Is rinsing, washing, or soaking raw poultry before cooking necessary? No. Rinsing, washing, or soaking is not necessary. Proper handling after purchase will minimize the consumer's risk of exposure to bacteria. Rinsing, washing, or soaking raw poultry does not destroy bacteria, but does increase the risk of contaminating other foods, utensils, and surfaces. Proper cooking will destroy any bacteria present on raw poultry.
I'm sorry washing and rinsing is necessary. Been doing it for years.. When u don't wash ur meat. Remember Butchers do touch ur meat without gloves...smh
I have actually heard that you can spread more germs than kill that way. Pieces tend to be washed before packaging but always wash a whole bird, specifically the inside before cooking it!
Hi lady Au-tumn Ra .I hear you.but I love to cook but more natural spices and some sauce will add color.i haven't used s crock pot for long time.but must say your braids in your hair are nice.just saying.

+Kubwa Nanzuri I cant, I just cant. I don't care what the USDA says, meat factories are not clean. Its okay to wash/rinse your meat. Older southern women have been washing and frying chicken for years and NO ONE has been dying because of Germs and bacteria from the meat. Only careless people who aren't careful about food safety and people who aren't very good in the kitchen have this concern. Its probably because they never watched the elders, or they didn't have anyone to teach them. They always whine and complain about washing chicken. In some cultures people even soak/ wash the meat with lemon juice first. The USDA's dietary guidelines change all the time, they used to want you to eat butter everyday, and don't even get me started on the food pyramid. Look the bottom line is, cook your meat all they way through. Carefully wash your meat over the sink, don't let it splash, and bleach the areas your meat or its juice touched afterwards and you will be fine.
Why, why, why, do people wash raw meat? There is absolutely nothing in water that will kill germs or bacteria and there are air born born bacteria in the fine mist that comes from water being put over your meat. Hold your hand next to a running stream of water out of your spigot for a few seconds and when you remove your hand it will be damp. Now if you were washing meat all that fine microscopic bacteria filled water mist would be spread all over your kitchen. As my grandfather use to say, only a dang fool would wash raw meat and only a total idiot would wash it in his own home. I was raised on a farm and on the rare occasion that we did have to wash raw meat we did it outside in a tub of water or under the hose. If you can't deal with the liquid on raw meat from the stores then soak it up with paper towels and get it off the meat the same way. But washing raw meat is stupid and you're gambling with your health and the health of others in your home. Here is what the CDC has to say: CDC estimates 48 million people get sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die from foodborne diseases each year in the United States.Aug 19, 2016
I would stick them in the fridge overnight and then through them in the crock pot. You can through them in if they are a little frozen but I wouldn't put them in solid frozen. 8 hours will be fine! They may be done a little before them but they will not dry out or anything!
That's what many sources say to do now.. that washing it splashes germs "all over" the kitchen.. But what if the meat packer had a bad day and threw it on the floor, or spit on it or something? Eh, I rinse mine with a light stream of cold water and bleach the area in and around the sink afterwards. I've read some crazy stories about meat and produce packing on Quora that convince me to YES, wash it all! But supposedly it's okay if we don't.
This is pretty easy for me being student, just add in the morning, and dinner is ready in the evening if I put it on low. I have to ask, did you put any liquid in? water or stock or anything? also I think Im gonna add onions and sliced bell peppers.
you dont have to add any stock or any water because the chicken will provide juices . if you want you can even add just a bit of water to cover the vegtables but not really needed (:
Hello. I would just like to know how long to cook this for on low? Do the potatoes and the chicken require the same amount of time? I got all the ingredients needed apart from franks hot sauce. I suppose I can find that somewhere. I can get those chicken thighs for 5 dollars a kg at the moment, but i wonder can i cook them from frozen? Or is that unsafe. I'd like to be able to leave this for 8 hours on low and have it done but not overdone in that time.
Oh I see. Damn I wish I had a slow cooker with a timer to turn itself off, as am out the house for 13 hours at a time sometimes. But anyway I am going to do this today, will put it on high for 4 hours though because will be here all day. Maybe when doing it on low it might be an idea to brown it on the stove first, not sure how that would work with chicken as it tends to stick to the pan, but anyway seems like a really easy recipe and i got everything apart from the hot sauce :)
You didn't add any fluid? Okay, so I have potatoes on the bottom (old crock, not wide and low, but narrow and deep) with frozen thighs on top. In 4 hours on high with no liquid, it will be done?
LOL I agree. How could she take that meat right out the dirty meat plate and not wash. She said it spreads germs but thats why you sterilize everything directly after washing. And I dont see how that meat can be seasoned maybe she added more seasoning during the break and didnt let us see, thats way we think she cooks healthy.
I do not know if you ever get on here and check this video anymore but I just stumbled across it today and I was wondering if you just put the potatoes and chicken in the crockpot? Or did you put any type of liquid in the bottom going to attempt to make something like this today just customizing it a little bit to my likings but needing to know if there needs to be any liquid added thank you if you can respond to this or if anyone can
Recipe looks great! Sadly we can no longer use salt in the house. I may try this anyways. My hubby is one of those who doesn't care for 'crockpot meat,' so that is a great tip!
I'd be pissed if I sent her a Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker and she kept referring to it as a crock pot which is a rival Brand. It's like referring to her free Honda Accord as a Toyota LOL
flavorless and bland, that looks disgusting i must say, garlic onions and paprika are your friends......so is garlic powder, and for gods sake skin the potatoes
I give every Video 30 seconds
If you talk to much I move on to the next video
“SHE JUMPED RIGHT IN AND STARTED COOKING “
THANK YOU
Brytney Turner so true. I’m starting a channel about cooking and I just jump right in bc ik I hate watching all that talking in beginning lol

