Years ago people were scared to buy a long bed to short bed conversion. Now, it’s no big deal. With knowledgeable videos like this it’s easy to see if it was done right!
I like the idea of the modified wheel openings. It's great to see a young person designing, and engineering new ideas. Nice work. This will be one cool truck.
How to shorten a longbox the right way... First, step cut the frame. Then, put the cut frame in the trash. Finally, build frame from scratch 👌 got it... fricken genius mate.
@@ag_trucks for those simple rectangular strips of metal that you used on the underside of the front of the hood, I would use a piece of wood aligned with the mark to zip across the cut in literally two seconds. Is your plasma cutter inverter with pilot arc? The edge of the cut on sheet metal should be clean and slag free. Unless your air is wet…
@@ag_trucks I’m not trying to troll you; I just wondered if you were aware of the latest tech. I have a Lincoln Power Mig 140 that I can barely carry around when I need to. It’s a great welder that cost me $800, but I have a welder that weighs 13lbs, has a smoother arc, and cost me $101 brand new. I thought maybe your plasma cutter might be an old Snap-on or something if it was expensive and doesn’t cut sheet metal clean
Hey there young fella you could have just measured forward one foot remarked your holes cut everything off at the rear then weld flat plate to box it in. More cost efficient then you could have also C notched it then gone with air ride suspension that would hold up a lot of horse power doing it to my 67 also coil spring set up but will be going air ride though.
We cut frames down all the time..c10 to diesel trucks. Even your step method is weak without reinforcement…I’m not talking about boxing it either. The upmost important step is to make certain your wheelbase is what you need and both sides match. Use factory matching holes and measure diagonal. C10s are easy..measure 10 times and cut once. I slide the frame inside itself a foot…clamp it, sink 2) 3/4 bolts on each side, lock it down and stick weld it with 7018. LWB 127” wheelbase SWB 115”…show quality? No. Strong? Stronger than a original swb frame.
It would have worked, however, I decided to go a different route in terms of the build. Those c10 chassis have a lot of flex and I am planning to make a lot of power so with a new frame I'll be able to make it as stiff as I want. And I also want to integrate a roll cage with the frame.
Its horrifying how many people cut frames without a step. A vertical butt joint is not one of two ways to do this, it's just the wrong way. The only thing I'd change in your steps is to radius the 90° angles on frame faces. Your way is perfectly fine but in my head a radius is less likely to start a crack
Agree 100% on the radius, just seeing that 90 degree corner makes me cringe a little... not nearly as much as when i see the straight up and down cut though
@@defendermodsandtravels I dont need to see anything. A single vertical joint is fine for a show truck trailer queen that's never going to be driven anywhere besides behind a velvet rope. It's the easier route for the run if the mill DIYer but anyone who knows structural strength will opt for the added steps.
@@defendermodsandtravels would it matter? You wouldn't believe me if I was. You dont need to be an engineer to see the strength differences. Maybe I'm a 30 master welder. That wouldn't matter either because you saw a video of some guy cut the frame and bolt a plate on the back. 👍 Let's put it this way. Ok maybe a single cut is safe but why settle for "just good enough"?

You’re right! It looks gorgeous just like that! These gems are the best
Love the lo-fi approach
Respect to you for getting stuck in. Will be magnificent when she's done
Thank you David! Can't wait te see it all finished up!

man thats a nice 68 C10!
Thank you, I appreciate it man! The truck has come a long ways from where it began
@@ag_trucks for sure but don't all our projects we have though!

You’re doing an awesome job! Did anyone tell you that you can get an awesome plasma cutter for $300?
Appreciate it! I have a plasma cutter, but I didn't get it for $300 unfortunately😂
@@ag_trucks why do you use the grinders for cutting, is your plasma cutter old tech?
It just makes a cleaner cut since I have to join some of those pieces back together

You are absolutely right! If I had continued with that frame I would have bolted a plate as well. Thanks for the advice and for watching!🤙
So did this method not work? I’m confused at why you started from scratch. It looked like it was going to be a great frame and strong. Fill me in.

Have not seen that stepped method! Glad I did and will be doing the same to mine.
Awesome! Thanks for watching🤘
Anyone who just cuts the frame at 90° and just butts the joints without a step is asking for disaster. It's so weak and brittle.
I'm lost you shortened the frame then changed your mind and built a frame?
Exactly
Like your build, will be exciting to follow
Thank you👍 working on some more content!
I am really looking forward to this!
I can see it already, Its going to be Low and raked in front, my stance. Good Job !
Awesome trucks!
Thank you!
Nice project. What state are you located.
Thanks! I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada
Awesome video man! I will actually be getting a 68 c10 tomorrow that’s white just like yours so I’m really looking forward to following your build.
Awesome! Thanks for watching👍
How wide is the track on the crown Vic compared to the C10?
I believe the track was 63 1/2 inch with stock wheels
Every video I come to on this subject there is some "person" fucking it up or giving up at the end.
Are you selling the chopped down frame then?
Yes, will be selling it
@@ag_trucks i didn't catch... what area of the country you're in
@@shawnwimberly9294 I'm in NS, Canada
Awesome! Keep the vids coming! What are you thinking for the motor?
Thanks! Working on the next video haha I'm gonna be building a 6.0 lq4 for a turbo setup!
Good job!
Thanks!!👍
I’m new here. Great channel. Where are you based? Do you take clients?
Thank you! I am in Nova Scotia. I don't take clients, I just work on my own vehicles

Gonna be sick🤙🏼
Don’t just put a slot in the rivets, put a cross in them, they will come off with little effort then….
what are those wheels your gonna be using?
Those were just the crown vic wheels. I'm not gonna use those. I'm not 100% sure what wheels I'll get but I'm thinking a nascar style rim
Do u have a number where I can you to ask a question
What city/state are you in?
I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada
Glad I live in the north, those trailing arms scare me
Yes those are unfixable garbage
Why???🙈Longbed is soooo much cooler,»save the longbeds🤘
Haha, now it's shorter than a short wheelbase 😂
