George Adams was a monster! Those records with Mingus and McCoy Tyner were thrilling. Unfortunately, most of the Adams-Pullen Quartet recordings were on European labels (it was the fusion and quiet storm jazz era at the time) and so they mainly played in Europe. They recorded one album for Bluenote and Adams recorded a solo album for Bluenote as well. Unfortunately, Adams, Pullen, and Danny Richmond all passed away within months shortly afterward. There's a great live album of the quartet with John Scofield. I think it's on Soulnote or Black Lion.
Oh right!....That's why the great Charles Mingus hired him! What we have here are two completely different styles of tenor playing, what you prefer is you business!
L.A. Sax instruments make great lamps, bong pipes and spittoons. If you want a saxophone, though, it's still Yamaha, Selmer or Yanigasawa. Keilwirth, B & S, and Dave Guardala have fallen from production. The rest of the field is Taiwanese Crap-ola...
Although their styles were different, George was easily the equal of Joe, but Joe became much more well known. This was partially because he didn't die, but also partly because he wasn't black. Poor old George.

Yeah, we know how popular free jazz is with both black and white Americans. They just can't get enough of that stuff. They're hungry for it.
Use your ears , engage your brain, deep breath, And then make your comment. Peace and happiness Brother.

George Adams, a household name? LOL! How about Taylor Swift a household name?
Well, Mr Winslow, it would be a more just world if that were the case…
