Huda Beauty can do no wrong when it comes to her eyeshadow palettes. I have them all and love them all. ❤
I lived Grunge and went out during the early mid 90's. This palette is emo/ goth eyemakeup.
Grunge was minimal eyemakeup and bold browny/red lipstick.

Truth! 😂 I was only a teen, it was no eye makeup, over plucked brows, and either a deep brown red lipstick or there was this griege not quite brown not quite purple/gray metallic lipstick that made me look dead 😅🤣 god I was in love with that lipstick!!!
Jen Phelps also commented that this collection felt goth instead of grunge and I agree. Subculture by ABH is what i think of as grunge -- it has brown, burgundy and olive tones. The HUDA palette is still pretty tho.
I didn't want Pretty Grunge anymore and now I want it again, goddang!
Huda does it again with her large pallet. This one is amazing and I can’t wait to get my hands on it again.
I can't wait to use this palette with the new Natasha Denona palette and even Huda's Rose Quartz. I love cool tones which are pretty rare so even that glaze has my name all over it! I still see warm tones but I'll take it ❤

Amanda - I TRY to crank music and clean my brushes every Friday night. I am boring and have no life though. 😂 it seems if I schedule these types of things, they get done. Weird, I know. I like your thought of the purple and maybe some grunge burgundy in this palette!
I agree with you on the color story not matching the theme. This is what I thought the Gothic palette from Cosmic brushes would look like. Only with a few more deep dark shades in place of the light shades.
Theming aside, the color story is beautiful.
Palette is gorgeous 😍 I have a few similar things but not with the purple shifting shade or as many cool tone neutrals. This is going on my Christmas list to myself 😅😍

The blush is interesting and aesthetically pleasing, but I’ll wait for a sale. I love that the black lippie is called “ex-wife!” 😂 I’ll have to see the palette in person. I feel like I’ve seen this color story a lot, but those shimmers…. 🤤. So pretty.

I think this color story is a good mix of "pretty" glam and smoky "grunge". I haven't bought shadow in a bit but this one may come home with me.
I don't like plumping products either so I think I'll just make my own version of that gloss by mixing some black eyeshadow w/a clear gloss.
I was immediately drawn to the colors. Then I thought, maybe I don't need it, and I watched your video. I already own stone cold fox and love it, so I don't need this Huda palette. And I agree with you, its more a goth palette than a grunge one

Grunge for me makes me think of smoke, dirt, moss and deep dark burgundy/eggplant shades like dirty/decaying nature.This collection looks like a mix of goth (lipstick), spring/pop (blush) and smoky glam (eyeshadow palette).
Same for me with what I consider grunge. I often say I prefer "messy grunge," the dirty muddy deep tones. This palette to me is more on the Goth side or Goth Glam 🤷🏽♀️
I am getting this one! I have the empowered, which I really like, they will be complimentary to each other.

This palette is one smokey lavender away from being the perfect 1999 goth palette.
A grunge palette definitely needs a burgundy and washed-out brownish reds to mimic the smudged lip liners we used as eyeliner. They were so pointy and painful, lol.

This palette is everything for the cool makeup lovers. I am in love, I got it when it launched and it’s a must. Not all the same color, there is some beautiful variety.

Me too, I have jaguar, rose quartz, empowered palletes. Several Sephoras' own single and some Indian palletes. So I won't buy it.
i wanted pretty grunge so bad but i just purchased troublemaker and 11:11 a few weeks ago. that might be why i was drawn to pretty grunge in the first place 😅 i might still pick it up because i love huda’s formula. thank you for your swatches! ❤

Thank you so much for reviewing this palette, Amanda! I saw it in store and walked by really fast and hid my eyes, because I knew it was something I had to have, and I wasn’t prepared to buy it at that moment! Lol I discovered it’s supposed to be half glam and half grunge, so I think the theming and aesthetic fits perfectly! I think this is a perfect solution for those who thought Natasha Denona’s xenon palette had too much gray and white in it. I love them both! Haven’t tried the Huda one yet, but I had to have that black gloss for a base. Can’t wait to try it!
This to me(54yr old ex 90s goth) seems a bit glam goth rather than grunge but it is beautiful. My fave pallette is stone cold fox and colourpop of quartz. Do I need this pallette if I have both others ?🤔🖤💜
They did put Pretty in front of Grunge. But I still like the cover and colors. I think grunge can be more updated or what each of us consider it to be for us! You look amazing in this look!

I had been stalking this release and now I realize I can wait for a sale and to see ir person. I also agree it is more of a sultry palette. Her recent releases have been on tje deeper side imo which is why i have held.off. I do enjoy her color stories and formula

I love the theme and overall look of the palette but sadly can't really justify buying it myself because *as pretty as the palette is* I can't really call any of the shadows "unique" to my personal collection.

