The might Phi Lynott had the greatest respect for the true high queen of English folk music Sandy Denney and often spoke about the beauty of her voice and songs and as a person. If God gave you the gift of building your idea of the perfect rocker it would be Phil Paris Lynott, He was a direct descent of the ancient Irish warrior Cú Chulainn, the hound of Ulster. The blessed Phil was the cowboy, the porker player, the rocker, the wild Gipsey boy, the dancing Rudolph Valentino, the poet, the storyteller, the wise one, the lover, the lad how just got back to his town after his travels with many tales and stories to tells to his palls, the master wordsmith, the boy on the corner with his back to against the wall in the center of town with one leg bent and flat of foot placed on the wall for balance with cigaret in hand and a wing and glint in his eye for the passing girls. The man up front driving his warrior players in his band on. The vagabond of the western world, the teacher, the educator, the master musician. Listen to his words in Military Man, it will put a shiver down your back and make you think like never before about been guns and war.
He is thought of in equal terms as many of Irelands previous greats, Oscar Wild, William Butler Yeats, James Joyce, Seamus Heaney, Samuel Beckett, Patrick Kavanagh, Brendan Behan, Jonathan Swift, Edna O'Brien,Thomas Moore, Lady Gregory, Seán Ó Ríordáin, Lady Wilde, Jonathan Swift, Oliver Goldsmith, George Bernard Shaw, Seán O'Casey etc Phill was a man for all seasons and anyone would E have been as proud as punch to have been called his pall
Phil and Thin Lizzy music, poems and stories will be listened to in several hundreds years’ time. Mark my words on this I will be proven right on this.

So sad he didn't had enough balls to say no to such an awful thing as heroin, but i get it,most creative people are ones who are destructive to themselves,Thin Lizzy will forever stay my favorite band

@@towerjunikeka-tet1979 I can not disagree with you, For a long time after Phil sad passing I was angry with Phil, I help he had that he had let himself and us down, It took me at least 10 years before I would play Thin Lizzy music again, it was too hurtful to know that Phil was gone, I understand better now but when I do meet up with Phil sometime in the future inside Heavens gate I will give him a good telling off for taking those bad drugs

Im a writer and i understand the nature of creation, also the nature of destruction so i can't judge him,im also very happy to find someone in a world who knows that one of my heroes sit beside our Lord saviour,Phil was friend to me in those dark days when everybody keep doing nothing but hurt each other,a true gunslinger ready to blow up dark moments of mine, mighty Thin Lizzy was and still is my spaceship through some evil days, and when those two guitars start to make that perfect harmony you cant find words to describe

Phil is now rocking around Heaven with his dear friends Rory Gallagher Gary Moore along with Sandy Denney and many more of the greats who passed away

The Lyrics to this song were written by Phil Lynott based on information he had from Snowy McLoughlin. Snowy McLoughlin wrote the melody. It was a collaboration between Snowy McLouglin and Phil Lynot.

as a huge fan of Thin Lizzy and a massive fan of Sandy Denny..this video is a revelation to me..I didn't know Phil Lynott had any connection to Sandy Denny. In the world of rock n roll and folk rock..the paring of these two legends is interesting to me. Both singer songwriters definitely share things in common most obviously their love for poetry and the strong emotions of the lyrics..the pining for one's significant other is another common thread here..even the melody has more to do with Sandy

The first and only time I have ever hear Phil Lynott sing in a folk style. Too bad it took something like the death of Sandy Denny to make this happen. It would have been nice to hear Phil do a few more ballads like this...

Heard this song before, the Late Late show version. Reading some of the comments, there seems to be some doubters about the bone vides of who wrote the song. This is the link to the Late Late Show appearance, and I think Phil dispels any doubts.
