Did I got myself the real unicorn?
Hello all and welcome to the channel!
Today I am going to introduce to you all my new bike. I have been looking for this bike for quite a while now and finally I managed to import this one from Germany.

In this video I am going to talk about a simple part that many of us ignore to replace. A part that does not cost a lot but it will give you a lot headache and possibly putting a halt to your trip if it brakes. I did this mistake myself by not replace my one and learned from that. So hope this will help you not to make the same mistake that I did.

Transalp 700 - Getting ready for off-road riding!
Hi, What is the tightening torque for the gear lever and cover?
Hey buddy! Sorry don’t know from the top of my head but I have shared the link of my manual and you can have a look. All the best drive.google.com/file/d/1UV-71AQZelz_YDNcv_VhV9uaFaexxnjv/view?usp=drivesdk
Well done. Do you ever feel lack of power? I had a rd04, switched on ankym LC8, but it is too violent. Rd07 has more torque of rd04 I suppose. Love the sound of engine
Hey there. To be honest I don’t. It has more torque than the Transalp and been lighter it feels more agile. Of course is not as machine that you are going to be doing wheelies but it can handle well. I am at the moment travelling back from the ABR festival to Ireland, full loaded with camping gear and it is handling really well. Thanks for your comment and all the best to you
Such a great video!
Thanks!
Read the description before the 30 seconds, knew it was a DR650 before I even saw it, great bike, welcome to the vintage family. PS: I'd argue, like Fortnine showed, that Honda still makes great bikes. The Transalp 700 is a great contender for this one, if a bit expensive. Then again, NX650/XR650 exist where you guys are so there's that oldie as well. Great ride.
Hahaha I gave it away! Yeah I am enjoying this bike so much. It’s a great machine. The Transalp is a great machine but is on a complete different level All the best! Thanks!
Thank you for your sane video. Subbed!
Welcome!
I get it. I'd swap my transalp 700 for an AT XRV any time 😃it's just that around here in Austria they're unreasonably expensive. I'll keep followingy you 👍
Hey thanks. 👍
See you at ABR with my Transalp!
Hope so! All ready to go!
Hi having had both, AT looks much better but for everyday riding Transalp wins.
Transalp is a more comfortable bike specially on the pavement. But I prefer the AT as a more do all bike. For me it has a better riding position for my height and it is a more agile bike. Both bikes are great bikes to own but to me AT win for me.
ΟΜΟΡΦΑ ΚΑΙ ΤΑ ΔΥΟ .ΜΠΡΑΒΟ ΩΡΑΙΟ ΒΙΝΤΕΟ
Thanks. Great machines no doubt!
The African twin for the win..both bikes have the power capacity..but when that extra gusto is needed, the transalp will fall short every time
Yeah the AT definitely feels more powerful! 👌
Did you remove the seal springs?
Hey there. No. it was not necessary to do that. The film is very thin and it will go between l the seal and the fork. Best of luck!
very chill video I liked it 👍🏽
Thanks ! 👍
G'day, Great video, I am taking delivery of my XRV750 RD07A ( 1997) in May, I run 35 litre Givi Canyon soft bags on my GSA1250 Trophy and been on many trios around Australia with them, love apart losing one the handles that tore off.my question is I am wanting to purchase crash bars like your because they look like they protect the upper half on the body work, can let me know where you purchased them from? Many thanks
Hey there. Glad to hear that you’re getting an AT! I got the bars from heavyduties which is a company in Romania. They were very helpful on my purchase but I am not happy with the finish quality of bars. I always keep my bike in the garage dried all the time and they already have rust spots on their weld joins. I have a GIvi crash bar on my Transalp for about 7 years now and they have had not a spot of rust on them. So I am not sure how long this one will last. Regarding the protection they are really good as I dropped my bike one day and the bar took all the blunt without any damage other than a few scratches on the bar. Plus the design is good to protect the upper fairing. At the moment I have coated the bar with ACF50 rust spray which might help. Another option would be to respray it with a better protection paint. Good luck with your AT and let me know what solution you decided to go with.
