Q). I've really liked watching your styles videos of David Gilmour and Jeff Beck. I'm writing in to ask if you could do something similar with Angus Young? I've been an AC/DC fan for a really long time and would like to know which scales Angus uses. Along with that, I'd also like to know what his "generic" approach is to all of those classic AC/DC licks. Thanks for all the guitar lessons work you do!

A). Both the music and the song styles of AC/DC are legendary, but a big part of what anchors the sound of this band is Angus' unique guitar work. If you become familiar with how he uses the major and minor pentatonic scales, they can be blended against those classic, "Blue Notes," to create his unique, "combination scale sound," (that Angus has become so well known for). By working on these scale patterns and studying a number of his solos, you'll start to get both a feel for his style and a good understanding for his use of combined pentatonic scales on the guitar. Enjoy!

Do the solos just follow chord progressions using the pentonic positions? Or is everything just everywhere

I've been playing guitar for a long time and I still can't make any sense of scales and modes they don't seem to have any strict laws or applications and often seems to all be full of contradiction. The only conclusion I can come to is muscle memory patterns to apply in any position? Idk I've watched videos, read articles, taken lessons it just doesn't click for me.

+Vu Le I love Buckethead! He is so underrated as a player. I think really and truly the guy kicks Malmsteen's ass when it comes to playing. He is a world class virtuoso!

licksnkicks everyone else pales in comparison to buckethead. maybe marty friedman is an exception, but thats about it

+Vu Le I have listened to a few guitarists from Sweden and I can't believe what I hear. My son is always on the lookout for other guitar gods. It's really funny because I have heard some other virtuoso players but have never heard of them!

To show the game of Angus, must already use a Gibson SG and a Marshall amp ... and have talent :)
