    Interesting debate in some of the comments below. What I hear in listening to this piece is 3 very competent tenor saxophonists, all playing very well. Perhaps Heller's style of improvising is a bit more 'modern'. I would be very happy to be able to play as well as any one of them.

    interesting to hear the harmonic development as we want from the first to the third sax.then further development into 4th voicing s in the piano solo..interesting !!!!

    Besides....we all have our tastes and opinions when it comes to Art....and no one...I mean No one has the right to attack someone for their opinion....It's all relative.

    You gotta me more open to music than that man. Jazz is always evolving, changing, moving forward. To say that you prefer the first solo of the others is cool but saying the others aren't jazz is completely ridiculous. I'm sure glad you weren't my teacher lol.

    three different styles , griff has the great tradition, roman was clean, but Heller had the most harmonic stuff together.

      Well if that's your criteria the pianist. Has a bit of mid 60s chick

    Actually, the younger they got the less they worried about their diaper exploding due to diaphramic pressure...thus the intense tone production and volume !!!!!

    cool cool.... but why do they all play on links?? no me gusta

  • @MasterBlasterRGR
    @MasterBlasterRGR 12 лет назад +2

    I did., and I listened to the chords...did you? Back when Griffin started...he played like this. He still does w/ no evolution. Heller can play that solo note for note...but Griffin can't Heller's. It's about expression not only within the chords, but abstracly outside the chords as well. They're all great...I prefer the last player Heller and do play like this myself.
    Listen to the keyboard during Heller's solo...on the money chord-wise
    Yes, I did listen.

    This is supposed to be a "Blues" piece... Griffin played a Blues....The other guys( except the beginning of the second tenor soloist) played something else.They also threw in every note they possibly could in every measure...including the pianist...So...where is the language of JAZZ?Well....that's modern Jazz in Europe these days.And if you notice the 3rd tenor solo the most out solo got the biggest hand from the audience.

  • @MrSaxman50
    @MrSaxman50 12 лет назад +4

    Do my Homework? I know the history of Jazz Jackoff...I taught it at a University.And I know what I hear...I don't hear "Blues" in most of what the last cat was playing...and the pianist...You can call it"Modern Jazz' to cover it up all you want and then get arrogant to boot...and throwing in every Note as possible is NOT what music is about.Listen to Dexter..I believe he was around 1958-80...ask Cannonball..Sonny Stitt...It's about MUSIC....Not technique ..and Jazz Language.I play myself.

  • @dso02

    Good stuff from all three of them. But the last guy played a lot of harmonic licks and textbook licks. Most modern players today play just like that. Textbook as hell lol. Most don't have soul or language. Just a simple call and response, and spacing within your solo. Even some professional players just play licks and don't have no damn soul.

      I'm not saying don't use licks, just make them your own...like make yo own voice with them

    • @PatrickManzecchi
      @PatrickManzecchi 6 лет назад

      Please don't put somebody down who is trying to make his point and find his own voice, especially at younger years. At least he doesn't try to copy Griff or Schwaller. And what you mean by saying no soul nor language but licks? It's like saying Bob Berg nor Michael Brecker got any Soul in comparison to Lockjaw Davis, Dexter, Zoot or Scott Hamilton. Enjoy the freedom and various possibilities in Jazz!

    Is it a crime I'm wanting so bad to put my hands on an old link like those???
    What does sound like a crime, robbery in this case, is the price tag they
    have nowadays!!!
