I don't know what is more amazing - Bannister breaking the 4 min mile or th fact that the WR now stands at 3:43.

That's true Sir , but Bannister was a pure amateur and he ran on a cinder track , his training was not as hard as at present , I believe he did not any care about his alimentation ...there is no point to compare these two different period of time , but Bannister could run in less than 3'55'' in proper condition and well trained. Amazingly that El Guerrouj could run in 3'43'' ! ! !

20 years ago in the Army I set out to break the 4 minute mile. A giant goal for a 5'6" weightlifter serving in a Special Operations unit. I was very fast as a kid and I pushed myself to a 4:03. I began having health issues from over training and ordered by the doctors and the Army to stop my pursuit of the 4:00 barrier. That year at the unit Christmas party I received a plaque from my unit: World Fastest Midget! I display it proudly!

@Robert Price I'm also making an attempt to break the 4 minute mile. Right now my pr is 5:26 but in the future, mark my words, in your honor for fighting in the army and in Roger Bannister's honor, I shall break the 4 minute mile, and keep going at it until I break it. In your honor sir Robert Price. Anyone who sees this comment, put some respect on this guys NAME! HE DESERVES IT!

I ran a mile in a little less than six minutes before. That's fast enough.

I Was also able to complete the one mile in just under 4:00, with a fair tailwind of course! and of course I was winded!

the mile you run in circles, in circles there are headwinds and tailwinds therefor there is no advantage or disadvantage. also i seriously doubt you ran a sub 4:00 minute mile

      why even go there...
plus, there is still something to be said, about a specific event in a track context.

There is of course no proof, or even evidence, as Dumpster's silence for the last year demonstrates. He belongs to, and appeals to, that group of people who think that all you have to do is to assert some kind of racist behavior, and no further evidence is needed.

I'm almost 100% sure that Roger Banister was the first person to ever run under a 4 minute mile, including all humans that lived before.