Thanks heap for your swift reply, yes I would prefer nickel plating same as the BMW crash bars or black powder coated. I will keep you up with my AT
Review the bike sod the weather forecast
You are probably living in California !!
What happens if I just install the k&n filter without remove the tubes?
Hi there to be honest I would not know. The manual calls for removing the breather and seal the gap with provided plug but what I did was I just plugged the hose instead. You could do the same if you want to keep the hose in place
Where can I buy the box that is attached to the Transalp?
Sorry mate what box are you referring to?
both is great bikes, for me the best between them for an all rounder the african twin is the better option.
👍 I agree!
Hi, I also have a Transalp 700. Where did you find the manual?
Hey you can have a copy of mine here drive.google.com/file/d/1UV-71AQZelz_YDNcv_VhV9uaFaexxnjv/view?usp=drivesdk
@@44degreesmotorcycleadventures hi can I please get the access too thank you so much for your videos!
@@alexpopa8558 you should have access to it now! 👍
Thanks, that was quick! 👌👌👌 Some genius simple and inexpensive solution. I like it. I've tried using some of those generic phone and GPS holders from Amazon which you put in the mirror bolt. But they're too far from the middle and I find it irritating to look to the side that much. Also, of course they move with the handle bar, which is annoying as well. I like your construction. Cheap, easy to make and therefore easy to try out. And since you've used it for a couple of years with a large phone, it should hold up well.
Thanks. As I said I have been using it for a while now and no issues. 👍👍
Thanks for the vid. The plate that holds the sprocket is broken so I'm going to install a new one
Good 👍
Your rubber cushions were positioned wrong. They should be like a saddle over the metal ridges, the small section on one side and the large section on the other side. It is very common for the thin elastic band that connects the two sections to be cut but you can still fit them and stay in place. Smart move freezing the bearings to go in easier! Nice video.
Hey thanks to point it out! I figured that out as well as when I went to put the wheel hub back in place it was not going in properly. I will definitely have to get another pair sometime as they are getting old. 👍👍
Bonjour idem 140000 en t@600 et la en rd07 1995👌👌✌️
Cool!
Super video merci🙏🙏
Welcome! Thank you!
Hey there! Your phone holding setup looks interesting. It's self made isn't it? Could you provide a picture of it or a description? Thanks a lot ❤ P.S. I love all the additions you made to your 700 and that you provide these videos 🙏
Hello there! Yes indeed is self made. I could not find any mounts for a Transalp 700 so I decided to make my own. This is made by using two IKEA brackets that was left over from a unit that I had. Both are held in place using the existing screws on the dashboard near the windshield. then I used a bolt to attached them both together and a RAM ball to attached the phone holder. For a phone holder I am using the Ultimateaddons phone holder. I am away at the moment but as soon as I am back I will take some pictures to show you the whole setup. Thanks
I watched so many videos of yours before I bought my Transalp XL700V 7 days ago, , and now Im disappointed in you that you changed to the African Twin xD
You shouldn’t not be disappointed. You got a great machine that you will enjoy for a long time. Yeah I got a AT after all these years with my TA but there was not a single day that I opened the garage fire her up and I was not happy. And by the way…. I still have it Good luck with yours! 🤟
Very nice restoration! What crash bar did you mount on the bike?
