That tiny tiny tiny one in the foreground! Wow. That was amazing. And the last two mushrooms you found on the tree trunk at the end. I felt like they were grand parents.
I was listening to waveform podcast and they said that they love your channel. And I was like, oh hey! I love her channel too. that is so cool that they gave you a shout out.
Brilliant capture of the baby shroom love your last shot of the shrooms on the rotting tree trunk. I always say don't but away the camera until you are back in the car you never know what you may catch at the end of your photowalk. Thanks for another awe-inspiring video 😊
I've just discovered your channel and I don't often find photography videos on youtube to be that exciting, however you have such a radiant and natural performer vibe that I cannot help but be addicted to your videos!
The way you look for the shot is so inspirational and really opened your eyes to the way I am missing out on so many opportunities. Thank you for sharing.
I see you purchased a Godox flash, I have that very one. I hope you and your Godox friend have many happy days together. I don't shoot mushrooms though I must confess I am now beginning to pay attention to them. I shoot mostly in forests, coastal rain forests here in BC. My favourite lighting is the hard cloudless sun sky that most photographer's dislike. I love the almost rembrandt lighting it creates with the trees. And I noticed that lighting hitting the trees behind you when you started your talk about the weather. Had I been in that area at that time, I would have been searching for well lit trees with defined shadows. I always look forward to your videos - good work both the videos and the photography.
The only other photographer I have seen who comes close to you in sheer enthusiasm for the art is Mads Peter Iversen, and I'd say you have a handy lead.
Hello Courtney, I have a technical question for you, but first I wanted to thank you for your videos and also express my appreciation for the way you share your experiences. I really admire your approachable personality and other qualities you bring to your work. Coming from an analog photography background, where everything must be meticulously planned before capturing the image, I’m accustomed to the darkroom process, where manipulating the exposure of the negative on the paper is critical to achieving a result that’s hopefully perfect in terms of lights, shadows, and colors when printing in wet conditions. We don’t have the luxury, due to cost considerations, of photographing the same subject 10, 20, or more times and then exposing a stack of negatives to achieve the desired outcome. Therefore, planning is essential, including light metering, correct ISO usage, and so on. Everything is about imagination and previsualization. So, when I look at your final images, I notice that you’ve taken several shots of the same scene to achieve the desired result. I also imagine that you have a substantial amount of digital post-production work afterward. My specific question is: Why does the new trend in digital photography, since its inception, seem to overlook the preparation and visualization of an image before it’s executed, thereby avoiding so much post-production work that might distance the final image from the subject’s reality? Wouldn’t it be better to focus more on observation and metering before capturing the shot? Thank you for sharing your videos; they’re very interesting.
I have followed you for a while now and love your different fun style. More importantly your images are great and your ideas and chat is most helpful. I am also into Macro and just love finding it. Being in the woodland is so relaxing and give me a feeling of mindfulness. keep them coming Courtney. Thank you.
As usual Courtney it is fun to see you conjure up subjects! It would have been interesting to see your original vision for the small mushroom with the large one just a little more in focus. Now I say that from the comfort of my house not knowing if you could get that shot. Keep bringing your sense of wonder in the forest to RUclips.
Another great video from you with great inspiration. I have just come back from a trip to the woodlands here in southern part of Norway. There was some fugl, but I think the best is yet to come in september and october. Can't wait to get out again! Thanks Courtney!! Alt the best from Norway!
I don't often comment on videos but I just had to say that I absolutely LOVE watching your videos. I "subscribed" long ago and have enjoyed watching each and every one of them. Thank you so much for sharing your photographic journey. I'm looking forward, as usual, to what comes next! PS. As I was watching the very end of this video, the "old fungi" that you photographed nearly brought me to tears... there is something about it (don't think that this is weird, please) that reminds me of my 90+ year old parents who recently passed away. My title for it would be "Grandma and Grandpa" but then, that's just the emotion that I bring to your photo, it's not what you might get from it.
