My dad use to drive one of these but his was a short bed black and Grey color combo it was such a reliable 👌 and beautiful truck love these body styles nice pickup!
@@RustyDuckGarage no there's not & what was so cool about those generation trucks back in the day when they were new is they didn't have any recalls on them unlike on a lot of the new vehicles nowadays.
@@RustyDuckGarage also what else I don't see many of out on the roads anymore nowadays are cabover semi trucks. I've always liked them because they were easier to turn around corners & park in than conventional cab semi trucks.
I have a 78 gmc in shamrock green with same patina. Only thing original is the body. I've have a full new chassis tubed with a 427 TT from Nelson racing. Still running steel wheels and bench seat. When it's sitting the only thing noticeable is the 29x15x15 mickeys in the back
i live in oregon and u are right about rust free i got lots of this body type rust free . one time a place had me haul off a bunch of rigs off there property so they can sell the ranch . i got a 79 chevy short box full option cheyenne in mint condition 400 sb 400 turbo . then i got a 79 2 wheel with a perfect body on it but engine needs work they put a 68 442 350 in it to replace the diesel but it has cadillac suspension on it from factory it was in the option sheet and it sat lower the a normal stock truck by 3 inches but it all factory then 2 first gen camaros and 2 second gen camaros all were parked in a shop with 2 stroke 454 with heavy duty 400 turbos a fresh 4 bolt 327 never been fired bunch of 350 4 bolt they all looked good then 15 other rigs out side . boy was it a wet dream come true all for free . i also know there is a lot of cheap rigs 100 to 300 most are good condition . like a 65 chevy pu with only rust in the back spot of the fenders were they all ways rust at even has the 283 in it and i bet i can get it running , for a 100 bucks .my next project is a 79 z28 rs t top with full spoiler kit from factory have 2 others hard top z28 for parts car but all 3 are good clean cars that i got for free but i can make the t top with a perfect body no dings 2 cars still have factory paint on them the other hard top has new custom interior then i got the stroke 454 for free so far i have nothing in it but the left over parts will pay for the rest of it .

@@halljam70 Right! I could not find any good detailed videos. I will video cutting my C10 down. The frame part should be pretty straight forward. Hopefully when I cut the bedsides down the results will be good. I have done one other and came out very nice.

My 79 Big 10 Cheyeene doesnt have that extra spring pack but the spring perches are set back in the farthes set of holes and theres more springs than my 86 half ton, i found that out when i went to swap rear ends and the springs didnt line up with the perchs

i just love living in oregon i get these for free all the time rust free i got last years a 79 chevy short box 4x4 cheyenne with under 35,000 miles on it full option truck 400 sbc heavy duty 400 turbo in mint condition for free with a bunch of other rigs from a ranch they needed all the rigs off the ranch so they could put up for sell big ranch even got a 67 rs ss 427 yenko that was being built with a 68 ss 396 car 2 79 z28s all were rust free in a shop and 15 pu's out side just had to have it all gone in 30 days loading all the engines and parts out of the shop took the longest i have a 79 long box rust free really nice body has cadillac suspension from factory was a diesel but long time ago i pulled it and put a 68 442 350 in it traded it off then got it back 2 years ago for free with a knock in the engine i think i put the engine in it 20 years ago blue with silver and i have a 78 black and silver sitting doing nothing with them i am building a 68 pu 2 wheel drive hot rod only have 300 in it with a stroked 454 tunnel ram if u can get ur hands on a motor home with the 454 in it grab it they are ho crate engines in them 450 hp at 485 torque they put these engine in them for passing power i got 3 so far for free the last one had 6000 miles on it sold the motor home 2000 bucks plus all the parts to put it in with a electric twin pusher fan 4 row radiator coolers for oil power streering and trans with all the lines tricks of the trade to save money on a build i looked up the crate engine that matched it and just the long block is 8000 bucks so it saved about 12000 if u count the sepentine belt set up with everything for it to run easy the 68 i am counting the 2000 i made off the motor home so i have 2300 in it but 2000 was free so i say 300 in it allmost got the interior dun just needs final paint went through everything frame up restored but thinking on putting drop spindiles on it with disc breaks and i need wheels and tires do have a set of rally wheel off a 79 4x4 pu 10 inch rims

Did you have to trim your lower control arms at all when you did the 2in drop spindles and 2in springs ? I’ve seen an issue where with 15x8 wheels will rub on the lower control arm. I want to redo my lowered c10. Was previously lowered by someone else and definitely needs to be redone! Love the video man can’t wait to see what more you got for er
Did you do the c notch in the rear? I’m doing the flip kit on my 86 but wanted to know how it rides without the notch. I’d like to not do it. Thanks for the video.
That's good to hear. I'm doing a 3/5 flip on my 78heavy half and can't C notch as Australian laws would make it hard for me to pass inspection to register it
Probably not. clean your truck up advertise and sell it and buy good used short bed. Or fix up your long bed. There is a lot you can do to make it look good.

Can ask the same questions about lifting a truck ? Why ruin ball joint angles on ifs and cv axle angles. and or have Crazy axle angles without spending a lot of money on a proper lift kit like bds? I have a lifted truck and my lowered c10. My truck is used for what you would Use a truck for. Then my c10 is my fun truck. It’s something that puts a smile to my face and makes people stare and wave. It’s personality and what the owner wants to do lol. The functionality of lowered is having fun. Same thing as lifted trucks

No. It is a lot of work and long beds are cool. But if really want to. Make sure you are ready for this big project.
What size tires you running?
225/70R15 on the front and a 275/60R15 on the rear. 15x8 wheels

No trimming and no rubbing. Thank you
I used 2.5 inch spindles and had to get a spacer. They fit but the gap was paper thin.

I did not. As long as you trim the bump stops the ride is nearly the same as stock. When I shorten it with the bed off I will c notch it then.

In my opinion, on those generation Chevy & GMC fullsize pickups, the long beds look better.
I do like the long beds. But, I really like the short beds. And more room in the garage!

Probably not. clean your truck up advertise and sell it and buy good used short bed. Or fix up your long bed. There is a lot you can do to make it look good.
