  • In this video I am going to talk about a simple part that many of us ignore to replace. A part that does not cost a lot but it will give you a lot headache and possibly putting a halt to your trip if it brakes.
I did this mistake myself by not replace my one and learned from that.
So hope this will help you not to make the same mistake that I did.

Thank you for this video. I changed my sprockets and chain according to your previous video and also did not change this tiny part. Looks like I will be changing it, ordered already, do not want to risk it. Also, there is a superpinion option, some say it's a good one, but I'm trying to stay oem on my bike. Please consider making video on why and how to adjust rear shock preload. I see two rings there but have no idea how to access those, what exactly each of them do and what preload means and how to know if it is correct.

The thing is that this part should not wear under normal conditions. There could be two resons why the retainer woreout this fast. This can be either your rear wheel is missaligned to left so the chain tries to pull sprocket out of the engine. Second and much worse thing is the wear of the output shaft teeths. They tend to wear unevenly, more on the outside then the engine side. The teeths are thinner on the outside. This creates a slope, which pushes the sprocket out of the engine while transfering torque and creates a load on the retainer. Unfortunatellt outputshaft replecment requires complete engine dissassembly and is quite costly (at least 500 eur in parts if you use Honda oem). Im doing mine in next month unforunatelly...

Hey thanks for the input. I have checked recently the new one that I had installed and there is no signs of wear so far. Also the output shaft is in good condition. So it only leaves the misalignment which I don’t think was the case back then. Honda recommends this part to be checked and replaced if is there is any sing of wear so my guess is that it was already time to replace it when I first changed the sprocket. Will keep an eye on the new one though. Thanks again.
