After a long struggle trying to get Ubuntu running on VirtualBox-and a lot of frustration-I finally made it work thanks to UTM and ProgrammingKnowledge! This was, by far, the most helpful video I’ve ever followed. Ubuntu is now running smoothly. Thanks a million!
Thank you so much for this video, was getting frustrated because i got a lot of errors and got into uefi shell with Virtual Box, then i found your Video and just did everything like you did and worked 100%. Thank you Sir !!!
Thank you so much for the detailed instructions. I came here with little hope after multiple hours spent on installing virtualbox on my mac M1 unsuccessfully. It took much longer for my pc to finish the installation in 11:44, the whole night and another two hours the next day. However, now it seems to work fine. Only one question, the time shown on my linux is ten hours behind, not sure why it's this way. Hope I will figure it out!
Thanks a lot!!! the only thing is that whenever I open UTM it takes few minutes showing "DISPLAY NOT ACTIVE" I will appreciate a lot if you know how to solve this issue
Awesome video! - everything worked Thank you very much! One note for those who install Ubuntu UTM on corporate networks - by default the installed VM uses Shared network mode. It didn't work for me so I switched to Bridged mode and it worked like a charm
All I have to say is thank you SO MUCH for this video. You just saved me so much time and pain trying to figure this out on my own. Worked perfectly for me!!!!
@ I just tried installing everything again from scratch and when I saw the “display output is not active” again, I just left it running and went to the other room. When I came back about an hour later it was on the Ubuntu login screen. 🫢
The only issue I had was installing the Spice guest tools. After trying to just install them individually, the installation was successful with no issues.
I am trying to install linux with disk space of 400gb to 500gb but disk space is not getting allocated above 100gb. it's hardly taking 90gb memory space for utm. I need linux with minimum 400gb disk space and now getting erros for low space. How to handle this..? Where to add such disk space so that i can access large amount of memory.
🤠 Hi, great tutorial. Questions: 1. Can Ubuntu be installed as a replacement OS on a M1? 2. DO I need to do other tweaks to plug an external HD as a default HD? Thank you 👍
I am sure I downloaded the ARM64, however I am getting a notification from UTM saying "[...] the guest architecture is x86_64. Please ensure you have selected an image that is compatible with 'amd64' "
I have install ubuntu successfully on UTM watching your video. Really appreciate it. Extremely helpful. Thanks for making our lives easy. I do have a problem that I am looking for solution. I would like to access application that I am able to access within host machine VPN. At this moment I cannot access web application from my ubuntu vm, even-though I changed network config to Bridge network. If you know any steps I can try, would really appreciate it.

Me too
right click away from any files that are shown on the page otherwise you will not see 'paste' option.
Life saver thank you bro 👍
I am all black on this topic but still want to ask why do i need to install UTM, what purpose it will serve?
UTM will serve as virtual Box and it will let us emulate/virtualize the Ubuntu OS ...which won't be possible without UTM or any virtual machine/Box
This tutorial really helped; great video
Awesome video and instructions everything was spot on, thanks for sharing the knowledge.