I'm sorry to hear of your parents passing, my thoughts are with you. I think it's lovely we can all take something different from a photograph, and I'm glad you were able to see something that felt personal to you. Thank you very much for watching for so long, I appreciate it a lot :)
Hello! Thanks for some great tips! I love the two purpley mushrooms at 7:22 ish and they remind me of a lovely elderly couple embracing each other. I have been trying to learn the art of noticing too.. how to take slowly and see what’s just under our noses.
Great video. I found a whole bunch of mushrooms last week in the woods here in Vermont. I was having so much fun taking pictures of them, so I can relate to your joy.
Beautiful pictures and lovely mushrooms - especially the bay boletes. The mushrooms from the last picture most likely are some kind of a shield mushroom. Maybe deer shield or similar. PS: It would be great to learn that dance :))
Thanks for the inspiration Victoria..I shoot a lot of Floral and just this morning my eye caught some mushrooms and I had to grab a shot...and honestly was one of my favorites from the morning!
Courtney, you often refer to 'stacking ' as a newbie I have no clue to what this is or how it works. Can I not just take a single photo or is this a different type of photography you are referring to. Please could you make a video of how you achieve this fabulous photos and describing stacking. Kind regards Alan
Hi Alan! I do have a video on my channel called 'How and why I focus bracket my images' that you may find useful. But essentially, when you photograph smaller subjects like this with a macro lens, your depth of field is significantly reduced. In order to get a whole subject in focus, rather than just a part of it, you can try and use narrow apertures of f16-f22 to get more in focus in one singular image, or you can focus bracket. Focus bracketing is taking multiple images at different focal points and then 'stacking' them together in post processing to create one final image. Many macro photographers will choose to focus bracket so wider apertures can be used, bringing less detail and distractions into the background of the image. I hope that helps and I'll happily talk about this more in a future video :)
@@CourtneyVictoria thank you so much for taking the time to explain this. You have perfectly and clearly explained this and now I grasp the concept behind bracketing. Take care Courtney.
It's not the length of the video what matters but the story and the content. And that was spot on. Some beautiful photos too. Thanks for sharing it Courtney. I was just thinking about visiting my local forest to see what's happening out there. Your video makes me want to go right now. 🙂
On watching the video, I was amazed to watch my version of the Fungi Dance. How did you learn my version. I am surprised to see that my version has made itself all the way to Wales
Surely the one tool you would bring to the forest to take pictures of Fungi would be your camera? 😁😁😉😉 Sorry Courtney! There's always one, and it's usually me! 😁😁
Hi nice post. Am thinking of purchasing second hand d850 to focus bracket orchids and other wildflowers. How have u found FB feature on the d850? I would pair it with my nikkor 105mm f2.8 macro lens. Thx
Love the vid (even if it is short... lol) I was wondering what interval you used between the shots, some say 1 some say higher and wondered what you used
I mostly use the SD slot, but I do have a QXD card that goes in sometimes for backup/overflow. They are not cheap cards to buy though ha which is why I have one and one only.
You haven’t found me yet, I’m a fun guy…….ok I will see myself out now haha. Love the videos and the compositions! Edit: loved the small mushroom pic with the larger one in the background. The last image I just thought of grandpa and grandma as they are older mushrooms that seem to have cuddled together.
Ha, that would be impressive! No, the video clips in the beginning were shot a few days before, and I apparently trimmed my nails in between haha. It always baffles me how these details are noticed! Good observation skills.

Foil emergency blankets are cheap, light and handy to keep in your bag - tougher than kitchen foil and you can sit on them as well!
That's a great option! I had never thought of using one and it certainly would last longer than a bit of kitchen foil ha.

Your images are really amazing!!
I didn't think I would find much passion in macro photography and how wrong I was ha! Thank you!

Zero interest in Mushrooms but enjoy the Vids & esp. D850

Your lovely nails at 0:10 in vanished by 3:53 in. What happened? Did you find a manicurist in the forest? 😧
