I have one of these in my koi pond, pain at first but after trial and error i personally set it up in the corner of my pond opposite end to water flow, i pointed the water jet pipe underneath so it pushes the skimmer against the edge of the pond, as with the skimmer lifting up i switch the pump on and push the whole skimmer deep into the pond on its side to expel all air and this works, it does a brilliant job keeping surface really clear, i clean the sponge and tray every 2 days, I also keep it running full time, hope this helps, very entertaining video, keep well. 👍

You need to submerge it and turn it upside down to get all the bubbles out, with it floating around thats actually what they are supposed to do, but if you want it in the corner like i prefer aswell, you need to get loads of slack on the cable and it will always pull to a direction, you need that the face the pull direction to the corner of the pond your happy with, or just tie a wire to it and to a screw in your copeing to hold it in position.
If you add filter floss some mornings you may come out to it floating again thats just because its either blocked or its too thick, basically it needs more draw so the flow is not being restricted. Keep playing youl get it. I love mine tbh but had the same issues you did when i first got it so your not alone.

Definitely bare with it. You can use the adjustable jet at the bottom to make it stay in the corner of the pond. If you can keep in one place it will create a flow for the water on the surface. It will only come up when the pump is starved of water. I’m replacing the filter floss every 2 days as it takes loads of muck out. I’ve got the 50 version, I defo think they are the best available.

I had same problem with floating up but after making sure the cable sunk down and tying another length of cable to one of the lugs underneath I pull it into center of pond tie cable so its anchored , no problems now ,does a great job
Hi Andy. I have had the 25 for about 12 months. It does a fantastic job of cleaning the water surface. It does pop up sometimes usually when my son has cleaned it. sometimes it happens because the floats had not been clicked in far enough and sometimes because he hasn't held it under long enough to release all the trapped air underneath. I too get annoyed with it turning towards the wall so I hold it in one corner of the pond facing the water flow. There are several eye holes underneath which i have attached a piece of string to to tie it at the right angle in the pond.

It’s actually a good skimmer, adjust the jets and when u put it underwater make sure all the air comes out
Hi Andy you’ve got to submerge the whole unit and turn it on it’s sides to allow the air to escape especially from under the 3 paddles float thingys. Put it in one corner and adjust the water jets so they keep it there or turn them off altogether should be ok then , hmmm hungry now and it’s nearly bedtime

Hi Andy place the skimmer in the pond turn it on then hold the unit upside down under the water this will get rid of any air trapped in the skimmer body , I have the same problem with mine and doing this rectifies the bobbing in and out of the water Hope this helps ,

I have had one for about ten years, I have blocked the air holes and tied a length of string to the base so when it floats the mouth is always facing the water flow, we have a few trees that drop stuff in the pond but I find I only need to run it for 1-2 hrs per day.
The water surface looks like a mirror after running it, I love it.

had one for 2 years now, i put a shoe lace on the float to hold it in the corner, i dont use the wire, to be fair, mine has run up a couple of times but its spot on most, a small weight keeps the shoe lace on the wall, im not good at eaplaining things, they work well, but sponges are useless, i bout extra cheap songes off amazon that dont clog too quick, and i run mine 24 hour a day just turn off when feeding, great vid, enjoy your weekend

Mine is the 50 I think. it actually pushes air out the bottom of it which in theory helps keep crap off the bottom as well
and take the filter floss out mate no need for it and will restrict flow 👍👍👍
Turn the skimmer up side down under water to let all the trapped air out of the housing mate.
Just done that. didn't see any air come out so gave it a shake and some bubbles appeared. The 20mins later it did it again...😒🤔

They are good had one 8 years now , the sponge soon gets beyond use but I just use filter floss gets all the dust etc from the water top

I have that exact skimmer and to stop it from making noise, I just had to angle the power cord correctly with the right amount of slack so that it stays in one place, but still has enough slack so that it's completely submerged and working properly. A little hard to describe but if you mess around with the positioning of the power cord you'll get what I mean

I have one similar & put a large pebble inside to weigh it down. Once it’s started collecting after a couple of days it’ll not rise out of the water as much.
Hi matey, I’ve got a oase 50skim in my pond they deffo work and do the job BUT you can’t compare them to a built in skimmer, every time they float usually means they need a clean, filter fleece works great with them the original oase media pads are just to expensive🤦🏻♂️catch you soon matey take care 👍🏻

they work well mate I know you have the hole there but I'd put it down the other end coz the noise and have it a bit of the wall so the air is not right under it and adjust the air jet under it and I use the wire a bit of string and the air jet a get mine a stay were i want it and shake it under the water to get all the air out 🤞 👍👍👍