Thanks. Got them here heavyduties.ro/product/honda-africa-twin-rd07-a-crash-bars-enduro/amp/
Just bought one being delivered in a few days looking forward to it thanks for the reviews 👍🙏
Welcome and good luck with it. You won’t regret! 👍
Bela máquina, estou querendo compra uma infelizmente a mais nova e 2014 aki no Brasil
Olá greetings from Ireland! E Honda parou de fabricar lá em 2012. Mais não importa qual o ano se ela for bem mantida ela pode durar muitos anos. Honda lançou a nova transalp 750 neste ano na Europa não sei chegou aí. Abracos
The thing is that this part should not wear under normal conditions. There could be two resons why the retainer woreout this fast. This can be either your rear wheel is missaligned to left so the chain tries to pull sprocket out of the engine. Second and much worse thing is the wear of the output shaft teeths. They tend to wear unevenly, more on the outside then the engine side. The teeths are thinner on the outside. This creates a slope, which pushes the sprocket out of the engine while transfering torque and creates a load on the retainer. Unfortunatellt outputshaft replecment requires complete engine dissassembly and is quite costly (at least 500 eur in parts if you use Honda oem). Im doing mine in next month unforunatelly...
Hey thanks for the input. I have checked recently the new one that I had installed and there is no signs of wear so far. Also the output shaft is in good condition. So it only leaves the misalignment which I don’t think was the case back then. Honda recommends this part to be checked and replaced if is there is any sing of wear so my guess is that it was already time to replace it when I first changed the sprocket. Will keep an eye on the new one though. Thanks again.
my sit is playing ,, dont want to open ...
Children is like that the love to play but don’t want to do anything we ask 😀😂 Sorry just kidding! It could be the lock mechanism that is fault.
Hello my brother how are you? My name is CJ just last year 2023 in February. I flew to England from the US to buy the exact same bike that I see that you have. It’s a 1996 exact same color everything that’s wonderful man and it’s great to, see your channel to see what you’re doing. It’s very helpful I see the pioneers that you got nice. They look nice on your bike. I was thinking of getting the loan ride pets for mine. The bike is still in England because that’s the reason why I bought it to leave it there originally I’m from England but I’ve been living in the US over 40 years, I ride a GS a BMW here and I just thought that I would buy another bike and leave it in England so when I want to ride Europe and other places on that side, it works out good so I wanted to know if you looked into the loan rider pets for your bike, if they would fithit me up. Let me know what you think. I’m watching your videos very helpful. I’ll probably do some videos myself later down the line but nice to meet you man can’t wait to hear back from you.
Hello there! Great to hear that you got the same one. I am really enjoying mine! Hope to release more videos on XRV soon so stay tuned and thanks for watching. It’s a great idea to have one in Europe I was thinking of doing the same in Brasil. No I have not tried the panniers that you mentioned as I went for Givi as I got a really good discount from Carpimoto in Italy for both panniers and rack. They are really good and I recommend them. If you ever in Ireland let me know. Good luck and all the best Adriano
@@44degreesmotorcycleadventures when I got my bike the first ride I did was to Wales. It was fantastic. I guess I do have plans for Ireland . I have checked on a lot of websites and places that sell parts for the African twin in the Netherlands. I ordered parts from I have a house in Italy in the south Calabria plan to ride down there. I’m gonna stop there and pick up some parts. On my way. I will look on your channel. I hope you have a website but I will stay in touch and also send you some pictures bye-bye thanks for replying take care.
@@ridewithcj1459 that sounds really good. This summer we are going to the ABR festival and we have plans to go via Wales. Any tips will be great 👍
Hi man . Thanks for the video. I was wondering if you know why the tankbag has that frond strap . I noticed that you cant remove it or do anything else with it exept to cury the bag ,but for that job there are two more options . Do you have any idea ? When the bike is rolling what are you doing with it ?
Hi there. The front strap is for you to attach it to the handlebar in order to provide more security in case if the bag comes loose from the tank holder. 👍
Nice video, you gave me a good idea tks
Welcome glad to hear that 👍
great job dude and best bike ever deserve it
Thanks
it would be nice to actually show the product you are reviewing.
