Good car and probably a better option for 90% of the people that buy Fortuners and Everests, especially when you consider the maintenance and repairs on a diesel once you get over 120k and out of warrantee etc, a new turbo, intercooler etc will be a months salary or more to repair easily. Petrol engine here is a much better option in the long run.
Had a 2005 2.4 gls.......fully loaded no need for options ....still missed to this day .....the fuel consumption and small tank was my reason for parting ways eventually when fuel costs doubled .
just some food for thought, its a great vehicle, but like most new car prices we in RSA are overcharged. In Canada the PHEV Outlander costs from CAD46'500ish which at today's rate equals to only R620'000ish. Oh and you are less likely to be hijacked or targeted if you drive the Outlander than the fortuner.
So true. These days I avoid Toyota like the plague. My friend was killed for his Hilux. I used to love Toyota but we have a hijacking epidemic in South Africa which makes them a high risk vechile.
You're right about the Fortuner in Australia, it sells but not very popular. The Toyota Prado is very popular, and is what buyers prefer between the two. The Outlander in Australia is popular, but is also cheaper to buy, starts at $35000 AUD (R416000) compared to $53000 AUD (R630000) for the Fortuner, so its interesting that in SA the Outlander is priced similar to the Fortuner.
Yeah true that i drive around melbourne everyday and in a day i see average of 5 fortuners compared to SA where out of every10 cars you are likely to spot a fortuner or 2
I just need dirt road ability...never going to climb rocks, and therefore this has more than enough 4x4 ability for holidays and weekends away. Love the look, it being Japanese and Mitsubishi quality is renowned.
If this is the same 2.5L engine and CVT as the nissan Xtrail, you might need to consider how it performs during full load. Its gutless engine and slow cvt response nearly caused accidents if you try to overtake or go out of a junction quickly. My xtrail had the cvt slipping before the 100k km, the engines need a gasket replacement, throttle sensor, shocks, and multiple replacement of ball joints. We had the same year model CRV and only needed to replace the ball joints once. I couldn't imagine with the 7 seating capacity that the car could perform safely with 7 people and some luggage. They could have changed the tuning, but hopefully increase the reliability department as well.
The resale is what kills it. These outlanders have…outlandish depreciation. We have an ASX, well our 3rd one and they are just such epic honest cars, zero issues whatsoever and still packing decent 2L engine that quite a bonus if you compare to the equivalent Kia/Hyundai that thinks a N/A 1.5 is a good idea in such a big vehicle. Fortuner 2.4 Auto is where its at unFortunerly.
I preffered the previous generation, it was way cheaper and wasnt a rebranded xtrail(a car i dont particularly like for maintainace reasons). The third row it seems has gotten even worse(because the 3rd row in the xtrail is the worst for teens and adults). I would more compare this to a Rav4 though, its not based on the Triton like the Fortuner is based on the Hilux. All in all in this class I would get the H6, it has all the things plus a turbo for less.
Europe will be getting the ‘24 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV next year, but it won’t come to the UK, as Mitsubishi is already out of the British market. They will consider reentering the UK if there is more than one electric vehicle in the range.
The title is misleading. Outlander is a competitor to RAV 4, and its a much better car than a RAV 4. Pajero's are competitors to Toyota Fortuner's. Compare like with like.
This wasn't a comparison between the 2, it was where and for what reason people spend R750k when buying an SUV. The Fortuner is the leader in the 4x4 SUV segment, it's the target for every other SUV.
I fully agree compare with X-Trail , Rav and Mazda CX-5 not Fortuner. Fortuner kill this car hands down!! Why is everyone going CVT transmissions?? They are pathetic!!
For us that are used to the Pajero 3.2 diesel engine, it’s difficult to adjust to the 2.5l petrol engine.. For me, I like the design but 130KW is a big no no!!
The question has not been answered, my view is that it probably is better value for money than the Fortuner, but its not vehicles to compare with each other. The Subaru Outback is the best to compare the Outlander with, and the Outback will win ny far.
And the fortuner is always a good car the mitsubishi will definitely have alot of issues with the cvt gearbox that's the first problem and that mitsubishi should be compared to vanguard not the fortuner
Really? My outlander lasted to 300km before being written off and never once let me down. We often went on fishing and camping trips and in my line of work I was offroad a lot. It wasn’t a great off-roader like my triton or Landy, but it had awesome factory sound systems and in my opinion the previous gen was a looker. The outie doesn’t have a reputation of failure
We’ve owned a Kluger for many years but after Toyota’s poor customer service we’ve had enough and bought the Outlander. We previously owned a Magna and had great service from Mitsubishi. Toyota are trading on their long overrated supposed reliability. Our Magna way outlasted the Kluger so happily going back to Mitsubishi.
Any car in this class in better than a Fortuner. Not falling over for no reason, not having those 60's jump seats at the back, better looking, more fuel efficient, etc. By today's standards, the Fortuner is way behind the rest.
If the Everest can't make a dent in Fortuner sales than this has no chance..maybe they will move 30 on a good month..I had a 2014 Fortuner d4d which was brilliant so long as it never went over 120..I traded it on a 2020 Fortuner 2.4gd..very dissapointed and selling it soon...going smaller as don't need 7 seats though never used tge lousy arrangement the Fortuner had.
@@howardnyika966 the general feeling of the way it drove, the suspension was very skittish, and seemed underpowered compared to my d4d..I went from an auto to a manual which was not the best move

Horrible engine I agree. I refuse to drive an SUV that’s not turbocharged if not diesel
I can overtake safely with a 1.3L honda jazz, a 1.4 polo, 1.6 qashqai..... How come you cant safely overtake with a 2.5L engine?

What would you spend your R750k on if you were buying an SUV?
Qashqai or Kia Sportage
Demo 22’ Tiguan R-line 🔥
GWM Tank 300 with ARB goodies, tyres
Why is this compared to the Fortuner; What is happening to the Pajero Sport???
Is it being killed and discontinued???
Subaru Forester

Wonder if the theft rate is much better too..?

Would Tiguan Allspace not be a better direct comparison?
It is. But crossovers with 7 seats just don't make sense. Rather Pajero, Fortuner, Everest, MUX, etc. because they're bigger.
Hi Guys, please review the new Tiguan - preferably the midrange spec.
You said it has no 360° camera? Thats a mistake, right? coz we can see a camera on the front bumper there.
That was the rear camera