Apparently they work great if you put a bale of barley on top of the skimmer. Apparently bales of barley cure all known ponds with problems especially when you’ve had enough and want to pave over it. 😉
I sent off for the Oatcakes, ordered 4 packs plus two packets of the mix (not used yet) Nice. If you don't think you will eat them by the use-by date, they freeze well.
How long did they take to be delivered?😉👍 The mix is great. They do need a couple of minutes on each side to cook...

Temp suddenly down to 2c ice cold rain put 2 covers back on the pond say heavy wind and lots more rain on the way over the next few days from Finland and this will sweep across the country so no work on the pond or decking down this week then.
Been working on the idea of a pre-water filter going to see if it’s possible using some form of container and filter wool while not restricting water flow to the main filters.
Its looking like I might be one of the last to remove the covers. Whether other Pond tubers have jumped early or they just live in warmer bits of the country from me and you??🤔🤔👍
It's your filter floss causing the skimmer to pop up. I have the 50 version and same problem, stick to original foam.
the filter media on the 25 is also under the top tray unlike the 50 where it is on top
Ahh. Glad you pointed that out as I couldn't see the filter going in the tray as it had no hole to go over the middle bit of the basket...😉👍👍
Watched this video just to ensure you suffered like I do with my similar skimmer... I cheat and put stones in to weight it down abit... can't trust leaving mine on in case it takes itself out the pond and end up next door like the misses lol

Good skimmers, but if the air outlet is pointing directly under one of the flotation pods, the pod will rise slightly causing the whole of the skimmer to rise; simple solution, adjust the outlet of the output by90 degrees and the problem should be solved.

I had one of those,it was so annoying.
Constantly cleaning the foam all the time as it was constantly floating up.
The only way I got it to stay down was to make a bracket to keep it pushed down.
Send it back mate,they are useless.

I used to have the same problem with it lifting up! it was the tray not quite positioned low enough in skimmer holder
I had one for years.
They stop working when the plastic gate that lets water in gets jammed which is often a plastic misformed part.
I use to anchor mine with a large sea fishing weight tied to the guide cord.
Got fed up with having to clean it.

Filter foams are also a pain to clean in summer when full of algae😞

Just watched your updated development on yr skimmer im glad you have sorted out the problem.you crack me up with yr videos.anyhow just wanna find out about flashing as my koi as had it about a dozen times ive medicated pond got rid of it everytime just wondering what causes it.i lost a koi 2 days ago he was only 2 weird as it started being dozzile and just sitting their even when i grabbed it .it just dived to bottom of pond then just went with the current of my spitter day later happened so quick it was kind of swimming on the sides then just sank to bottom of pond i netted him out the other koi was all around him he was breathing but slowly put him bk then he just died im still baffled as all my other koi is good as gold.wondering if my fresh water shrimp as caused him any problems as i only give them a handfull early in morning then after normal floating food mixed.just wondering if its the koi food that caused him these problems but my other fish no problems any advice u could give me please.
@@barryjohnson1769 ideally if you don't know what the issue is, you could take the fish out and scrape to test if the fish has a parasite using a microscope. You will then know what your treating if you find anything. There are loads of videos on scraping fish or some dealers will do it for you? If none of the other fish seem affected, I believe there is a parasite called costia that can focus on one fush at a time but could make their way through a whole pond as they drop off dead fish to find other hosts. There could could a number of different things wrong with the fish that died?

i am sure the blue filter sponge goes in the basket , well it does on the swimskim 50 , think it maybe your problem with the floating , as when they are blocked they tend to float ,

Try holding it under water upside down to release all the trapped air then turn it the right wsy up while its still under water then let it come to tbe surface,if that makes sense I think you'll find if will be much better

hi try making the white filter mat smaller as that's worked for me not enough water was getting pulled down the side of the mat
I have smaller skimmer and place a small stone in the top section so it never lifts out of the water. But I also cut up the black filter foam fro. Shop to make my own filter insert with white fiber under it too ! ?

ive had both but settled on the 50 due to the fact i'm surrounded by trees the 25 had to be cleaned everyday but good bit of kit mine sits in one corner pulling stuff
I've got one. Block up the hole in the blue plastic tab thing. No need for the air tbh. I also put the sponge in the basket instead of under it.
Also, I fix mine to the corner of the pond. Still clears the surface just fine.

