    I’ve found that if you have the box available tack up the splice then put box on to ensure the cab to box gap is perfect and all the cross braces sit on the frame. Then take it back off and buzz it up. 👌

    I’m looking at a c-20 that has the swb conversion on it. It has been converted from 8 to 5 lug. Is there any reason I should avoid buying a truck like this? I’ve owned c-10s don’t know much about the c-20s

    • @RustyDuckGarage
      @RustyDuckGarage  Год назад

      It all depends on the quality of work. 8 lug to 5 lug is bolt on parts. Check the frame closely to see how they welded and supported the frame.

    Would this work on a 72 c20?

    • @RustyDuckGarage

      Yes. But is cut under the cab. Requires a lot of work.

  • @joebrock9784
    @joebrock9784 2 года назад +1

    Why not cut it ahead under the cab and load it back together that we'd never see it and you wouldn't never see it if anybody looked under the truck that I've seen a lot of guys do that that way if you take it to show you'll never know that it was well done

    • @RustyDuckGarage
      @RustyDuckGarage  2 года назад +2

      Joe. The 67-72 trucks are cut under the cab. Normally the 73-87 trucks are cut where I cut this one. The outside of my frame is smooth like factory. Inside the frame you can see the reinforcement but with brake line, fuel lines, ebrake cables it is hardly noticeable.

    As a welder fabricator and current body shop owner. That is not the proper way to use that cut off wheel. ALWAYS make it pull away from you not pushing towards you. I have scare to prove it.... JUST a FYI.... keep it safe

    Z cut is unnecessary look at an old dealership service manual from that year they cut them straight when sectioning looks good tho

    • @RustyDuckGarage
      @RustyDuckGarage  2 года назад +1

      Well I tend to agree. However I thought the z cut may be just a little stronger. Most class 8 truck frames are also cut straight.

    • @tylertrimsale1259
      @tylertrimsale1259 2 года назад

      @@RustyDuckGarage fair enough. it probably is a little stronger marginally though at best. Straight cut with a brace across inner frame where sectioned is the way I’d have done it. Many ways to skin a cat though haha no hate, cool project.

    • @RustyDuckGarage
