Glad to be hearing you realize the strength you need to have in your handling system for Bison. Not that I know much about Bison, so I look forward to hearing more.
Really appreciate starting your journey with you and learning along with you. Working with animals has some tough moments - hang in there and carry on.👍
That totally explains it all and I feel like I’m very informed on what exactly you are doing with your working system and your shutit system that’s wonderful thank you so much
In my long life, one of the most helpful things I try to keep in mind is that no matter how small or how large the endeavor, absolutely everything has a learning curve. No exceptions! That helps me feel like less of an idiot when I'm trying something new, and I'm always trying something new 😉. Thanks again!
So sorry about losing one. I know that had to be hard. Sounds like you are doing everything to keep that from happening again. Please be careful when you’re in with them & never let your guard down. May The Lord watch over you & bless you. Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas
Morning 😘 Thank for explaining what Bison mean. Am sure things can get to be overwhelming for time to time. Your brother-law Dianel very smart and intelligent knows alot & can be a big help. Have a blessed day 🙏😇 ❣️
Thanks for sharing the details about how you work with bison . Letting others learning more of what you can do for Bison. It's great You take care of them ,you love and care for those bison also your lovely family. I'm not going to forget about your pretty 🐕 too.
You have a great channel, your knowledge of the bison is awesome! Thanks for sharing with us all, keep up the good work, I love watching and learning about the bison!! Have a great day
Hello, you have great Videos that are teaching me a lot about bison , sorry about the one you lost and you will be blessed with more bison . You are doing a great job I pray that everything goes ok ,I love your channel . Thanks for sharing. God bless you and your family and your bisons . continue the great work.
What a good, compassionate and caring man! Lucy is in God's kingdom now. Thanks for bringing us up to "snuff" with information to give us city people knowledge on farm lingo. Helps out a lot when we're watching your videos on understanding what things mean.
I'm really glad I finally decided to watch your videos! I should've subscribed when Daniel first mentioned you were starting a channel. Great channel & the content is AWESOME!!!
So sorry to hear about Lucy. I thought that was what you meant. But I know nothing about Bison. So thank you for explaining that. Again I'm sorry for your loss. Stay safe and God bless you and your family.
Good Morning, Dusty! I’m watching older videos from you! It’s really giving me a better foundation! I’m really interested in videos because this gives me knowledge of your operation! I’m really seeing the difference as your operation is growing! From the Beginning to now the Present and to the Future! As you’re talking about the Shoot System! I’ve seen your Shoot System in operation! This is filmed on the Original Ponderosa! Before the new property! Before Big Joe! This is just the Dunbar Herd! Your explanation are great! I’m sorry about Lucy! Lucy is probably watching over everyone! God Bless Lucy! You’re very Talented! I really enjoy every video! Thank-you! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
thank you for all that great information. I had no idea what you meant by working the bison.I am sorry you lost one.Have a blessed day. Be safe my friend.
A wonderful video today. So informative and educational. I hope the person comes to get those blocks so you can begin preparing the cement pad for the shoot system. Hopefully someone can help you locate a good system at a good price. Losing Lucy was sad but I commend you for getting your handling system in place at your ranch so you don't have to be transporting them back and forth.
Just started watching your videos so far so good thank you keep up the good work I know I’m right at the beginning of your videos but I’m enjoying them so far thank you
I can only imagine trying to find a good shute system... I know the one dad had built just for our cattle was crazy. At least you have a good foundation to start off on. We ended up using huge casing pipe and digging down and cementing them in ground and then welding the (headgate) system to those pipe which was reinforced with 1inch pipe on the outside like a cage around the headgate. Main thing is sounds like your doing your research on what is going to work best for you and your heard. So interesting to learn about the bison. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed the video and thanks for taking the time to produce them. Don't know about the shoots, but for corals you might price purchasing old used highway guard rail mounted to either steel or railroad ties. Y'all take care and God bless.
Praying your channel will grow enough to help with costs, Daniel and the rental outfit but mostly God in both business, hoping to visit next year, thanks and God bless.
That was a sad story about Lucy, I'm sure it was devastating for that to happen. I imagine anyone raising bison would agree that having the proper handling equipment is tops on the list for their safety, and yours too. I hope you're able to locate all the equipment you need soon and get it ready for their next rounds of vaccinations, worming, preg checks, etc.!! Love having these updates. I am enjoying learning about these magnificent animals! See ya next time!
Another great video and we're all glad Daniel talked you into doing this for us so we can learn about bison I feel like I'm learning so much from you I knew about bison I know they're Wild they have been for thousands of years you're not going to get that out of them so it sounds like you know what you're doing and what you need just got to get it on the move and get building it but I imagine it's not easy thank you for sharing your story with us and helping us to learn because that's what you're doing your teaching us and we appreciate that God bless you be safe
Absolutely love your channel and the information about Bison...so many things about them i have always wondered and now i can enjoy finding out all about them....mainly i would love to try a bison burger....
Awesome video . The chute system may cost you , but in the long run with less travel expenses and loss of herd it may pay for itself . I’m hoping the best for your ranch and channel. Keep up the good work. 👍
I'm really enjoying learning more about bison from you I see definite potential as you grow your RUclips channel I know it's really hard talking to a camera when there's no one on the other end keep up the great work
I hope the guy wanting the cinder block has picked them up by now so you can move forward with building your new facility. We are excited for you. Dusty, you told us earlier that 2 cows are pregnant. How long do they carry before giving birth?
He should be getting those cinder blocks here soon. I'm excited too! They are the same as a woman....right at 9 months! Hopefully soon we will have some babies! - Dusty
Your Heeler is beautiful. So very sorry you lost sweet Lucy. When you get new calfs on the ground, is it possible to dehorn, or would that make them vulnerable to be injured by the others?
The Bison are really majestic animals. So strong. So sorry to hear about the heffer. Sounds like a shoot will be a good idea. Less stress for the herd and you! Thanks so much for sharing. I am learning so much!
The Bison are such majestic animals that it is awesome to see them. I just don't know that I would trust them as you do not to hurt you. They are wild animals but maybe more tame than I always thought.
I would check into a heavy duty silencer chute. They make both hydraulic and manual chutes. Reasonable price for what you get. They are cattle chutes but they are built heavy. I looked at a different one of your videos and it would be heavier than that gray one you had. Hydraulic is the way to go. You have to have extra long lines and put your hydraulic pump away from the working area so you don't spook em with the noise. Just a recommendation from ND. Love your videos.
Good video and you explained things very well..... I see you got a thumbs down. Don't let that bother you because there is someone that goes around to all the good channels and gives them a thumbs down. That's the way he ( or she) gets their jollys and if you weren't any good, they wouldn't bother with you. Take care and am looking forward to seeing the shute system come together. God bless you and your family
There may be rules to how you can collect their wool when they shed each spring but many who spin would love to get there hands on it. Just a FYI tidbit.
Hey brother I really enjoy your channel I'm new to it and I like the video so very educational I would recommend you and your cameras go to a working bison farm and give us an idea exactly what it is that you will be doing it will be a cool video and I can't wait to see it if you choose to do it thanks a lot for your channel and all that you do from South Carolina we will be watching