I think you are a champion for encouraging families to eat together and eat real food rather than garbage.
You made things easy with the chicken. Now I can't wait to get my own Crock Pot. Nice kitchen! Thank you.
As I have responded before, washing it actually spreads chicken germs over your whole kitchen where as the cooking does kill anything on it;).
Looks good, and I need to get going on my crock pot again!
I have actually heard that you can spread more germs than kill that way. Pieces tend to be washed before packaging but always wash a whole bird, specifically the inside before cooking it!
Thanxx for this video, i just got my ingredients frm Walmart. Using crockpot for the first time
You look so depressed. What's wrong, baby?
Hi lady Au-tumn Ra .I hear you.but I love to cook but more natural spices and some sauce will add color.i haven't used s crock pot for long time.but must say your braids in your hair are nice.just saying.
The chicken looked pale when taken out at the end of the video. Was it fully cooked?
Yes it was! I didn't brown anything and crock pots don't really add that on their own;).
Exactly

Thanks Kev! Food safety people have been saying not to wash it for years! Whole birds are different!
Thanks for the heads up.
Get yourself a bigger crock pot love. That chicken dinner looks really yummie. x
Now that I have a house full of teens, we have a bigger crockpot;).
Looks good, I would recommend browning the chicken before adding to the crock pot, more flavor and looks better.
Need a close up next time. So we can see how the chicken looks.
Nate's point of views it looks bad from here
😂😂😂
wow thats like really easy thanks a million !
But when did you wash the chicken?
close up of the food would be nice , maybe a shot of you cutting into chicken and potatoes ? and the end meal . i bet this was yummy !!
Exactly my thought!
Don't you wash the meat?
That's what I was wondering
+Karen Watson right 🤔

Love your vid
I was saying the same thing! How can you cook meat straight from the store packaging, not good
your video may just saved my marriage lol...I can make dinner now!!! thank you!!!!!
Soooooo no cleaning the chicken? That's what we're doing now???? Just cooking straight out the package? Lol
That's what many sources say to do now.. that washing it splashes germs "all over" the kitchen.. But what if the meat packer had a bad day and threw it on the floor, or spit on it or something? @@flexitarianbeanqueen Wash ur hands after the fact. You're in your Kitchen. Not a restaurant.
it's a good idea. Make it in the morning, and come back at night with a hot meal. Beats whey protein shakes in terms of taste anyday.
no water needed?
So may sound dumb but I say out my chicken to thaw out and it's still frozen can I set it in water while peeping everything else.
The minute I dont observe the meat being washed with lemon juice or vinegar i dnt watch the rest of the video
Looks good and easy..Thank you..
Would of been nice to actually see the end result, that was a waste of 3 minutes il never get back again 😡
I would put a lot more spices but still looks good
Was this bone in thigh are with out the cook time is different why I am asking
Those are bone in thighs!
This is pretty easy for me being student, just add in the morning, and dinner is ready in the evening if I put it on low. I have to ask, did you put any liquid in? water or stock or anything? also I think Im gonna add onions and sliced bell peppers.

