high notes as good as Russell.
I think they all nail it personally, but as someone who loves guitar…fuck me Emily Roberts, that absolutely rocks! 😮
I agree.
that guitar is absofuckinglutely magnificent too
@Gerardus-lo4ks Emily F**king Roberts. Great guitarist is she?
I never thought I would love a band this much in my lifetime
I never thought anyone would top Siouxsie’s cover of this but here we are
A show with Sparks too would clearly be the best thing ever.
They're just such accomplished musicians.

Yess! Gets better the more (and louder!) you play it! 😎
Perfect choice for them…makes me love em even more
Best thing to happen to music in a long, long time ❤
Girls just wanna have fun! Passionate & hitting the spot 🤘🏼💃🏻
TLDP & Sparks...A match made in heaven ❤
Fifty years after the Kimono My House release. Fantastic! Abigail and Russell are kindred spirits.
Wow, Abigail sings this so well and the whole band rocks! Just preordered the new album too.
EMILY FUCKING ROBERTSSSSSSSSS!😍😍😍😍😍😍
She rocks 🤘

What a brilliant combo!
A great job of covering this fun song by The Sparks.
I remember thinking of this song the first time I head TLDP, so happy to hear them cover it! 😍
Yes !!!!!!!! . this makes me happy ! i was depressed as shit but now im alive !!
You guys should totally do some covers of The Darkness. Something like Love on the Rocks With No Ice would be sick!
Came here because Sparks themselves reposted this video! GREAT cover! Can't wait to buy this!
Love both TLDP and Sparks!✨🌹
Perfect cover as always
😊❤❤ BELLA. CANCIÓN 💯❤️🤗 SALUDOS desde ECUADOR 🇪🇨
You pick the best songs to cover! 🪩🌈🎉
A full live album would be awesome
Can't think of another current band who could do this justice. Well done.
😳
Justin Hawkins from the darkness
Think some more
I love this band so much!
What fun. Also showcasing the stage costumes of the originators thru the ages.
Wow!
Great stuff! Thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is properly excellent
Everyone complaining about Oasis tickets and there's me with TLDP tickets all happy and content. Bring on Nov 17th!!!
I now want to hear Sparks covering Nothing Matters .
This x 100000000000.
What a great cover - love Sparks but may I say this is better than the original. Go girls
You are right.
Esta versión es una muy buena interpretación. Solo es eso. Nada más. Y me gusta. Y escogieron bien ese grandioso tema de la fabulosa banda SPARKS.

This band is quite often likened to sparks and while I see the influence, it’s really nice to see their own take on it and style shining through :)

Super montage 🤩
Indeed. Quite incredible.
The amount of downvotes I got on Reddit for comparing TLDP to Sparks is wild. Glad to see this cover.
Not surprising, really. Sparks’ version is a masterpiece. This is karaoke from a really mediocre band.
@@Donkeyshed681 why you watching it then 😂
@@matthewmolson2736 Not mediocre at all. Ok it is a hard song to do but they nailed it.

The way I can officially say I've seen this live at OSL 🙌
TLDP never miss.
Great. Like it
No doubt they did Ron proud !

Abigail has a good voice and sounds does like the lead singer of sparks. Ron mael. And does well in the version.
