There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
New episodes twice a week on iHeartRadio.

14:28: I think Robert's confusing "point of no return" with nadir or zenith or some other word that means the absolute extreme of something. It just means an irreversible change - which actually kind of implies things *will* get worse, because you can't go back to the way things were before (good) and will have to continue on the path you've chosen (bad).

Genesis was incredible back when Peter Gabriel was in it, and was perfectly fine for many years after he left.

I remember Bashar and Asma were on one of the network morning shows, and good god the heaps of praise upon them, and the fawning over Asma's appearance. It was maybe 2-3 years before the Arab Spring. The American press is such a pushover for western educated dictators.

I remember reading a National Geographic issue from 2001, right when Bashar came into power, where he was on the cover and was the subject of a puff piece comparing him to Don Corleone as he stepped into the shoes of Hafez al-Assad. This was the headliner of that issue as well. I found it after the Syrian Civil War started, so it was fucking surreal to read that shit.

Phil Collins and Genesis are perfectly fine with a mess of bangers.

Succession was a tough watch cause Kendall Roy looks (to me) like Bashar.

Seriously, both hosts need to be forced to listen to "Fifth of Firth" on loop Clockwork-Orange-style.
Collins got saccharine and obnoxious in the 80's, but man was a genuinely great musician, especially as Genesis' drummer.
Probably the worst take in the history of this show.

27:17 Pretty sure Basel founded the Shabiha, one of the premier Syrian regime death squads, so he can't have been that cool a dude.

Someone recommended this podcast/Bashar episode on reddit. The ratio of banter to actually talking about Bashar is off the charts. This could have been a 6 minute podcast if every 3 phrases were not punctuated with 4 minutes of edgy jokes.

You’re not joking. Surprised this wasn’t a half hour episode.

So literally every lefty podcast gets the "no jokes" commenters, huh?
Like, if this is an issue for you, just read the information yourself? Maybe I'm silly for expecting reasoning ability from a stereotypical redditor but c'mon.

I’m always slightly shocked and amused when educated Americans call ophthalmologists ‘eye doctors’. I don’t personally know anyone over the age of 8 who would do that.

The irony here is that you seem to be confusing optometry and opthalmology. An optometrist is an OD who gives you an eye exam for glasses, an opthalmologist is an MD (medical doctor) specializing in performing medicine and surgery for eyes.