I was always taught to put the meats at the bottom or is your way that the spice will stay on the chicken by having at the top of the veggies?
John D I put my meat on top. Then the drippings will flavor the veggies on the bottom!
We didn't get a close up look of anything
wash that chicken
What did you say you serve this with? I can't quite make out the first item, though I'm good with the frozen broccoli.
Thanks.
I threw some potatoes in the crockpot too!
She said a bagged salad or broccoli.
Looks great Thank you sweetheart
GREAT VIDEO

Ummmm are we NOT cleaning the 🍗????????
I tend to put a little but it really doesn't need it.
Wash it!
@thenerdmom hi how long does this crockpot take to start boiling or get hot ? Thx I have the exact pot (brand new) and it takes hours to boil
It should be warm within like 10 minutes. Boiling varies.
I am doing this now, i had no spicy sauce so I'm using soy sauce and winchester sauce. I hope that will work out.
You didn't add any fluid? Okay, so I have potatoes on the bottom (old crock, not wide and low, but narrow and deep) with frozen thighs on top. In 4 hours on high with no liquid, it will be done?
lumpilulu If they are frozen I would add like a 1/4 cup of liquid to get things going. I don't know that it will be done in 4 hours though...
TheNerdMom Thanks.. I had added a little chicken stock and cooked it for 5 hours on high and it was great! : )
You don't rinse the chicken first?
What is the name of the cutter for the potatoes? Also did you add water? Thanks :-)
it is a crinkle cutter from Pampered Chef. I didn't add water.
did u add oil??
I didn't add oil at all!
tHANK YOU!
You wash chicken because you don't know if someone in packaging didn't drop it on the floor or forgot to wash there hands.
The magic of televison?? on RUclips??
That's your problem how does that taste if you only add salt and pepper and spicy ketchup that is not seasoning and you need to be out behind bars
LOL I agree. How could she take that meat right out the dirty meat plate and not wash. She said it spreads germs but thats why you sterilize everything directly after washing. Shouldn’t you have taking Your chicken out of the original package and wash it before you season it up to put in the crockpot ..
Not according to the FDA. You end up contaminating your kitchen more than you wash off. Whole birds, yes, but not pieces.
@@NerdMomsLife thanks for replying appreciate it😊
You need to show eating it at the end. Dont leave us hanging now.
that shit ain't done...
done done n delish mmmm
Why didn't she WASH the CHICKEN off before putting in the pot.
Oh god wash the chicken please
I do not know if you ever get on here and check this video anymore but I just stumbled across it today and I was wondering if you just put the potatoes and chicken in the crockpot? Sonja Ferrell A little liquid can be good to start with.
You don't need any liquid..THe crockpot seals in all the moisture..That's a result of the cooking process.
I was all game until she started seasoning the chicken without washing it 😑
I can't get over you not washing that chicken. Turned my stomach, sorry!
I don't care what anyone says, I rinse meat AND potatoes. That's really lazy
Recipe looks great! Sadly we can no longer use salt in the house. I may try this anyways. My hubby is one of those who doesn't care for 'crockpot meat,' so that is a great tip!
:) u really need to get yanked down behind that counter for some real slow cooking

I'd be pissed if I sent her a Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker and she kept referring to it as a crock pot which is a rival Brand. It's like referring to her free Honda Accord as a Toyota LOL
You should've browned the chicken first....it looks too pale!!!
Looks nice but not the salt, it's so bad for you.
This video sucks! You didn't even show the food up close or cut into it. You didn't clean the chicken either smh.
No water at all???
No, there is so much moisture in the chicken! You can add just a little bit if you are nervous.
ForTheRealGirl
Thank you very much!
I did add 1 cup of water
I was nervous I guess
But it turned out well and now I have a lot of chicken broth
um...
Im not sold.
did you watch those potatoes that meal must taste like E coli and mud
Luk Fletch Yes, the potatoes were washed.
Who wants to watch someone wash potatoes? We're here for a quick recipe. Thanks for getting right to it, ForTheRealGirl.
u dont wash your meat? thats nasty
flavorless and bland, that looks disgusting i must say, garlic onions and paprika are your friends......so is garlic powder, and for gods sake skin the potatoes

I have never washed my chicken. Never got sick nor has anyone else in my family gotten sick from not washing the chicken. Cooking will kill any germs.
That's downright nasty!
Same never been sick.