So I get out of the Navy October 1st of this year. I've always wanted to start a ranch / Farm and for the past couple years I've been thinking about bison. I'm from Western New York there's a guy with a very large hard who said that he would show me the ropes. My question is is it worth it in 2019 to even try to start doing this and make a profit. Another question is should I try to take out a Farm loan through the USDA because funding is my major problem right now is plenty of land has plenty of people around me that I can get good fencing from and I already know where I'm going by my starting herd from.
I think going through the USDA is a great idea. There is a lot of paperwork to fill out, but it's worth a try. You may have some help being in the military. They have different loan programs from buying land to buying animals or farm equipment. Something you need to consider as far as when to get into raising bison is how long it takes before you start making any profits. Bison can't start breeding until they are two years old. Then they won't have calves until the following year. (9 months). Then you can't sell the calves until they're at least 6 months old or so if you want to sell them then. I started out buying yearlings...so I knew it would take me a while. I bought a couple of bred heifers to help that speed up the process. But that's all part of it. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. - Dusty
I just started watching about two months ago and really love watching such majestic Ananias. I’m from West Virginia.
Thank you for explaining the "working" process. Very informative for those who don't work with animals.

Yes, our lil blue healer is sweet!
We aren't suppose to dehorn bison unfortunately.
Cross Timbers Bison, we loss our Annie to cancer at 15. She was a mix, her Mom was a red Heeler and her Dad was blue.
Thank you for answering this question because I was wondering what that meant thank you

There may be rules to how you can collect their wool when they shed each spring but many who spin would love to get there hands on it. Just a FYI tidbit.
Lara Rabb I’m a spinner who would love some Bison wool.
Great video Dusty. Who knew there was so much to raising Bison.
a suggestion can you seperate the cinder block from the other material and have it crushed to put it on your drive way.
Thank you!! I plan on going to some other bison ranches to create some videos on how others operate!
A chute (or squeeze) is a specific piece of machinery that goes at the end of the corral system that you drive the bison into. It holds them still, keeps them and you safe, so that they can be ‘worked’, vetted, checked, inoculated etc. It isn’t a thing you can just weld together. They cost in the thousands and to work bison they’ll need an extra heavy duty one. Bison are not like cows. You get them cornered and they go completely wild. 😄 Dusty will get used to providing the ‘Bison for dummies’ kind of info here so we can all learn. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️

Good video! Great content! Have good weekend!💕
The good thing about the buffalos is the trust you have in the person who takes care of them on a daily basis. The light calves and the low body weight of the buffalo calves must be maintained in any case, so that there are no complications during birth. Therefore it is very important that the buffalo heifers calve for the first time at the age of 3 and not before, because they are not able to supply the calf with milk properly and have to grow up themselves. Because buffalo cows are not fully grown until they are 40 months old. Therefore it is better to give the young buffalo Heifers a little more time than to cover the buffalo Heifers too early... Good luck to you.
Great video and information. Just curious, can the hair they shed be used?
You also might look into the panel systems they use with rodeo bulls. I know when the bulls they had at my horse's stable were being "worked" the panels were heavier than normal.
Their hair can be used! I haven't figured out how they get it all gathered up to do stuff with it...but i'd be interested. I need a chute system first! Lol
