Installing an electric LED mirror in a bathroom using a feed picked up from the lighting circuit in the attic then through a fused connection unit ensuring that we are working in the prescribed bathroom zones.

Like how you’re always asking questions to Adam/ talking about regs both of you... keeps my memory jogged too
He is a great teacher Jake. I’m glad it helps you too 👍🏻😁
I like to keep him on his toes, I'm preparing him for when he is on his own and has nobody to ask, I am also a college teacher so I use a similar method when I'm teaching my college students.
Thanks for watching!
Keep up the great content lads, love the banter never fails to make me laugh
Glad you enjoyed it Rob, thanks for watching
Hi Adam. Thanks for the name check in the previous video. Keep them coming.
My pleasure mate, glad you are enjoying the videos 👍🏻😁
Nice job.
Thanks 😀😀😀🙌🙌🙌👍👍👍⚡️⚡️⚡️
Hey love watching your videos guys (best electrical ones on RUclips), really entertaining with lots of useful info. Have to say though, that you're pretty over the top with BS1362 fuses. The calc P=IV in this instance is generally used to avoid overload ie fixed load taking out the fuse, so the calc which gave 0.16A means that as long as that BS1362 is above 0.16A (Ib
Hey Jon! Thanks for watching and commenting, some great points mentioned there 👍🏻😁 and thanks for your kind words
cheers for your comment John, I agree that generally a 3 Amp would be used mostly and there wouldn't be anything wrong with it, thanks for watching!
Surely there’s at least a 15mm gap at rear of the mirror to allow for the FCU , I take it the mirror just hooks over the mounting screws??
At least I see some sort of flexi cable here! 🤣
We need you to send us some Joey lol
hahaha
Nice one fellas 👍 would it be ok to fit a 3amp fuse instead of the 1amp 🤔 keep up the vids 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Glad you like the vids mate, plenty more to come :)
Thank you for your comment King, you should replace or fit a fuse with the next size fuse available higher than the rated current, in this case it would be a 1 Amp fuse, many Electricians will fit a 3 Amp fuse as 1 Amps aren't readily available, if you choose to do that then it's your choice.
Thanks for watching!
@@DoctorElectricRUclips cheers for the reply mate 👍 as you can probably tell I’m a non sparks , but I’m not a diy dave either😂😂 thanks for the info as I always thought that fuses were 3amp 5amp and 13amp 😂 learn something every day 👍 🙌🏻 nice one
Watched again fellas 👌👍 I’m getting my mirror ready for the sparks to connect up I’ve done the plaster board back box bit with multi tool got an unswitched fcu for behind mirror and a switched fcu for up in loft easily accessible, just a question when he connects up wil he go of lighting circuit (nearest jb or pendant for live feed) or will it come of a socket? only reason I ask is the nearest socket will be a pain to get to rather than lighting.dont worry I’m not doing a diy dave and connecting it up myself I literally am getting a sparks in 👍 I just want to make life easier and do any chiselling out ready if need to go off socket etc cheers 👍👍
On unidentified switches and switch fused connection units you could flick the switch on test with continuity tester or put fuse in and do the same type of continuity tests to identify permanent connection point and load out. Not Voltaire who was a important philosopher but Count Alessandro Volta inventor of the Voltaic pile/chemical battery thereby proving that electricity is not just generated by living things. The SI unit of electric potential (voltage) was given as volt after his discoveries.
Watch professor Jim Al-Khalili’s series on electricity on RUclips give many of your students Dean a fascinating history of electrical and magnetic discoveries.
Loving your work mate upwards and wish you both the best in life and work. Nicest sparks on RUclips.
Why am I called Mathman it’s because I have loved mathematics and used it in my career as a economist/quant since school and university in my research at university when I was a research fellow/Professor and when I worked for the UK government and Bank of England and then in the USA at the IMF in Washington DC. And still using it in high level physics and electrical learning especially in electromagnetic theory, quantum theory and plasma physics.
Wow, what a great comment mate, thank you
That is an amazing story! I am now going to refer to you as professor mathman! Mathman alone doesn’t give you enough credit for those achievements 👍🏻😁
Thanks for your kind words mate and always a pleasure to have you as a loyal prescriber since the start 😁
@@TheAdamEdward it’s no big deal just take the attitude you can learn from anyone young or old, treat people with respect even if they may not be respectful to you. The language of mathematics pervades many diverse subjects trade and non- trade based. Both of you are doing excellent work and the time you take in doing these videos are invaluable to younger apprentices. We definitely want to see greater professionalism, technical ability in this field and root out bad practice that not only undermine the industry but create unsustainable pay structures as electricians race to the bottom, worse still it creates dangerous electrical installations. It happens in many industries and fields. To be great at anything it’s not just the learning and training and experience but is far more related to attitude and whether that desire to do great work comes from within you. That’s what sets apart bad, good and great sparks.
@@mathman0101 well said mate! Truly inspirational 👍🏻😁
Nice bathroom light installation fellas. But should the fused spur be acceptable prior to handling the fitting. But what a really good job from the Boath of you. Keep them real L&H 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Stephen and thanks for watching again 😁👍🏻
Hi Stephen, the FCU is just there to provide isolation in the event of failure until we or another Electrician can come out to replace it, perfectly fine for it to be behind the mirror.
Thanks for watching!
Looking to fit an LED mirror myself like this. Great video. How did you know where to cut the square and miss the noggin?
You can usually tell where the noggins/plaster are by tapping the wall, when it's hollow it's a bit echoey, when there's a noggin or plasterboard there's no echo
Also you can ask Google sums with your voice 😁
When did you change your company name to Doctor Electrical?
😂😂😂😂
Hey. How easy is this with a brick wall? I just got a light up mirror that goes to the mains but I have no mains made to connect in the bathroom
Impossible to say how easy it is, every install is totally different
@@DoctorElectricRUclips thankyou
Who lost the flexi rod.
My money is on Adam.
Yep all my fault David 😂
Yes, he was pushing it up!
12:10 😮😮😮😮 no coaster!
He’s going bareback war rocket
haha
Hi Guys can i fit an Eletric light mirror on a downstairs toilet drill through the wall into next room next to a light switch and use the light switch as a power source !!
It would depend on how the lights are wired, ask an electrician.
Thanks for watching.
Where did you find wattage from ?
Can't remember exactly but we usually get it from the manufacturers instructions 👍
You would think that you would have revised all these zone issues before you started making this video boys. Don’t you think.
Paul, I know the zone rules but I was trying to teach my Apprentice, and also let him discover the answers for himself, I have a positive attitude to my Apprentices
Hi Guys
Hi Steve 😂
Hi Guys
@@TheAdamEdward have you done your design assessment yet? Level 3 - 615?
@@stevespoor6567 not yet mate I am just finishing level 2 at the moment 👍🏻😁 start level 3 in September when academic year re starts
Stupidly long, x650 blah blah numbers numbers numbers confusing confusing confusing! Ip65 yes we’ll done guys you are sparkys!! We are not!….. just show us how to feed a damn wire from the lights to connect a led mirror why is it so difficult?
If you don't know then you shouldn't be watching RUclips videos to find out such a simple electrical task.
Thank you for your feedback, I will forward it to our complaints department who will be in touch shortly 🗑😂😂😂
