If you find yourself among the pines of East Texas, then you need to visit Lufkin. This piney-woods town is packed with great things to do and lots to eat.
If you are looking for a dose of history, then look no further than the Texas Forestry Museum which tells the story of the Texas lumber industry. There are tons of exhibits featuring old equipment including an old steam engine used to transport wood from the forest to the sawmill.
If you’re looking for edible history, then head to Atkinson’s Candy Company - the home of the Chick-o-Stick. While they no longer offer public tours of the factory, there is a small candy shop tucked away in the corner of the warehouse where you can buy all sorts of sweets, fresh off the line.
Whether you’re just starting your day or looking for an afternoon pick-me-up, check out Standpipe Coffee House in downtown Lufkin. It’s an unexpected and truly hip little coffee shop in a historic building. For something sweet, go with a signature “Standpipe Latte.” You can thank me later…
Ray’s Drive-In has been serving up delicious burgers since 1959. If you’re starving, go for the Ray’s Special with melty cheese and grilled onions. They’ll even serve you in your car - the old-fashioned way.
Now if you’re looking for piles of delicious smoked meat, then look no further than Lufkin Bar B Q with its tasty brisket, ribs and all the fixins which includes their famous fried rolls. Once you had one (or a dozen) of these, traditional white bread just won’t do the trick.
If you’re looking to spend time outdoors, then the pines trees are calling your name. Just down the road is the Davy Crockett National Forest, one of four national forests in Texas. For a short or long hike, step onto the 4C Trail. It runs for 20 miles, but you don’t have to do all of it.
If you’d rather travel by water than by land, seek out the Neches - Davy Crockett Paddling Trail. Paddle the river surrounded by nothing but towering pines and all the East Texas beauty you can handle.

Born and raised here in Lufkin. Can't believe you didn't go to the zoo! Not many towns our size have one.
It is a great zoo. But we can't include everything
@@TheDaytripper I believe its the largest zoo per capita in Texas and maybe the US
Same here. The zoo was a great place to visit. The city itself ain't much to look at though.
Headed to Lufkin in a couple of days. LOL, I'm visiting EVERY place in this video. Fried Rolls??? Are you kidding me! 😋
I think they're the only place that does this. I've NEVER seen it at another bbq joint before. They're so dang good too. Dip them in the potatoe salad, just a tip!
chik o stik the one of the great candy concoctions ever
Totally agree
I was born and raised in Lufkin, so I was very excited to see this pop up on my feed lol

The fried biscuits at Stringers are addictive! The ribs are mine & my husband's favorite. Haven't been to Ray's in years, maybe it's time to get a burger & onion rings 😄
👏👏👏👏 encore, encore for your singing, Chet
I love being from Texas!!
Lived in Lufkin my whole life so far. You can visit, but better be carrying while you’re here. And stay by the businesses.
I never been to Texas but, one day I'll visit and become a day tripper just like Chet👍
I used to climb a fire tower in Yellowpine. I always wanted to buy it but it looks like it's been gone a few years. And just like the tower at the museum, it was full of bullet holes.
Welcome to Angelina County ☺️. Lufkin native ❤
Im 2/3 through and still thinking of those ribs!!😊
Great food in Lufkin especially their barbecue, pork ribs, etc.

Raised in Lufkin 😊. Too bad you missed the zoo… it is awesome for a small town ❤️
Lufkin looks like a culinary paradise! Even Gordon Ramsay would be impressed by Lin BBQ. Those fried rolls look like donuts though.
My first visit will be watching the Dallas Cowboys game. How bout dem Cowboys!!!
Like umpa lumpa sketch, 😂
Thanks for this one as well!. I love candy and I love the Willy Wonka reference. My girl's fam lives in Willis and it's beautiful but I need to explore east texas more :)
I moved to lufkin in 2022 and ive been here for a while and the only place ive been to in the vidoe is Ray's. I will say they are probably the best burgers in the world.
I can't disagree.
Love this show. Love Lufkin too
I'm in lufkin now crazy to see this putting lufkin on the map all ready
🤠
Nice seeing uncle Eric in a RUclips vid
Lufkin has a stench about it
That's the chicken plant
Great video! Wasn't Lufkin Industries founded out there? I might have mentioned them and their oil field pumping units; the nodding donkey's they were famous for. But otherwise great!
Rays looks KILLER!!
Should have stopped by Keltys & Hoo Hoo St for some late night entertainment. 🤣
Oh no not the Northside
@@charitableheart23 At least he didn't get lost down Rivercrest Road?
Or Cedar Grove...at " Elaine's"!😂
You know your from Lufkin when you get this comment....😂😂
Nice video, makes me miss home lol. Especially loved seeing Lufkin BBQ and Ray's, grew up eating both, my dad was actually a fairly well known guy for Lufkin before he passed away in 2009, he was known as the Kirby man, he and my granpa owned/ran the local Kirby Co. vacuum cleaner shop downtown near the fire station, so anyone local thats been there for year will maybe remember that place. It closed awhile ago after he passed because he held it together, and the main reason I left Lufkin, though I love to visit for some of the restaurants I grew up eating with him, especially Ray's. I also ate a lot of Lufkin BBQ with him, not sure if its still there or good, but Chen's was a favorite of ours, he always got General George's chicken. Also, I think you should try and feature La Unica's, either the sit down restaurant or the Express, because they have some of the best al pastor and other Mexican food in Texas, and I used to live in San Antonio, so I've had some amazing Mexican food there. Thanks for a nostalgic time.
Only showed mostly places to eat. Yeah that's about par for the course for this town.
Hi! You should come to Huntington tx!! It's right by Lufkin! Also I'm in Lufkin almost every day
