I’m so thankful I stayed at home and raised my daughter I did do without lots but not really, but my daughter turned out to love God and has morals and values. That’s more important than anything. And he’s is so right!

This cleric is absolutely right. All people are created equal in the eyes of God, but not all religions or cultures are equal. I call for this all the time. We in the West must repent because we have rejected God and accepted all the revolutions since the sexual revolution. We must return to the God of our forefathers. We are on the verge of judgement. We may not escape judgement, but we may save our souls. The West thought that they created all this wonderful civilization, but we didn't. God blessed us when we followed Him and picked up the cross of Christ. Return to God. He will forgive us. Seek Him and He will reveal Himself to you.

One of the most haunting experiences I have ever had as a man took place on an early summer day in Alaska. My family and I were sea kayaking with humpback whales in the Icy Strait and we stopped on the shore of Chichagof Island for lunch. Our guide asked us if we wanted to go for a hike into the interior of the island, to a clearing where grizzlies were known to feed. We were all over that invitation. After a twenty minute walk through a spruce forest, we came into what appeared to be a broad, open meadow about four hundred yards across. Being midday, and hot, there were no bears to be seen. "They're sleeping now, through the afternoon. They'll be back tonight," he said. "C'mere - I want to show you something."
The meadow was actually more of a bog, a low-lying jungle of brushy groundcover about two feet high, barely supported underneath by another foot of soaked moss and peat. A very difficult place to walk. Our guide led us to a trail of what seemed to be massive footprints, with a stride of about two feet between them, pressed down into the bog and making a path through it. "It's a marked trail," he said. A path created by the footprints of the bears. "This one is probably centuries old. For as long as the bears have been on this island, they've taken this path. The cubs follow their elders, putting their feet exactly where the older bears walk. That's how they learn to cross this place."
I began to walk in the marked trail, stepping into the firm, deep-worn places where bears had walked for centuries. I'm not sure how to describe the experience, but for some reason the word holy comes to mind. An ancient and fearful path through a wild and untamed place. I was following a proven way, laid down by those much stronger and far more prepared for this place than me. And though I knew I did not belong there, I was haunted by it, could have followed that path for a long, long time. It awakened some deep, ancient yearning in me.
This is a book about what it looks like to become a man, and - far more to our need - how to become a man. There is no more hazardous undertaking, this business of "becoming a man," full of dangers, counterfeits, and disasters. It is the Great Trial of every man's life, played out over time, and every male young and old finds himself in this journey. Though there are few who find their way through. This has been happening for a long time. see C S Lewis who wrote from the 1940s onward at Oxford University and also from Cambridge where the academics play with ideas with no sense of responsibility. You can listen to his works on line nowadays or read the books. He was very Anglican in his outlook and could back up his views from his own knowledge of the past gained as a famous professor at Oxford

I don't agree that the situation is quite as bad as Calvin makes out. In the UK the people have not been going to church on a regular basis for a very long time. Many of our more recent immigrants are Christians and many others are not Muslims. Muslims are also having far fewer children in this country and fewer in their own countries than they did only one or two generations ago. Many of the Muslims that are coming to the UK are mainly male, and the last I looked males can't have children.
My family are all baptised Christians even though my mother is ethically Jewish. However, they only go to church for weddings and funerals as is very much the English custom and it has been this way for a very long time. Many British people who claim to be atheists aren't really, they just prefer not to get into the conversation, prefer not to think about it, or are confusing the word with agnostic.
IMO the number of true committed atheists is much smaller than some prefer to believe. I believe this is because to admit that there are so few actual atheists is to admit what an utter failure they have been especially Anglican and Roman Catholic Ministers. I find that virtually everyone has a spiritual side desperately wanting to be expressed, but when they listen to ministers endlessly quoting scripture that they obviously don't understand or fully believe themselves they soon give up and go somewhere else.
My advice is this. You have to build your house on foundations of stone, not shifting sands. The first thing that needs to be established in a person's mind is this. In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth. If you can't provide a reason to believe that this is even possible then you are wasting much of your time with the rest of the entire book. Forget the Darwinistic rubbish and get down to what science can actually prove which is so close to NOTHING it may as well be nothing in this context. Remember you don't have to prove that God did create our perceived reality, you only have to prove that it is possible. If you can do this, you will soon find that you are pushing on an open door instead of a firmly shut one.

The ratio of remnant bible based churches that teach uncompromized salvation and holiness vs awful lukewarm or even dead ones is not a great ratio in America. Just because Texas has the rep for being "bible belt" doesn't mean it's perfect. God sees "precisely" which churches fall into the 7 churches in Revelation. ALL must humble themselves, pray, fast and ask Jesus to give a critique of where they're at in their walk.
Who's to say what religion is the correct one? When you're taught a certain one how are you supposed to know?

Most of those books were written many decades, even hundreds of years after the events and were 'mistakenly found' in Naghamadi in the 1940's. They are interesting, especially Enoch, but they're not accepted as legitimate cannon. Many of them are considered new age, especially the Gospel of Thomas. I forget the name of the religious sect suspected of writing them.

You are inverting the verdict of history. If progress is facilitating human flourishing and public virtue, then Christianity IS progress.
Protestantism created the modern libertarian west. We (Protestants) implemented religious freedom, political freedom, academic freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of the press FIRST, and thus caused the academic, scientific, technological, and material progress that followed; and most of the rest of the world hasn't caught up with it yet. John 8:32 "You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
As far as human flourishing is concerned, clearly and obviously the path that has actually been tried and failed is building a society on the rejection of God. From the Jacobin Reign of Terror in the French Revolution through the Soviet Union, the Third Reich, communist China, Pol Pot; the result is invariably an Orwellian hell hole; despotic, impoverished, obtuse in administration, backward in science, technology, and scholarship; a national enemy of truth at all levels and in all disciplines (you exclude honesty as a fundamental value and wonder why your communication and information infrastructure falls apart). Science is a fruit of Christianity, not a replacement for Christianity. Whatever you place in the "religion" slot functions as a religion. There is nothing in science that would keep a scientist from doing evil.