I feel like the Jaguar 9 pan palette is a nice capsule of the vibe of this bug palette 🤔 So if Pretty Grunge is too pricey (the big palettes are very pricey), maybe look at the Jaguar instead? Still love three Huda palettes...the Light Nude, Mercury Retrograde and Python 🥰 Decluttered the Khaki Haze (horrible, samey colours, lack of khaki and hard pan on the shimmers) and the Mint pastel one, whose name I have forgotten. Huda is pretty hit or miss for me. When she gets it right, she knocks it out of the park! Her misses are truly terrible though 😅

I SO want to see compassions with this palette and the Naked2! That has been my Ride or Die and one of the first high end palette I ever bought, and it’s now too old to use and they no longer make it! I need a dupe so badly!
The description on Sephora says half glam half grunge which is why it probably doesn’t seem like the blush nor the entire palette feels entirely grunge.

Well knowing Huda this is what she thinks is Grunge and that's totally understandable! She comes from an entirely different perspective and I respect that. That said, I do agree with you that I don't personally think it's very Grunge. But hey, makeup is for everyone and you can do whatever you want with it right?! I love the look of the palette and when I can buy it in the Netherlands I might would. It's a good neutral/cool neutral staple with ofcourse amazing shimmers. ❤
To me grunge= olive greens and they're missing here. BUT, I'm gonna buy the palette despite its name.. :)
Regarding the 'is this grunge or not?' discussion, it's really about the textures imo. We just didn't do all that sparkle in 90s grunge style. Maybe a kind of greasy, goopy, satiny sheen would be at home in grunge. But not today's super reflective glittery or metallic textures. This is a glam take on a gothed-up, grungy colour story, not true grunge. The black lipstick, as well, is definitely outside the realm of grunge. Grungy lips would be dark, often cool-leaning browns, or bricky/plummy/wine tones. Black ticks it over into goth, for sure.
All that said, it's still really pretty and my little grungygothpunk trash panda heart wants it real bad. It's a neutral palette that actually excites me, which is NOT something I say often.

This palette definitely looks better swatched and in use than I expected, based on the pictures I saw of the shades in the pan. But it’s definitely not for me. I think Jen Phelps really nailed it when she said the color story is more goth than grunge.
I don't really care for the color changing cosmetics idea. But that's probably because it all reminds me of the lipstick balms my mom had in the early 90s that were blue, green, pink, and yellow maybe but they all made your lips the same shade of hot pink haha

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the theme. I feel the same way you do. I like grungy looks and I don’t see those shades in this palette. Pretty and glam, but not grunge. I also thought it was curious the palette is called Pretty Grunge and the gloss called Goth Gloss. Grunge and Goth are different aesthetics. Maybe they don't understand what those aesthetics are 🤷🏽♀️. Very pretty look you created with it. I love a black lip 🖤.
It's a pretty palette! Reminds me in part of Sydney Grace Enduring Love, which is a really good palette, hard to match. To my eyes, there, are only 4 or 5 cool shades in Pretty Grunge. Many of these are warm, sigh.
And that's how i felt about as Stone Cold Fox, which I own. Also a nice palette (and an astonishing omni-dupe, as you almost weekly prove), but multiple reddish browns and a few olive-y toned bronze shimmers make the name a laughable misnomer. Now, the new Natasha Denona Xenon palette is an almost "stone cold" palette!

Totally agree that it missed the mark for the the grunge theme. Would have loved some cool toned olive green with a gold shift and maybe a matte dark cool/neutral tone olive. But the Huda formula is probably my favorite. So I’ll definitely pick this up. Thanks for warning us about the lipgloss being plumping! Those also really hurt my lips and while I was super excited for the black gloss, I will have to pass.
I wish I could rock black lipstick. The closest that works on me is Lisa Eldridge 'Velvet Midnight' lipstick, and Kaleidos 'Bloodstone' lip clay. I agree this color story is really glam, not grunge. Personally I'll be passing on this because of Huda Kattan's antisemitic statements. But as always, I really enjoyed your review and tutorial. You always perfectly combine info with inspo :)
🛑🛑Thank you Amanda for another great video. Your hard work is GREATLY APPRECIATED! But this is an EASY HARD PASS for me due to huda’s recent pro-hamas comments. I’ll stick with my CP Stone Cold Fox palette, it truly covers a lot comparisons!
I was pretty upset to hear about her stance. I have purchased and liked prior palettes but going forward I’ll pass no matter how pretty the palette or good the formula. I’m glad Amanda gives comparisons because I can achieve the look elsewhere.

This palette is not for me. Too cool-toned and yes, I'm over cool tones, I think it should have been called Pretty Goth as I agree some shades are lacking and this palette costs 94 CAD!!! Way too much for me, even with a 20% discount. 🤷♀️
I was so into this palette until I heard about Huda's comments about Jewish customers. Hard pass. I will look at Alter Ego for dupes for her brand and not feel bad about it.

I like the color story but do not like the packaging and I agree the theme seems off. I wish she would go back to doing some of the amazing packaging she used to have like the Rose Quartz, Mercury Retrograde etc, the last few palettes I haven't bought purely because I dislike the outside of the palette so much. 🫣 But I guess there is something for everyone in terms of packaging preferences so I will save my coins for some indie palettes 🤷♀️😉
