i had also to change disk image cd/dvd to disk image on the other disk if someone is stuck as well, but thanks man was so helpfull in the installation for me
Worth noting: the cores you reserve for UTM will be 100% loaded no matter the real load at UTM. That means your nice and normally cool mac M1 will be super warm and take a big hit on the battery. And it might also be bad for the hardware in long term use. I had high expectations for UTM but have now realized that I will not be able to use it for my development because of this extreme cpu load problem.
This is strange. I've recently installed Windows 11 ARM64-build on M1 Air. It was hot like a frying pan during installation (especially near F1 - F12 buttons) but after booting into system mac was doing fine, temperatures dropped and the Windows UI was responsive. BTW, in UTM I selected 4 cores with 4GB of ram. I think there is a bug in UTM linux virtualization that prevents of cores sleeping.

Once the installation and setup is successful, what will be the best way to stop / shut down the VM? "Shut down" from within the running VM, or from UTM "stop"?
Thanks. It worked great for me. However I can not share a folder. After selecting "Spice Client Folder" it appears the error "Unable to access location. HTTP Error: Could not connect: Connection refused". Can you help me with this? Thanks again
Thank you very much for the video. Everything is set. But, unfortunately, I have problems with the network. Neither wired nor wireless internet is connected. Please tell me what can be done?
Shout out to @MoodyCodes for caring. My problem was an out of date UTM, the site doesn't really indicate what the current version is nor does the current version have an 'check for updates' feature. I am now running Version 3.2.4 (58), and I have installed both Ubuntu and Fedora without issue. The only thing to remember, for Ubuntu it seemed, is to disconnect the ISO installation image with the 'clear' option on the image dropdown before restarting. It runs great now.
When I type sudo tasksel install ubuntu-desktop the purple screen appears, but it gives me this error: apt-get failed. Though I'm using the 20.4 Ubuntu Version. What I can do to solve this issue?

@@MoodyCodes Hi, thanks for asking! I've tried everything I can think of. I have now settled for using Multipass coupled with Microsoft Remote Desktop and it's pretty much perfect. Multipass is an absolutely fantastic solution for virtualised Ubuntu on M1 macs. However, the deep rooted(!) hacker part of me would still like to know what's going wrong.
