  • One of the most valuable practices I ever experienced was time spent jamming to Jamey Aebersold play-alongs with my friends in high school. Thought this might be a fun and helpful to try with you.

This tune is great to work on ones comping when u solo, then improv - has enough changes to keep interest - now, to learn that interesting Head... Perfectly 👍🤠🤘

So many gems in just the 1st 2 choruses. As I transcribe your solo I'm once again struck by how different instruments have different approaches. These ideas wouldn't have occurred to me on the bone, but damn, they're so musical. Really helps to free you from the trap of what lies better/easier on your own horn. A real eye opener man, thank you!

A student of the bass here, and I can't believe I missed this first time around. This is truly brilliant! Feels like I'm sitting in with a serious PLAYER! And what a player you are. And humble, not to mention generous to a fault, too! Thanks, Mr. R.

Thank You, Thank You Thank You!!!!!! This has been "THE BEST" sax lesson ever!!!!! Thank You Bob for all you do man this actually made a crack in the wall that I've been trying to get past for years!!! This is fast enough that I don't feel over whelmed, and slow enough that I can hear what's happening and make adjustments after each pass.
    Again Thanks "B"

I love this, like you said it's easy to get lost in my own echo chamber, thanks for the nice ideas Bob...this song seems to bridge a gap between traditional and more modern, you really nail the changes. we should all do this on every tune.

Always a favorite tune to blow on! I was lucky enough to be at NTSU when Joe Henderson (1985?) and Michael Brecker (1984) came to do clinics and I was in 7th heaven both times! I was going to post the RUclips link to Brecker playing Recordame at his appearance, but now I can’t find it - bummer. To us young sax players in the audience it was a mind blowing experience!

Been working on this song with my sax professor, and this is a great help. I have a good time practicing the changes, but sometimes it gets boring on my own. It really does make a difference when you can hear somebody else's playing and try to bounce off of that once your chorus is in.

  • @jamesavison

So helpful, to practise starting a solo well picking from the last guy and to finish well to allow the next soloist room is so valuable. I was taught to try to pick up a lick from the previous solo; each of your sections were so distinct, easy to follow (I say easy, not easy, just lots to go on!). Thanks Bob - please make more of these trading vids, they're excellent.