Genial..Tengo la misma moto año 2012 con 18.000 km.comenzó a fallar cambie bujias y no partió más Saludos cordiales desde Patagonia Chile
Hi there. Sorry to hear that. Maybe try to put back the plugs that you replaced and see if starts again. If it does then you might have the wrong set of plugs. If not, try to see if you have a spark on the plugs. Its easy to do. Put the plug into the cable and attach it to a metal place into the bike. Starting the bike will give a spark. If does, then that is not your issue, if does not then it is. Hope you get sorted. All the best!
Thanks for the video. Have you had any problem with the lithium battery on the long term? Cheers.
Hey thanks for the comment. I never had any issues with it since I installed. 👍
Thanks mate!
Very nice work.
Thanks! 👍👍
I have a 2002 modell my self, and I am very happy for that, done some work on it, and love working and riding it
Cool! They are great bikes. I am enjoying mine too.
You can disable ABS by removing one of the fuses. I do it on all my bikes. Good review, I had one of the first XL600s and loved it. Bought a lot of bikes in between and now back to Transalp again, the 750. Great bike.
Hi there thanks for the tip. Glad to hear that you are back on a Transalp. Enjoy it and hope it will exceed your expectations 👍
Thx god for That... Mine are gone Need to get the forks Done 🛵💨

Amazing! Need to Come back to ireland to try ur twin 😉
Hey buddy how thinks? Hope you had a nice time in Ireland last time. Yeah defenetly! 😁👍
Always twice in a lifetime 🛵💨 keepn Touch bro...hope ure doing good 🙏
Nice!
Thanks
Thanks! 🤙
Hi my friend! Do you think transalp 700 or 650 is better for off-road driving?
Hello there. I think the 650 is more capable for off-road as it has a 21" front wheel and it's a lighter bike than the 700. depending on what type of off-road you are planning to do, the 600 is even better bike. Good luck!
Good job 😊
Thanks 👍
I'm sorry but a bike is designed from the ground up, not a redesign of an existing bike and this is the best honda can come up with. I love Hondas but this is a deal breaker. Changing oil and air filter should be easy and the maintenance should not be very time consuming. Dang I wanted a Trans Alps but not now. Thanks for the video, it was excellent!!
Hello there. Thanks for your comment. Yeah, it seems to me that bikes now days are getting more and more complicated and hard to maintain. Looking back at 80s and 90s bikes, they where easier to maintain and fix. Now we have to spend 2 hours removing plastics, tank etc in order to get a spark plug changed! 😠I guess manufacturers are not taken this is consideration any longer and part of it is our own fault too. Most folks out there could not be bother to even check the oil don't mind changing it. I guess in the 80s and 90s most bikers took maintenance as part of own a bike. Today we have lazy bikers. 😁 also with all the bells and whistles that most bikes are made today, no wonder the air filter would be bury under all that crap. Like you I would love to see honda design a bike which basic maintenance like oil, filter, spark plugs can be done by anyone with as little effort as possible.... but I don't think we will see this in the near future. Unless we are back to the basics. All the best! 👍
This is not the new transalp dude
What did you spray on the exhaust for rust prevention?
Hello there. To be honest there is not much you can spray on the exhaust that would work 100 percent. This is because anything you spray on it, it will evaporate when it gets hot. What I do is ensure that I always stored the bike dry and I spray some rust killer spray. Any one you can find is fine. But you will have to do that after every ride. Even doing all that my exhaust will need some attention at the end of this season. So bottom line is if your exhaust is quite rust I would recommend you to remove it and clean as much as you can. Otherwise spraying will do it no good. Best if luck
I need one of the users to buy
Thank you for this video. I changed my sprockets and chain according to your previous video and also did not change this tiny part. Looks like I will be changing it, ordered already, do not want to risk it. Also, there is a superpinion option, some say it's a good one, but I'm trying to stay oem on my bike. Please consider making video on why and how to adjust rear shock preload. I see two rings there but have no idea how to access those, what exactly each of them do and what preload means and how to know if it is correct.
Welcome. Will do someday.
Thanks a lot for this information
You're welcome!
Bravo