I have this skimmer BUT i put filter floss on top and the crap it collected i have to change it every day. But now using some reusable filter loss.
My own dose the same I had it about 6 months now . I did the same just run at night , but the it's loudness off the pump with it floating out off the water. every morning found it like that . So after a few complaint by next door. I just now run it a few hours when am there . Wish I just put a shimmer in when I constructed the pond . Pain in the ? I found it.

Had one of them, binned it after a couple of weeks as it was crap, managed to acquire a 2nd hand Aquosis SK1 Skimmer which is perfect.
Did you notice a increase in water clarity ?
@@Simonsimps Yes as the Aquosis actually did what it was supposed to do. The Aquosis SK1 although advertised on Absolute Koi is no longer manufactured so did take a while to hunt down a 2nd hand one.

So I am just about to install a kockney koi skimmer box on my pond just wondering how best to install it. The skimmer box is around 1 inch above the main water level on my pond. well I hope it is the pond seems to be level know. So what advise would you give about fitting a skimmer ? the skimmer seems to be a 1/4 above what will be the water level. I in vision the water level of the pond will be about 1 inch below the top of the sleepers. Above that will be a capping piece of wood which is about 50mm in thickness.
Hiya, Unfotunately I dont have any experience with fitting skimmers to new builds. As you can see I didn't fit one myself but wished I had as it would have been easier than having a floating skimmer in the pond. If you want to try a guy called Andy at Derby Koi youtube channel, he completed his pond with skimmer build, so may have created a video on how he did it? forgot to ask could you look at the pump and see if it has a model number on the actual pump as i threw it away when it burnt out but want to buy a new pump as kept the casing. many thanks if you could Andy Duffy

What I cannot understand in the PH TEST is: Low Range 6.0-7.6 but High Range is: 7.4-8.8
So how can 7.6 be listed in the Low Range.

Used to have a floating skimmer (not oase) I teathered it to a corner with fishing line. Also to help stop it popping up turn it upsidedown completely underwater, they get air trapped inside. They do pop up from time to time. my fish also used to tip mine up occasionally on the hunt for food it may have collected
Yes I've seen the fish pushing it from the base. Maybe they aren't helping with that.. 😯🤨
I have a Velda skimmer and it takes a lot of crud out of the pond , mine sits in a corner and runs all the time. it will float around pond if I allow it. Oat cake looks great Try putting a decent size stone in to skimmer🙏🐟🐟🐟🙏

Its the old product game...sell a product online and get staff to buy it then write a great review that's why I only read 2* and 3* reviews. Same with video reviews you have check lots out before you buy keep it 3 weeks and then send it back you have 28 days to return an item.

Because most people would cut the plug off and wire them direct into a switch box

Looks like a load of junk. People saying put stones in etc. Why should you? For the price they should work out of the box and not need tweaking.

After the long winter another water test and everything is fine the water is clean but I have to find a way of the water having a green shade due to the thin amount of wall algae which seems the same all year round at the same time I don’t want to remove this in case it upsets the balance of my pond. ruclips.net/video/-drLxtLUtOE/видео.html

Hey mate. Watched that vid again. The thing is that I did fill the hole with some sponge to stop the air or reduce it. However I want the air supply to the pond from the unit so removed the sponge again. I see what you mean, that there is no specific time when the air makes it raise out of the water. Very random... I'm trying some small stones in the unit to try to hold it down? I seems to do a great job when it working if I can just keep it in the water while blowing air into the pond?? 🤔😒🤞

Me mum had one of these and all it does is suck its self to the wall and skims nothing.She also stuck blue tack over the hole to stop the bubbles as that seemed to make it so debris went away from the skimmer.
Wow I literally just posted a video on this skimmer a week ago an it does a hell of a job mate check it out on my channel it’s gets loads every day out
Hi, yes saw your vid. Good stuff mate.😉👍. A lot of people are saying the blue filter goes in the basket, but it not got a hole in it so I presumed as you have that it goes under the basket... Mine keep running itself dry and trying a number of suggestions to stop this.. 🤔🤔
